Dynasty Warriors 6 Unlock Characters

Nine characters start off as available to use in Musou Mode / Free Mode.  As you clear certain objectives (either targets battle, or by completing musou's) you'll unlock more characters.  Remember, not all characters can be used in Musou Mode (story mode).

 

 

Zhang Fei - Starting character for Shu.

Guan Yu - Starting character for Shu.

Zhao Yun - Starting character for Shu.

Zhuge Liang - Complete Musou Mode with 1 Shu character

Huang Zhong - Complete target one at Mt Ding Yun Wei Side.  Watch Xiahou Yuan at all times to make sure he doesn't get in trouble, and of course take out Huang Zhong to complete the target.

Pang Tong - Complete target 3 at Pacification of Cheng Du Shu Side.  You need to keep Pang Tong alive despite repeated ambushes by Li Yan, Zhang Ren and Yang Huai.  Either stay by him or race to him (especially when ambushed by Zhang Ren).  

Yue Ying -  Complete target 1 (Defeat Guan Ping and Yue Ying within 10 minutes) at Wu Zhang Plains Wei Side.  You'll want to clear the bases out of the initial wave of Shu officers and then head south into Guan Ping's camp.  The good thing is Guan Ping and Yue Ying are in side by side bases. 

Liu Bei - Complete musou mode with 3 Shu characters.

Guan Ping - Complete target 2 at Fan Castle Shu Side.  Make sure Guan Ping does not die.  

Wei Yan - Complete target two at Wu Zhang Plains Shu Side.  Make sure Wei Yan (southeast part of the map) survives.  

Ma Chao -  Complete target two at Han Zhong Battle Wei Side.  You need to defeat Ma Chao, Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei within 15 minutes.  Zhao Yun should start just northeast of you, and then you'll see Ma Chao in the south and Zhang Fei to the east.  Remember to be patient with the 15 minutes because if you rush Ma Chao or Zhang Fei you may find trouble.  That said, neither are powered up.    

 

Sima Yi - Starting character for Wei.

Dian Wei - Starting character for Wei.

Xiahou Dun - Starting character for Wei.

Zhang Liao - Complete Musou Mode with one character from Wei.

Xiahou Yuan - Complete target one at Mt Ding Yun Shu Side.  Help Huang Zhong take Mt. Cha Qi in the northwest.  After taking Mt. Cha Qi, Xiahou Yuan should come after your forces and meet with Huang Zhong.  Xiahou Yuan is powered up but defeat him and then make sure Huang Zhong survives the rest of the way.

Xu Huang - Complete target two at Fan Castle Wei Side.  Ensure Xu Huang's survival by beating the nearby officers and then keeping and eye on him the rest of the way.  

Zhang He - Complete target two at Han Zhong Battle Shu Side.  Zhang He appears on the cliff in the mid-south and jumps on Guan Xing shortly after the battle starts.  Defeat him, and then Cao Pi and Sima Yi are in the north part of Han Zhong.  You have 15 minutes to defeat all three generals.  

Xu Chu - Kill Xu Chu and Cao Ren at He Fei Wu Side.  Cao Ren is at the northwest castle while Xu Chu is in the center of the map.  Since you have to do this in 10 minutes you may wish to go straight to Cao Ren's base to kill him, take it over, and then head for Xu Chu.  

Zhen Ji - Complete target one at Xu Du Castle (Invasion of Xu Chang) Lu Bu Side.  You have 15 minutes to defeat Zhen Ji, Cao Pi, Xu Chu and Cao Ren.  This is a six star difficulty stage so be prepared.  Cao Ren is just north of you, and after defeating him you'll want to take the west and then north route (going through the front gate takes too long to siege) . This way you can enter Xu Chang from the west side and work your way to the area where Zhen Ji and Cao Pi are.  Taking them out simultaneously is the hard part, and then you can finish off Xu Chu just north of there.  

Cao Ren - Complete target two at Fan Castle Lu Bu Side.  Capturing all the bases is more of a tedious task than anything else, and even more annoying is when Xu Huang appears in the northwest and you'll have to go back if you wins any bases over by the time he makes his way to Fan Castle. 

Cao Pi - Within 5 minutes, defeat Cao Pi at He Fei Castle Wu Side.  Cao Pi is holed up in the northwest base - you should have no trouble getting to and defeating Cao Pi in 5 minutes.  

 

Sun Shangxiang - Starting character for Wu.

Lu Xun - Starting character for Wu.

Zhou Yu - Starting character for Wu.

Zhou Tai - Complete target number 3 at Yi Ling Shu Side.

Sun Jian - Complete three Wu Musou Modes. 

Sun Ce - Finish battle of Xia Pi with Sun Ce alive.

Sun Quan - At battle of Chi Bi Lu Bu Side, defeat Sun Quan and Cao Cao within 10 minutes. 

Lu Meng - Complete target 2 at Battle of He Fei Wei Side.  You'll need to defeat Lu Meng and Sun Quan but you have 20 minutes to do so, and Sun Quan isn't even powered up.  Lu Meng's forces will work their way east all the way and then north, along with Zhou Fang.  Take him out and then finish the stage, 20 minutes should suffice.  

Taishi Ci - Defeat Taishi Ci at Conquest of Wu Sun Ce Side.  Nothing too complicated though he is powered up and at this early of a stage your character probably isn't too developed (unless you have a powered up character in Free Mode to use). 

Xiao Qiao - Complete target 3 at Battle of Shi Ting Wu Side.  You need 7 total units to survive including Xiao Qiao.

Ling Tong - Defeat Gan Ning, Ling Tong and Xiao Qiao at Shi Ting Wei Side.  This is target 1.  This can be difficult as Ling Tong and Gan Ning early on will attack Cao Xiu and they are powered up.  Fortunately it's a small stage so 10 minutes should be more than enough if you don't get yourself killed.  

Huang Gai - Complete target 3 at Battle of Chi Bi Allied Side.  You will need to make sure every unit survives so have a fast horse and aid all your ally generals.  

Gan Ning - Complete one Wu Musou Mode.

 

Diao Chan - Complete musou mode with a Shu character, Wu Character and Wei Character.

Zhang Jiao - Complete the third target at Yellow Turban Rebellion Allied Side.  This is kind of a silly and trivial target, having Huangfu Song and Zhu Jun at the Yellow Turban Main Camp at the time in which you defeat Zhang Jiao.  This all needs to be done in 20 minutes but that should be plenty of time. 

Lu Bu - Complete musou mode with all the rulers (Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Jian) and Diao Chan. 

Dong Zhuo - Complete Lu Bu's musou mode.

Yuan Shao - Complete all three targets at Guan Du Wei Side.  Now this is one of the harder characters to unlock.  Defending Yan Jin and Bai Ma requires you to kill the officers attacking these bases FAST.  Start off by heading to Bai Ma to wipe out Shen Pei and Xun Chen.  They aren't powered up so hopefully this can get done before Yuan Tan comes in.  He is powered up and his tough defense will make him a bit difficult to put away.  It is essential you don't lose too much time here because Yuan Shang isn't too far behind, and then Yan Liang / Yan Rou / Chen Zhen run in.  Yuan Shang and Yan Liang have the same defensive boost as Yuan Tan so you're going to have to be good and quick.  After they are defeated, head to Yan Jin (if it's not too late) and take out Wang Xiu / Han Meng / Yuan Xi and then Wen Chou and friends.  You're still not out of the clear as you have to make sure Gao Lan or Cui Yan don't make their way to Yan Jin to take it over.  You can't lose either Yan Jin or Bai Ma!  Worse yet, you need to be fast enough so that Guan Du West or Guan Du East castle gates are not breached.  So once Yan Jin and Bai Ma are safe, make haste to Wu Chao to take it and then defeat Yuan Shao.  All that work for Yuan Shao unlocked!  You may want a built up character for this because doing it in a Wei musou mode without building a character up would be extremely difficult.
