Riz zoawd Wizard of Oz DS § Entries:

Near the end of September 2009, Media.Vision released The Wizard of Oz RPG, Beyond the Yellow Brick Road.. Formerly named Riz-Zoawd in Japan. It garnered a lot of attention early, as the story is certainly memorable as is the video. That said, the game has a lot of the same ideas as the other two medians, but has it’s own share of differences as well (Dorothy grows up on a farm).

Wizard of Oz RPG Walkthrough
Watch the scene and read the text as the game opens. You get a chance to name the girl and her pet (Dorothy and Toto).

Some things happen, and Dorothy finds herself in a beautiful field. A big shadow appears – the Wizard of Oz! He tells you that you must be careful with the magical power on the Yellow Brick Road, else you will not survive. He also says you can buy weapons and armor from him, so keep that in mind.

Soon enough, you will gain control of Dorothy for the first time. Notice the big green track ball on the bottom. You will have to get used to running Dorothy around with this. Collect some coins floating in the air along the way, there should be about 3. A bit along and you will see a green monster floating in the air.

This is your first battle. As you see, Dorothy has the ability to go four times in one ‘turn’, so you can split up your attacks if you like. The battle system is the traditional turn-based. The Gummy Ghosts will take off 1-3 damage on you, so I wouldn’t worry about the first few battles. Eventually you see some Flying Pigs, which aren’t much better. However after four or five battles your HP might be whittling down, so use a Potion. By this point, you will be finished with the first area. You then see a King’s Shadow which will allow you to teleport to Yellow Brick Road B. Fight two or three battles until you get to a big central area, with a few forks. Check the object floating in the area to the left – it is a Potion.

To the right, you will see an Airy Scarecrow. He attacks early and often, but still only takes off 2 or 3, so after four Dorothy hits he should be gone. 6 experience for the victory.

Sure enough, after this battle the Scarecrow offers to join you on your journey. You can change his name from Strawman if you like. He sheds some insight regarding the path leading to the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy might be on her way to being sent home. The King’s Shadow then gives you a tutorial on how to switch allies in battle. Dorothy can use all four turns and so can Strawman. Or, you could have Strawman use 3 turns and Dorothy 1 turn (any combination to 4).

As Strawman says, he is strong against the Jelly Fighter enemies, so substitute him in the first battle since you will fight three of them. The next battle along the road will be enemies Dorothy is strongest against though, so just experiment to see who takes off more damage on the various species. Also, if you use both characters both will be defending against the enemy too (conversely, if you only attack with Dorothy she will be the only one who gets hit). Use a Potion if need be, but just continue on to Yellow Brick Road C.

In this third area, you will see a big grey gate in an area with more trees. This is the Venus Gate, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem we can go through the Venus Gate right now. So instead continue along the path to the right, and you’ll get to a more open area with another treasure floating to the left. We are rewarded with another Potion.

Look further. You may want to use a Potion to heal, as a Ferocious Lion is ahead. Of course this Ferocious Lion is actually a coward, so go at him with Dorothy’s attacks in battle for the most damage. The Ferocious Lion will have the strongest attacks you’ve seen so far, around 7 damage. +18 experience is nice. Afterwards, this cowardly Lion joins your party. The King’s Shadow then lets you know that the Lion has a ratio of 2 in battle, meaning he only has two attacks maximum. In general he is stronger than your other allies, but the negative effect is that he only gets to attack twice. Keep in mind you can use all three characters too (Dorothy (1) + Strawman (1) + Lion (2) = 4 total).

Now that you have Lion, run ahead to see two Crabby Crab’s. Lion is strongest against these foes, so bust him out. More Crabs ahead, and then run straight forward for a treasure. This one is a Moonfly Powder. Take the path left of this now for a few more Gummy Ghost enemies, and then the transporter to Yellow Brick Road D.

More Gummy Ghosts on Yellow Brick Road D, but the second enemy is a Chestnutty. This thing takes off 11-12 damage, quite a bit, but you do get 9 EXP for your efforts. Another battle after this against a Crab and friends, and then you get to one of those open, circular spots. Grab the two coins ahead, and then look to your left for a treasure; another Potion.

Unfortunately, you see a huge enemy ahead; the Mad Logger. Per turn, Strawman is going to take off the most damage (12-13. Dorothy does about 10-11, Lion does 16 (but only 8 per turn)). The Mad Logger has a devastating attack though, doing 17 damage the one time he connected on me. A whopping 60 EXP for this victory. Pretty likely that everyone will go up a level after this.

The Tin Man continues to only say Hva (‘What’, in Norwegian :) ). Name him, and he doesn’t seem to mind. He then follows after you name him, joining Dorothy with the other two. Tin Man has a ratio of 3, meaning he can only attack once (and only with Dorothy or Strawman). The game then goes more in depth about affinity, something you have probably learned already. Dorothy is best against Ghost-types. Water-types for Strawman, Shell-types for Lion and plants for Tin Man. As if things could be any easier, there is a symbol near the enemy specifying the above groupings, so memorize them.

Running straight ahead you hit a wall, so take a left. Go forth and burn through some battles, the third of which has a plant enemy for Tin Man to slaughter. One more battle, and you will be at the blue transporter. Head to Yellow Brick Road E. Run along until you get to a bunch of different paths.

There is the Uranus Gate, Saturn Gate, and the Jupiter Gate, which happens to be open. Grab the Treasure first, for a Potion. In the center of this area is a sign with an arrow that is pointing towards that Jupiter Gate, so begin to go through. Fight some more monsters, keep running, and eventually you see the Neptune Gate, along with the big palace.

Oz’s Castle
Inside the Castle of the Wizard of Oz, you will see the floating green King. He praises you for a while but then tells you of others trying to gain magical powers;notably Protea, the Winter Witch. Protea has three daughters; Flora the Spring Witch, Delphi the Summer Witch and Holly the Autumn Witch. are also involved, as they have taken over nearby areas of the Land of Magic, and acting as lords of their realm. First act according to the Wizard of Oz is to infiltrate the Land of Spring, as the Spring witch is the weakest. First, you must steal the Eggs that give power to the barrier.

Anyway, you can do some nice things here, like restore your HP / MP first of all. Then save your progress, as this is your first opportunity to do so.
