Coneria
Starting off you get to choose your response time (higher for faster) and character classes. However you choose it, try to be a balanced party – I’m going two Fighters, a White Mage and a Black Mage.
Head into town when you get control, and to the weapon / armor shops. Buy Rapiers for the Fighters and a rod or knife for the mages. As for the armor shop, buy the Chain Mail for the Rapiers but mages can only have Cloth. You can see the Black Mage / White Mage shops – buy whatever you have money for and fight up for a bit if you want to get some more. Oh, and be sure to go into the menu’s and equip the Weapons / Armor you purchased.
The king is looking for the Light Soldiers. He needs someone to rescue the princess from Garland who holds her in a temple northwest of here.
Temple of Fiends
Just head northwest and you’ll see a broken down temple. Go north as you enter to fight Garland. He’s not that difficult if you’re equipped with something and have a few spells. Being at level 3 or so would be nice.
Talk to the princess and you’ll be back at Coneria. The king will order a bridge be built for you to go to the continent and the princess will give you the Lute. Leave the castle and go north for the opening scene.
Pravoka
First head north of the bridge to a witch’s place. She lost her crystal. You’ll find a Pure and two Heal’s next to her.
Leave the town and go east and south a little to reach Pravoka. Careful on your way there – the enemies get tougher with Ogre’s and Iguana’s around.
Upon heading in, go up and left to meet Bikke the pirate. He battles you (well, 9 pirates do) but they’re extremely weak. Just attack each one and they’ll go down. Not only do they offer to be peaceful, but you get their ship.
You’re probably going to want to fight around, gaining some levels and getting some level 2 spells and new weapons / armor. They’re all expensive. In fact, besides some of the spells, most of it isn’t worth it.
Elf Castle
Because southwest of Pravoka (or south of Coneria) is the Elf Castle where there are level 3 and 4 spells, and better weapons / armor. Unfortunately, unless you’re cheating with a game genie code you’re likely not going to have the money for all of this. The prince here is sleeping and needs a certain HERB from Matoya the witch.
Cave of Marsh
If you go southwest of the Elf Town, you’ll reach a hole in the ground. It is the Marsh Cave. The enemies here are much more difficult than before, so come stocked with restorative / status items.
As you enter the Marsh Cave, go north into the next area.
Northeast into the building for a Large Dagger and west for 680 gold. South for the final two treasures here, 620 gold and Short Sword, and then go back to the entrance and go south.
You’re going to want to work your way southeast and take the stairs. Enter the nearby building for Iron Armor. East all the way and in the building for 295 gold. You can see there are a ton of places for you to go. The lower rooms are locked by the Mystic Key. You need to go north of the Mystic Key buildings and start going east. You’ll reach a peculiar looking room with a chest and Wizards come after you. Your best bet is Lit, and maybe you have Lit 2 ready for use. You’ll want to focus your Fighters on one at a time to trim their ranks fast – it varies how many Wizard show up but definitely makes it harder if there is 4 or 5. Search the treasure now and you’ll find the Crown. You can keep searching for more treasures. East is 385 gold. There are probably other items – but also lots of empty chests.
Northwest Castle
As you leave the Marsh Cave, return to the Elves and rest / save. Gain some levels, buy some stuff, and go north of the Marsh Cave (northwest of the Elftown) to reach Northwest Castle.
Inside you will meet Astos who is the king of Dark Elves. He has Matoya’s Crystal and wants the Crown too. He’ll probably use Rub on you which will kill you in one hit. Just attack him and hopefully your heavy hitters stay alive. Astos yields the crystal.
Back in Matoya’s Cave you can give her the crystal so that she can function properly. She rewards you with the Herb!
Rush back to the Castle of Elf and you can talk to the guy next to the Elf Prince. The Herb wakes the prince up and then talk to the prince for the Mystic Key. This opens all of those locked doors you’ve been seeing. Go to the northeast part of the castle for a Mystic Key door and Silver Hammer, 400 Gold, 330 Gold, and Copper Gauntlet.
Now that you have the Mystic Key, there is a lot you can do. Go to the Northwest Castle again and into the locked room. The first treasure has six Images guarding it – use Fire2 and attack. Grab the Falcho. The treasure northeast of here is guarded by 5 Mummies. Use Fire2 again to basically kill them all – they can put you to sleep and take off heavy damage though. An Iron Gauntlet is in this chest. Finally, the west chest is a Power Staff and is guarded by three more Mummies. You can continue to fight these battles if you walk in front of the chests again. It’s good for EXP but still tough battles.
Coneria
Head back to Coneria. You can get some more Mystic Key treasures. In the northeast part of the Coneria Castle are a few Sages and six chests in the rooms by them. Starting from the right, they are Silver Sword, Sabre, Iron Staff, TNT, Iron Shield, and Iron Armor. The TNT is a special item.
Castle of Fiends
North of Coneria is where you fought Garland.
Go to the southeast part of this castle for some Gargoyles and Rune Sword. In the southwest is a Cap. The northeast has a Were Sword and Soft. The northwest has a Heal and some other inconsequential item. You’ll notice the swords aren’t better than the Silver Sword.
Dwarf Cave
Northwest of Coneria is a place your ship can dock at. Get off and go west then south and you’ll see the Dwarf Cave. Go north for about 1000 gold. Southwest and you can give the TNT to a dwarf to continue his digging. The building nearby is a Mystic Key door, so go in and get Cabin, Iron Helmet, Dragon Sword, Silver Dagger, Silver Armor, 575 Gold, and House.
Melmond
Get back on your ship and sail west. You can go across the canal and reach Melmond. This is another place with some crazy stuff for your party to buy. You probably can’t afford much of it unless you’re cheating. The Armor shop has a Steel Armor for 45000 gold! All those White Magic Level 5 spells are good – it’s tough to choose which one to leave out.
Earth Cave
West a tad and south of Melmond is the Earth Cave.
You begin at a fourway. West and you’ll notice you’re getting in an infinite amount of battles against Giants. There is nothing here but them so fight them for EXP if you want but be careful.
Head north for a treasure. It is 1975 Gold (to the right of this treasure is a battle against Earth). Now go back to the fourway and work your way south (the first south path is a dead end, so go east a little then south). You’ll see a building with two treasures. There is another automatic Earth battle if you go south one space of the east-most treasure. Get them both – 880 Gold and Heal. East a little more for 795 Gold and Pure. Another Earth battle north of the closest chest.
Now go up and work east this time. You’ll be in a new area soon. Within this new area, go to the northeast for three treasures (Coral Sword, Cabin, and 330 Gold). Far to the south for another building which is guarded by Earth. Get the 575 Gold, Wooden Shield and 5000 Gold.
Southeast for the stairs.
Go east and inside for a Tent. Northeast for a Heal then start working west along the north wall. The northwest building has nothing but Earth in it. Start going south then east (in the building for 1020 gold and another Earth fight) and then you see the Vampire.
All living things were meant to die I guess. He’s not as hard as you’d think – his HP is rather low. Harm works well as does Fire spells ( if you have Fire 3 and Harm 3 you are fortunate). Watch out for his Dazzle spell. Get the Ruby afterwards. It will take you forever to leave but do so.

All of the items and screenshots are from the SNES version, and none of it is the same as the PSP version except a few of the town names. This also only goes up to the second crystal. What???????
Throughout the remakes the game remains unchanged for the most part.

then im having a problem.. i finished the lich guy and i saw the yello crystal in my menu.. how come i didnt get the first crystal? it started on the second one.. ahm.. did i miss something?
hey umm yea at the part were u get the TNT i looked through all the chests and i didnt get the tnt now im stuck can u help?
Unchanged my tail! They make FF1 easier with every remake, and in the near future they’ll be producing rerererereleases that beat themselves!
haha, well played. It’s the series of re-releases and it’s the first game in the series, what do you expect lol.
Let’s face it, the playability would be ruined if they made it as brutal as FF1 NES in terms of leveling up. Gamers nowadays would not accept that and the buyrate would suffer. And hey, FF1 PSP looks pretty…
I’ll be honest I hope for the other remakes that they have this smooth 2D that FFIV Ultimate Collection is implementing as well. So much better than choppy 3D from FFIV DS.
That’s why they need multiple difficulty levels — which they did in the PSX version, only to delete all but the easiest difficulty later on.
lol Corneria I think it is Coneria but it depends on the version.
