Okay, so I’ve been searching for the DP section of the ROM that DOAEditor pulls from to set the officer defense. Now it goes from 3E739-3E747 (in the original rom) and then just… stops. In the 1MB version its the same thing, it creeps around FE738-FE73F and then just stops… I can’t seem to find where the other half of the section is???
Niahak, could you throw me a bone here?
January 18, 2014 at 9:49 pm #53113sonic.penguinModeratorNew Sprites for DOAEditor!
Not 100% sure if this will be helpful or not, but with the new sprites that got added to DOAEditor its super annoying not know what they look like even. I know they are not in Red/White, Green/Brown, or Green/Pink but there were 2x as many sprites as when the first DOAE sprites were done. I know they’re not cut out and in indvidiual .gif format but maybe someone can help with that. This is the sprite page in .jpg so you can see the sprites each named, starting at 54=Liu Bei2, you can see the list below:

That was a project I was hoping Niahak would do since he did the portraits.
That said, having that jpg would be nice as a reference when changing sprites! I’m going to include this image in the IPS patch zip file.

That’s exactly what I did. granted, I could have also just gone slice by slice through the sprite sheet and merged the halfs, but then id have green-blue alien looking guys. I have the .PSD so I can wipe out the background color easily. If someone could lecture me on how to make those for use in DOAEditor, I can at least get us one color of sprite to put in there that we can use for all 4 until someone can do the sets of the other 3 default colors (which is honestly a waste of time in my book since we can change sprite colors now).
January 19, 2014 at 9:28 am #53117MiDKnighTModeratorLike Atma said, it’s better for DoaEditor to just pull it from the ROM like it does with portraits. But until that’s done we can use this image as a reference.

Yeah I know, but I needed something as I’m working so much with sprites currently that it’s a major pain in the butt to pick the wrong fitting sprite and having to keep on changing it for 200+ characters
January 19, 2014 at 5:41 pm #53128sonic.penguinModeratorModified the front of this thread to provide more information to visitors and potential modders:
The most recent beta version is available here. Please test it and let me know what bears fixin’!If anyone wants to help maintain the code, or in the event of a loss of interest or unfortunate accident on my part, the code for Destiny of an Editor is freely available at the following SVN:
http://www.dev.niahak.org/DoaEditor/
The only restriction I have is that you must not laugh at my awful code organization. This was built compromise upon compromise over the course of four years.
What is “DOAEditor” you say?
Well to put it plainly, DOAEditor is a hex editing tool that uses a point, click, and type functionality to modify many of the functions in Destiny of an Emperor without having to go into detail about ‘hexing’ everything in. It was created by Niahak @ niahak.org and has currently been modified to incorporate more features by MiDKnighT here at the lordyuanshu.com/forums website. This tool has come a LONG way since its original incarnations but has made hacking Destiny of an Emperor by far much more simple to the average person.
Quite impressive!
January 23, 2014 at 9:21 am #53212MiDKnighTModeratorNew version!
Gonna use the same link each time now which is: http://www.niahak.org/doaed/DoaEditor.zip
Changes:
– Sprites and sprite colors loaded from the ROM. Can see front view, side view, back view.
– Larger IPS tables now built into DoaEditor
– 6th shop item added to towns
– Portrait size doubledPreview:
January 23, 2014 at 4:36 pm #53215MiDKnighTModeratorMaking progress on the villager part:
Any suggestions on the layout? I could possibly squeeze more things on there but it will be tight. Namely:
– Edit the way the villager stands or walks (need to dig a little to see exactly how this works)
– Change sprite and color of the villager (note this would change it for multiple villagers across the game)
– Edit food price/quantity (would affect every town)January 23, 2014 at 4:46 pm #53216sonic.penguinModeratorFor some reason, Lei Bo is pulling up Lu Bu2… Cai Yong brought up Zhao Yun2… gonna check the HOC mod and see if those are what are actually in those sprite slots….
… and they have been modified! I’m changing them back to the original since I have the DOAE2 sprites in another page. I LIKE this new feature! :thumleft:
January 23, 2014 at 5:14 pm #53217MiDKnighTModeratorSo no bug then? I think the villager stuff is going to make text editing a lot easier. Instead of looking at one giant text bank you can edit each town’s villagers individually.
January 23, 2014 at 5:20 pm #53218sonic.penguinModeratorAwesome. So far the new editor is a LOT more friendly towards editing the game in more than just battle swaps, text, and map tinkering. These new features really make editing this stuff a LOT more fun. I can spend more time on editing and less time searching through the hex.

That’s the point! :thumright:
January 23, 2014 at 10:18 pm #53220MiDKnighTModeratorThe “Places” list is going to expand greatly soon. I’m realizing that the villager pointers expand way beyond the towns and such. Looks like individual houses, etc… are treated as “places”. Will add those to the list soon.
