Good news, loyal followers.
On the heels of the Human Test bbPress plugin (to keep users out), we now have a plugin to deal with the existing users (should they wish to turn on us and spam).
The bbPress Moderation Suite plugin has a few different features, all of which I activated.
If you are a Moderator (or higher in permission level) you should see a few new options under posts by normal users. There is now "Warn" and "Move". Move is just a way to move either the post or the topic elsewhere. I think we had this option previously but this might be a way to have more options in moving posts / topics.
Warn is what we want. Just click Warn and you will have to confirm it (and give a reason if you want). I set the Warning restriction to 1 warn = 50 month ban. If it is done on accident I can always undo it, but this should be a simple way to get rid of these knuckleheads that keep advertising things.
With this bbPress Moderation Suite package we also have Ban Plus. I don't see an option on the front-end to ban users like we have with warning, so I think Moderators and Admins have to go into the back-end to do it. But the Ban Plus plugin has things like Banning an IP in addition to the username, so the more troublesome / persistent users we can just ban their IP from now on.
Other functions in this bbPress Moderation Suite include "Report" (which should show up for regular users, to report the spammers…but since many of the regulars are already mods, it should not be a problem) and a Moderation Log, which will help us organize our banning efforts if we ever need to reference it.
Questions and feedback along the way are welcome. Most importantly I'm hoping Moderators are able to use these functions, I am still not sure yet as I am an Admin so I don't see the interface that Moderator-level users are seeing. Specifically, does the Ban Plus link above work for Moderators?

July 29, 2012 at 4:54 pm #44641sonic.penguinModeratorI used to be a moderator once for a game called "Runescape", on online MMORPG. While having the powers was cool, it made everyone think you knew everything about the game and made it no fun to play anymore :P So I say, never again!

If they get smart and get another username we might have to Ban IP with Ban Plus, we'll see.
sonic.penguin…go to a topic with a normal user post (not a moderator / admin like MiDKnighT or me)…do you see the report option under the post? Just curious

Those are usually one post per account, maybe two-three posts per account.
Time to break out the IP banner!

Yep, that's why I linked to the Ban Plus part of the plugin so we can not only warn / ban the users but ban the IP to prevent future attacks from the same IP.
