Beran
The road to Rhone will be accessed here. Now that you have the Jailor’s key and the Eye of Malroth, go to Beran near the house of healing. Use the key to head north and Stepguard past the damage steps.
Towards the swamp to the west is where the road to Rhone is. Go in that are and use the Eye of Malroth and you’ll see the opening now.
Road to Rhone
First a note. The enemies around here are really tough so the farther in the 20’s in levels that you can get the better. The Metal Babbles are great for gaining levels and drop the Dragon’s Potion (allows you to save anywhere) sometimes. Also, the floors have traps that will make you fall to the floor below which is a hassle needless to say.
Your main targets in here are the Thunder Sword, Armor of Erdrick and the Life Crest. The good news is you can get the Life Crest easy in the Road to Rhone. Walk around the first floor until you fall down (preferably in the southeast corner). Now in this basement area you’ll see a treasure in the southeast. Grab it for a Life Crest. You’ll notice this basement is littered with Horks and each Hork battle will be at high encounter rates. Get out of the basement now.
On the first floor enter the eastmost staircase going up. Go east one screen now. Continue east past the first two paths going south and north, but take the third path going south and then up the stairs.
Go to the very north of this screen, a long ways. Take the path here going east and then up the stairs You’re going to want to go north again in this screen but watch out for the pitfalls. As you get to the northeast you’ll have another staircase leading to a huge room.
Okay this is tricky, go to the southwest part of this room and there is a pit. When you fall down grab the Thunder Sword! This sword is fantastic and casts Firebane in battle.
Last we need to get the Armor of Erdrick. Go to the far east staircase on the first floor and then east in the first room again. Take the third path south (once again) and then you’ll be at the large area with plenty of paths to take. Go to the southeast and you’ll have three paths that you can take. The north one is a Lottery Ticket and the east one leads to the Armor of Erdrick. The Armor of Erdrick should be a bit better than the Armor of Gaia.
Rubiss Charm
Leave Rhone. You aren’t done there but you have the valuable items and all five crests. Now go to Osterfair, sail a little west of the island and then due north. You’ll come to a lone monolith. Maybe you saw this earlier and were confused as to what to do. Well go to the very bottom and now that you have all the crests walk on the white part on the center. Rubiss the Enchanter will speak with you and aid you. He gives you the Charm of Rubiss.
Rhone
Now it’s time to get through Rhone. You need to build a shitload of levels here to be able to compete later on (like, almost to level 30 for the hero) so get started. At the top of the floor are all the ridiculous monsters like Berserk, Flame, Attackbot, Green Dragon and so on. Since this games likes to give you low experience points regardless of the monsters you are fighting, just stay on the first floor and fight around. Kill as many Metal Babbles as you can for 1000 EXP. Good luck with them though.
To continue on past Rhone, you’re going to need to get to where you got the Thunder Sword. Not all the way but it’s close. Anyway, on the first floor, take the rightmost staircase up. Go right a screen and then take the third passage south and up the stairs.
In this room, go north all the way and then east up a few staircases. Now you’ll recognize this area, you went north (and avoided the pitfalls) to get the Thunder Sword. Instead go south and up the stairs, but be careful as there are a fair amount of pitfalls here.
Now you are in a new area. Go east in the first room, and then take the northwest path. Another intersection, go northeast and then east in the following screen. More choices – go northeast, and then northwest when you get the chance. Now go north another screen and east a few more and you’re out of the Rhone Cave! You’re in a snowy area.
Shrine of Rhone
Certainly you are hurting but make your way east a little and north. Past the bridge and you’ll see a Monolith, this is the Shrine of Rhone. You can take a warp back to the entrance of Rhone Cave / Beran but obviously don’t take it now!
Talk to the house of healing type guy and he’ll restore your health and you can save. This is probably the best place in the game to build up levels as you are able to rest for free so take advantage. The monsters around here give out 1200-2000 EXP so you should be able to go up levels easy but watch out for enemies that cast Defeat or Sacrifice.
Hargon’s Castle
To get to Hargons Castle go northwest of the Rhone Shrine. Now you should see a castle below, work your way to it. It seems to be Midenhall when you enter as you can use the item shop or Inn. However use the Charm of Rubiss and the illusions will disappear.
Now you are not in Midenhall but Hargon’s Castle. You can see the flames that were previously talking to you. At least their Inn worked.
To continue on is tricky. The purple demons will fight you, as Gold Batboons. Behind them are a bunch of damage steps but if you go to the northwest one face up and use the Jailor’s Key a path will open up. Cast Stepguard again and go through to the middle part of this and use the Gold Key, facing north. Another path opens and go on the white spot in the center. Use the Eye of Malroth and you’ll teleport to floor number 2.
Go northeast and east into the structure and up the stairs. Go south in the next area and then west for some more stairs. Follow it around again on the next floor but this time a unique monster stops you, the Atlas Boss. He looks like Cyclops or Giants but is tougher obviously. He doesn’t have a ton of HP but attacks twice for about 50 damage each time so Increase helps and so does Defence for making him easier.
On the next floor go to the far west without falling off. Now go north and try to go east through the wall and you will. But a Bazuzu will stop you. He likes Defeat and firebane. Might as well not use spells on him because they don’t work, including Defence.
The following floor, go east and into the next room after healing. You’re fighting Zarlox now, yikes. He’ll use Explodet, and Increase, and attack physically twice for large amounts of damage. He might use Healall too which would piss you off a lot im sure.
Past Zarlox is the last room. You can see Hargon. However you answer his question, he’ll be pissed and it’ll be time for battle. Hargon looks like a crazy wizard. He’s not that difficult, really. His HP isn’t that high, maybe 400 or 500 if that. He does use Explodet, and Healall. He will also put you to sleep and attack you physically twice. Just Healall when you have to and attack him, it’s unlikely anyone but the Midenhall Prince and his Thunder Sword will do meaningful damage.
But you’re not done yet! There is someone even more powerful than the Sorcerer of the Shadowtime Hargon. Try to leave but Malroth will be coming after you! He is gigantic, green and a little orange.
He will cast scorching flames. This takes off a ton. He will also attack physically but only once (its still about 70 damage). If you did the trick to get two Waterflying Cloth’s then you’ll have added defense against his breaths for both the Cannock Prince and Princess. He can also make you faint with his physical attacks.
On turn one, attack with the Prince, and then use Increase and Defence with your two magicians. This is a good base for you assuming Defence works. Heal up after Malroth’s damage on the first turn and continue attacking. Your prince attacking is your best bet. Fortunately he doesn’t have as much HP as you’d think, being the final boss and all. This isn’t too say he isn’t volatile enough to take you down.
Rubiss revives and heals your party and you’ll be outside Hargon’s Castle (which disappeared). Return back to the Rhone Shrine, take the teleport and go back to Midenhall. Enjoy the ending!

Awesome. Thanks for the info. It would be nice to post a scan of that map with all the stats
At the end of the game before you approach the king go to the right to where the opening for the roofed area is. Before you could pass, but at the end of the game you can’t. Try talking and you will get “….” as your reply. I wonder who is there. I wonder what the answer is.
