Final Fantasy VI Finding Terra Airship
Celes wakes Locke up and the party will agree to split up, with four of them going west to search for Terra and the other two staying back. The next split requires us to take Locke and Celes along for sure, so with that in mind you may want to leave those two out and take Sabin, Edgar, Cyan and Gau. However none of those four knows magic so you probably want to take Celes and leave back someone else (I chose Gau and Locke to leave back).
Now you actually have a chance to explore Narshe. Go south from Arvis’ house into a house with plenty of treasures. Wall Ring, Sneak Ring, Hyper Wrist, Thiefknife, Earrings, and 5000 GP can be found. There is another treasure but you cannot access that yet. You may wish to buy some things here now that you have a chance, and they have Mithril Shields in abundance. A Flail for Celes is useful to put her in the back row and still do good damage.
Kohlingen / Jidoor
You can have Figaro transfer here if you’d like, just talk to the old guy in the left basement when you walk in. First, go north and Sabin will explore the castle (if he’s with). Rest here for the night and you’ll go through the Sabin / Edgar family thing. Remember to buy the Drill and Flash at the tool shop. The best tool is the Chain Saw and the Drill is basically a poor man’s Chain Saw (and not much worse).
Once Figaro switches deserts, go outside and go north. You’ll see a single house, and there is a Hero Ring in a pot in this guy’s house. Return south to Kohlingen and rest. Shadow will be around but he won’t be friendly. You can buy stuff around here and get an Elixir from a grandfather clock, but other than that there isn’t much to do. Oh, if you brought Locke, you can see the sidequest with Rachel (he’s referred to her a few times).
South of Kohlingen is Jidoor. They have great body armor here that is definitely useful for whoever you have. New weapons are here also, but not much else (oh, a Tincture in the northmost house). South of here is the Opera House, which is closed, and north of there is Zozo.
Zozo
This is a weird place, definitely. As you go around, you’ll meet a bunch of different guys who talk about the clocks hands. If you’re trying to figure this “trick” out, just realize that everything they say is a lie. This will eventually help you figure out where the clock hands are. And if you’re interested in what this is pertaining to, in the north part of Zozo town there is a building with a clock, which you can set. If you set it to the right digits it’ll open a path to a really good Tool for Edgar. Don’t look below if you don’t want to see the spoiler
Spoiler
clock time = 6:10:50 for a Chain Saw. The Chain Saw is Edgar’s most powerful tool. It can also be used as an instant death attack although this can sometimes be annoying when he attempts it on bosses.
Spoiler
The house below this leads to a place you can’t get to until much later, but it does have a Tincture accessible at the very top. The southwestern most house is the largest and the one that you need to go to. Just work your way up, grabbing the Thief Glove at the very top. Go down a floor or two and jump west, to a mid-area and then to another building. Enter in and go to the northwest part of the room to search for a Potion and a Tincture.
Go outside and continue on up on this southwestern-most building. Only a few floors higher and you’ll have a chance to jump back to the first building that you entered on the ground floor. Do so and you’ll go inside and go up several flights up stairs. Return out and go north a bit to see a weird looking guy blocking your way (go in the door first for a Fire Knuckle).
This is Dadaluma. He’ll lie to you and say he won’t fight you, but he will! He’s not that hard, although when he’s near death he’ll call for help from two Iron Fists (and then return when you kill them) and he will use two Tonics, a Potion, and Safe on himself. Still though, just hammer away at him and he’ll go down (dropping a Head Band), and north is the top floor. Before you go straight north, go to the west side first for a RunningShoes and then the right side for an X-Potion.
North is Terra in Esper form, lying in bed. Go up to her and Ramuh will appear. He is an Esper who looks like a human. He gives you his abilities along with three other espers, and tells you that in order to help Terra you have to save the other espers in Gestahl’s factory. Try to leave and the other members will be at the door for an automatic storyline sequence going through Zozo. At the end it’ll be decided that two of the members are to go back to Narshe and the other four are to go south to Jidoor to figure out more information.
Celes and Locke are automatics, which is why I advised you may wish to choose someone other than them earlier. I left Gau behind last time also, so I’ll take Gau and Edgar (lowest level) along with this time. Remember, you have espers to equip for each character. They can each equip one and you now get Magic Points after each battle. You get a spell based on the amount of magic points you gain multiplied by the rate at which each spell is at. Starting off you can really give any of the espers to whomever you’d like, I generally give Kirin to Celes though.
Jidoor / Opera House
Go to Jidoor and go to the northmost house. Talk to the Impressario to find out that Celes looks like a woman in the opera named Maria! Read the note on the way out and you’ll learn about Setzer, a man with an airplane with a flair for the dramatic.
Go south to the Opera House and talk to the Impressario yet again. He’ll tell you of his problem and Locke will get a crazy idea. Celes goes through with it and you’ll have to memorize some lines for her. She’ll have 3 different choices, with two answers and only one of them being right. Choose the first option, second option and first option to get them all correct. Now go up to Draco and follow him around, and then grab the flowers when he disappears and go north, where Celes will throw the flowers into the air.
Everything else is automatic for now, until Locke leaves the dressing room and see’s a note from Ultros. He’s trying to mess the show up so tell the Impressario, who will have you go to the northeast room. You are timed during this, you have 5 minutes, so make haste and use Sprint Shoes. Anyway, go to this northeast room and talk to the guy who will tell you to hit the far right switch. Do so and run to the room opposite of this (northwest of the impressario seats) and this door will be open.
You are high up now, where Ultros is. You’ll be fighting some rats around here, and you have to kill the yellow ones or the other ones will keep re-spawning. You should have plenty of time to kill every group of them up there if you are efficient, and it’ll help your levels. When you get to Ultros, both of you will fall down and then all hell breaks loose.
Everyone is on the floor and the actors don’t know what’s going on. Ultros is still pissed and battles the three of you (minus Celes). I had Gau use Hazer (Bolt 2) and Edgar hammered away with the Drill / Chain Saw, and Ultros went down easily.
After the battle Celes is captured by Setzer and taken to his airship. The rest of your group follows and Setzer is upset when he finds out the truth. Your party kisses his ass a little and he changes his tune after a trick coin flip on Celes’ part. Setzer joins and flies your party to Vector.
Albrook / Maranda / Vector
The town outside is Albrook. Note that you can enter Setzer’s airship to rest or buy stuff but you can’t fly it. Albrook might have some items of interest but you’re better off going to the far west town on the continent (Maranda) to buy defensive / attack gear. Tzen is a town north of Vector and there is an imperial base east of Vector. Really though, Vector is the only place where you can do anything other than Maranda.
Inside Vector, you can head west and enter the small building. Talk to the person and don’t pledge your allegiance to the empire – two guards will come out, kill them easily and the person there will now give you free hp / mp restoration. Go east and talk to the older-looking guy and he’ll tell you of a plan he’s hatched, since he’s a returner’s sympathizer and all. Go through will it and run into the factory. Keep to the east and go through the white door to get a Tincture, and then head left and take the crane for a Flame Sabre. Return near where the Tincture door was and take the one left of it to get an X Potion, and ride the crain east for a ThunderBlade. South of this is a Remedy and a new crain to ride down on.
This room will have machines on the assembly lines. First, head to the southwest corner and get the Dragoon Boots. Go a little north and up the sets of stairs to get a Gold Shld. Go back down these stairs and east of where you got the Dragoon Boots and take the narrow way south (the one that goes on the ground floor instead of the elevated floor). Go through the door directly to your south for a Gold Helmet. East of this is another door going south with a hidden Gold Armor in this area (keep searching). Further east is a Tent and then you’re going to have to circle back and get on that elevator with the machines on it.
You’ll wind up by Kefka as he’s throwing Ifrit and Shiva down an elevator. Follow them down and talk to Ifrit, initiating a battle against him. Obviously, use Ice and Drill and your normal powerful attacks. Shiva will join in once you do enough damage and eventually they’ll submit, giving you their powers through espers. Go through the northwest door to save and then east to continue. You’ll be in a magicite room eventually and you’ll want to search the last stall (work your way south and search around – you’ll find a Break Blade, best sword in this world).
Soon you’ll come up to a skeleton-looking guy – he is Number 024. He can confuse you, but with Celes healing and Gau Catscratching and Edgar using the Chain Saw, he shouldn’t last more than 3 or 4 rounds. Careful when he confuses you though, especially Gau. Continue along and flip the switch at the northmost part of the next room – you then acquire Unicorn, Bismark, Phantom, Carbunkl, Maduin and Shoat.
Kefka and Cid storm the party as Kefka says that Celes is about to screw you over! Locke doesn’t believe it and Celes ends up saving the party from Kefka and his henchmen. Locke and the other two members flee with Cid.
Save at the bottom of the elevator, it’s time for a mine cart trip. You’ll fight various types of Mag Roaders along the way, and eventually Number 128 (with Left / Right Blade). This is a somewhat tough boss that attacks fast with three different parts, and even though you can kill the Blades they regenerate after a while. Use your best moves depending on who you have, whether that be Edgar’s Chain Saw or Gau’s Catscratch, just kill the center part and you’ll have the battle won.
The cart crashes into a magitek enemy and a save point appears north of you. You can save there (and even go further north to re-enter the magicite factory). You’ll fight some Chaser’s around here, somewhat difficult enemies. Further south and Setzer will join you and you’ll leave via the airship. Kefka however sends two Cranes after the airship in a pincer attack.
Each Crane is weak against different elements but if you stick to Tools / Catscratch / Regular attacks, you should be okay. Try to gang up on one right away instead of spreading the damage out equally. After the battle you’ll be able to go to Zozo to check on Terra.
Zozo and Esper World
With Maduin along, Terra will finally get the key to unlock her past. Maduin, an esper, was her father, and Terra’s mother was a human. So Terra is half human half esper, and basically this flashback details this and shows how Gestahl came about Terra. It’s long and tedious but if you’re on an emulator you can use the fast-forward button to ensure you don’t have to spend too much time on it. Terra will join and it’ll be time to go back to Narshe. Before that though, there are some things to do.
this was very detailed thanks for the help
Hey, no problem Justin. Glad you enjoyed it.
I like this part of FFVI, when you first start getting Espers and are able to choose between 8+ characters. The game begins to open up…
I always miss that chainsaw for Edgar! If I miss it the first time in Zozo can I go back and get it afterwards?
Its actually best to only take 3 characters with you so when you find shadow you can BUY his help, this is a very important part of the game as there are cut scenes you may need later as i dont want to give away spoilers but while shadow is in your party go to bed than go out and battle and repeat until u have seen 4. Also having sabin and edgar in figaro castle on the way back will trigger a cut scene and if you go to bed it will show the history between what happened with the brothers and why sabin left.
What is that JyungWoo? We can ‘buy’ Shadow’s help? At Vector?
You must be referring to the resting scenes that we get sometimes with Shadow. I’ve seen some but not all.
I know about Sabin + Edgar at the castle, I always avoid bringing them though because I’ve seen it 100 times lol.
haha i forget to read the dialog. so i forget where do we go after we found terra
RPG 101, talk to people and remember what they say :) You go to Jidoor and then the opera house.
Though all that esper stuff upon finding Terra gets tiring. I remember not saving, dying later on and having to re-do all that BS over again.
I don’t bring locke on my party, when I collect the espers there’s no scene . And when I back to jidoor there’s no impressario in the northern house
Pls help
