Dragon Warrior FAQ
Here is the classic RPG. You are the descendent of Erdrick. You are thrust into a world of monsters and you need to fight thousands of them to gain levels. Eventually you save the princess of Tantegel and fight the Dragonlord at the end of the game to save your land. The world of Alefgard is one where monsters only travel by themselves - so the battles are only you vs. one enemy. This is good but doesn't make it any easier. Experience points and levelling up is of prime importance if you want to travel to new areas. Dragon Warrior I is a game that requires a ridiculous amount of enemy killing to gain levels unfortunately. Gold takes long to build up as well and you need that for new weapons and armor just as badly. This affects the playability but for the time it was obviously ignored. Nowaday it's embarrassing to think how slow it was. Thankfully since we have emulators we can use the speedup button (the ~ / ` key on FCE Ultra) to negate the speed issues and make a time consuming game more reasonable. There are free weapons and armor like Erdrick's Sword and Erdrick's Armor. Not exactly easy to find though. You will need to get several random items and then eventually the Rainbow Drop so that you can go to Charlock Castle (just southeast of Tantegel Castle / Brecconary Town). Erdrick's Descendent (the hero, you) learns spells and is an able attacker. It will be his physical attacks that kills the true Dragon Lord. However he does learn Heal, Healmore, Hurt, Stopspell, etc. |
