I've been doing a run through of Final Fantasy V GBA the last month or so, and am nearing the end of the journey. Just grinding job classes so I'm able to beat Omega and Shinryu. I also hear there is an Omega 2k and Neo Shinryu, or something like that (added just in FF5 GBA). We'll see, i'm having enough fun with regular Omega in this one. I swear he's harder than in the SNES / PSX FF5. Anyway.
It's pretty well known one of the big keys to defeating Shinryu in the Rift is to steal Crystal Lances from the Crystal Dragon (Dragon Lance in FFV GBA). Now this can be extremely annoying because almost 90% of the time the Crystal Dragon will yield an Elixir, instead of a Dragon Lance. Oh, did I mention you need two for each character of these? At the very least you need 4. Not to mention Crystal Dragon's are somewhat rare to encounter, this can make the task take forever.
But I figured out a way to expedite the process. Steal from the Crystal Dragon, and if it's an Elixir, cast the Time Magic spell "Return". This will return you to the beginning of the battle, giving you another opportunity to steal. And of course it will be a 'fresh' opportunity, meaning you won't continually get Elixir's. Now with the absurdly low rate you MIGHT still keep getting Elixirs, but keep casting Return and eventually you'll steal a Dragon Lance. And then you can bail from the battle.
This tactic will literally save you an hour or two of fucking around with the Crystal Dragon's.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingAugust 2, 2009 at 4:16 am #36533Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWow, Shinryu never ceases to amaze me. It's always why I finish up FFV thinking it's my favorite FF, it's my favorite era of FF, and it could very well be one of the most challenging battles in any FF. Always is harder for me than the FFVII super bosses, and the Shinryu battle is just more natural. Beating Ruby Weapon is such a mechanical process. Anyway, did a bunch of updating on my strategies for the Omega and Shinryu battles and will probably post a topic detailing it more on here too.
And I haven't even dealt with these new Neo Shinryu and Omega MKII battles. But I guess there are some new classes in FFV GBA that are really cheap (haven't got them yet, obviously) but I don't think I'll be able to beat these next two bosses without them, so…might as well see how they do.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 31, 2011 at 1:06 pm #36534MiDKnighTModeratorWow… Lord Yuan Shu you seriously have great taste in games. I'm finishing my 2nd FFV run and I'm hunting for dragon lances. I am going to use this tactic :)
My guys are at about level 40 and have mastered all jobs. Maybe I don't have enough HP for Shinryu yet… How much HP do you think is needed? Do I need to do some level grinding?
And FYI – Doae1, Doae2, FFIV, and FFV are probably my top 4 all-time games. A couple of the RotK games and FFVI would also have to be in my top 10.
March 31, 2011 at 1:30 pm #36535MiDKnighTModeratorAfter further review, I should probably level up more. Best places for experience appear to be Lethe Court and Titan's Cave in the bonus dungeon.

I am going to use this tacticYea it's ridiculous when I think of the time I spent back and forth in that damn void look for the Dragon's. Pretty sure they aren't in the same area as the Movers that yield 150 AP so that blows (though maybe they are, can't say for sure off memory). The Return thing is nice though, wish I took the time to experiment with that back in the 90's when I first played him. Man I remember first coming across that chest and thinking nice, a monster in the chest it probably drops a nice weapon. Had no idea there would be a guy harder than the main boss in there.
Quote:My guys are at about level 40 and have mastered all jobs. Maybe I don't have enough HP for Shinryu yet… How much HP do you think is needed? Do I need to do some level grinding?Hmm, maybe a little more grinding. I'm assuming you have Coral Rings to absorb the water. I think I pretty much just have Haste on everyone and then jump fast with those Crystal Lances. Like I said I usually only get 5-6 and I think I've done it with 4 before. One or two characters usually survive if I'm lucky enough.
Where is Lethe Court? The other new area?

DoaE I and FFV are probably top 5 for me, along with Suikoden I, II and Dragon Warrior IV. FFIV probably top 10 and DoaE II top 15 though. RTK III would be the only RTK up there for me but it'd probably be in thte 10-12 spot, I've spent a lot of time on that one. That would be a hard list to figure out though.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingApril 1, 2011 at 12:21 pm #36537MiDKnighTModeratorQuote:Where is Lethe Court? The other new area? One of the FAQs called it "Lethe Court" but it's the void in the bonus dungeon (where Enuo lives). That area has the best experience in the game. The top 5 experience givers all live there:
EXP Monster
50000 Hades
40000 Ironclad
30000 Dinozombie
30000 Claret Dragon
25000 Duelist
So time for some more grinding in the bonus void… I still don't have any dragon/crystal lances – I need to get some. Perhaps when I'm at level 60 or so I'll go back to the original void, go steal some dragon/crystal lances, and fight Shinryu.
April 4, 2011 at 3:55 pm #36538MiDKnighTModeratorI beat Shinryu and Omega at about level 55-60. I only had 1 dragon lance when fighting Shinryu but I did have some of the bonus dungeon weapons like Longinus, Mutsunokami, and Apocalypse. I found Omega to be harder…
Then I did some major grinding Lethe Court and got up to level 75 then took out Enuo (took 2 tries – the 2nd time I had to equip some ribbons because his status affects were nasty). So then got the Necromancer job and beat the Cloister of the Dead to win the "Medal of Smiting" which was pretty easy.
The only things left are Omega MKII and Neo Shinryu but I think I'll grind to at least level 90 before taking on those BEASTS.
April 6, 2011 at 12:54 pm #36539MiDKnighTModeratorBeat Omega MKII at around level 76 on my 2nd try. Spellblade Firaga + Rapid Fire = Dead Omega MKII.
Neo Shinryu is another story though… He owned my arse twice. I think I do need to farm for dragon lances to beat this beast. Have 2 so far…
April 8, 2011 at 2:04 pm #36540SirazraelParticipantMan, now I'm gonna have to play FF5 again. Thanks guys :p
May 30, 2011 at 12:56 am #36541Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI gotta try this bonus dungeon, Lethe Court or whatever. According to your strategies for Omega MK + Neo Shinryu, it's basically the same as the previous battle just that they probably have more powerful abilities / higher level / stats? Spellblade + Firaga is how you beat Omega (well I think it's Thundaga, maybe this Omega MK is weak to fire though instead).

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJune 19, 2011 at 4:11 pm #36542Jiang WeiParticipantwow, you don't need the dragon lances to beat shinryu, just make everyone a freelancer(str/vit of monk, spd of theif, mag of summoner(master those classes of course)), be lvl 56+ and have everyone equiped with coral rings, spam bahamut/meteo, and have bartz use SShot(the hunter ability that hits four times, eight with duelweild) when equiped with the braveblade and excalibur, have the princess heal
June 19, 2011 at 4:16 pm #36543Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHmm, interesting Xaigoth. Never tried that strategy before with Bahamut / Meteo. Well, always have to have Coral Rings of course, and use Freelancers.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJune 19, 2011 at 4:18 pm #36544Jiang WeiParticipantis it just me or does shinryu like to spam tidul wave?
June 19, 2011 at 4:27 pm #36545Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYep. He does. That's basically a gimme attack for us since having Coral Ring's is basically mandatory (unless you somehow have 6000-7000 HP to survive the initial one to start the battle lol. Which case this battle wouldn't be hard anyway). I forget how he usually kills my characters actually, maybe regular attacks?
Level 56 does sound a little high though, not sure I ever get that high. I like going into the Void and killing off the Mover's for 150 AP.
