Glad to see LYS has kept the smoke pots lit for the glory of Huo Hu.
I still regret never completing the hero of chaos mod after having been mired in bugs for weeks that sucked the life out of it. Since then ive had a family with two great kids and life just keeps me so busy now. I’ve still tried to follow up on all of the great tools still being made by MidKnighT. Thanks to everyone here for your dedication.

August 16, 2021 at 8:16 am #54904MiDKnighTModeratorVery nice, good to hear from you sonic. I’m sure the HOC issues are fixable and I’ve probably already fixed several issues in the last few weeks. But ya, real life can get in the way of modding. That I understand.
IPS 1.3 added so many major features that it was inevitable that there would be a lot of bugs to chase. I know that changing major game mechanics will almost certainly create bugs. There’s no way around it unless you understand everything the game is doing internally which I do not.
June 25, 2022 at 9:29 am #55000DragonAtmaModeratorDid anyone ever figure out how to rename cities? I know that city names are 7FC90-7FDE2 and FFC90-FFDE2 while pointers are 7FC21-7FC4F and FFC21-FFC4F, but changing them breaks DoaEd, so there must be references elsewhere.
Unfortunately, “Just use the same lengths as the vanilla game!” is not an option. :/
July 9, 2022 at 3:00 pm #55005MiDKnighTModeratorIt is possible but it’s a pain as you have to update the table pointers in 2 different tables and move them.
Niahak did this for the text banks in DoaEditor but it’s a major pain and caused multiple bugs.
The easiest way would be to kind of merge space with the surrounding names. For example if 3 towns in a row in the table have 25 characters and the lengths are 10, 10, and 5, you could alter the lengths of those 3 like 12, 7, and 6. So in that case you’d only have to update 3 pointers in each table header.

For example Chang Sha has place ID 65 so it’s lookup values are at 0x3FC35 (little value) and 0x3FC75 (big value) which is pointing us to $FD23. Add start of page (0x3C010) + $FD23-C000=3D23 and we get the location of the name at 0x3FD33. The name ends with FF. If you expand the name then you have to update the pointers (little value and big value) for the NEXT name.
