Battle of Jia Meng Gate

"Sacrifices must be made, even by the most saintly of men. One man moves his army to the lands of Yi, so that one day he might bring peace to the world.

In the year 214 AD, to stop the advance of Liu Bei, Liu Zhang requested the help of Zhang Lu. Were Liu Bei's officers able to win the day and the land...? "

Strategy: You are the Shu army, and you are advancing on Zhang Lu in order to reach Shu. Unfortunately for you, Zhang Lu has the warrior Ma Chao guarding his area. Zhuge Liang in turn has set a trap to oust Ma Chao and ultimately recruit him to Liu Bei's army. Make this happen and the battle should be yours.

Throughout the battle Zhang Lu will be barking at Ma Chao and the Xi Liang troops for this and that. You can help anger him by defeating Ma Dai and taking out the guard captains in his area (southeast). If you're Zhuge Liang, this is the first thing you should do, as he starts off in the area. Zhang Fei meanwhlie starts in front of Ma Chao, while Wei Yan deals with Yan Pu and Zhang Wei.

Zhang Fei should take out Ma Chao and then Ma Dai and the Guard Captains there. This should make Zhang Lu very mad, and by the time you're done with Ma Dai you can probably head back to take out Ma Chao the second time. He will then join your army after the second defeat, although he is weak and often is defeated a third time once he joins your army. Anyway, mop up whatever else is left that Wei Yan was dealing with and then head north to take out Yang Ang, Yang Song and Yang Ren. Finally, kill a semi-powerful Zhang Lu.

Zhuge Liang and Wei Yan start in opposite corners of the map. Each should lock up their respective areas and then head to the center to defeat Ma Chao. After the first defeat, go to the opposite corner of your characters starting position and clean that area up, and then return back to defeat Ma Chao a second time. Once Ma Chao joins, treat the battle as you would Zhang Fei and squash the rest of the generic generals.

Note that if you are a bit slow, Lei Tong and Wu Lan will show up in the eastern corner. In addition, if you do not get the southeastern gates, Gao Pei and Yang Huai will join the battle as well. None of the four is an issue though.
