ParticipantI believe he’s referring to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. A lot of people didn’t like that one, but I thought it was pretty hot. Different style. Different and original is always good in my book. Part 2 was hard as fuck though compared to its predecessor…especially on the final palace. Its got fuckin’ 1-ups inside of it.

ModeratorNemix is correct.
Ah, the days of the NES…

KeymasterHm…well see I’ve played through that one several times. Zelda II is damn hard especially that last dungeon, like you say Nemix. I remember having no clue how to damage that last enemy that flies around (not the link vs link battle).
I just didn’t understand your ‘beat it on 8 / 8 / 1 stuff’ I guess lol

Moderator8/8/1 means 8 Attack, 8 Magic, 1 Life.
And LYS needs to cast Thunder before he can damage the guy.

Keymasterhehe yea I know the Thunder trick now. When I was a wee lad playing though, it took a few deaths before I figured that out. Even then it’s hard to hit the guy while dodging all the crap he throws down.
And I see now with the life / attack / defense stuff. That’s pretty impressive if you can do it without maxing those.

ModeratorI’ll be honest: I worked my tail off getting that good.

Keymasterhehe. Yea Zelda II is cool because with the action elements, it takes talent. Not saying turn based ones don’t but it’s more of a tactical game.
How many times have you gone through and beat it you think? I probably have 5-7 times fully but not recently, and the last few have been on emulator…this game is much easier with an NES controller.

ModeratorIIRC, my latest save is Atma030… So thirty quests have been started since I took the handle Atma (Dec. 1997). Keep in mind that I first got Zelda 2 when it first came out, so the grand total is probably 40-45 quests.
…that’s a lot of quests…

KeymasterDamn, yea you’re a Zelda II veteran I’d say. You could teach former member ATLUS some skillz

ParticipantI remember reading in an old issue of Nintendo Power (like, the NES glory days!) that once you beat the game, you could start the game as other characters in the game, such as the Bridge guard. I was all excited, but then years later on read that this was some kind of April Fool’s joke if I recall right. I actually just beat the game for the first time a few summers ago, and although I couldn’t play as anyone else, it was awesome to be able to replay the game with maxed out stats (kind of like a game+ mode). Curious as to see if anything changed when beating the game for a second time, I beat through Zelda II again only to find out that absolutely nothing storywise had changed. Scoundrels!

ParticipantYou DO remember how OLD that game is, right?
September 26, 2008 at 1:46 am #35508UltraCraig64
ParticipantI meant that the issue was a contemporary of the game. This as opposed to a retrospective covering of the game. After all, issues ranging from a few months after a game is released to a few years afterward may cover something about it. Also, it was to highlight that I grew up reading the very first Nintendo Powers (pre-dating even SNES and Game Boy), not just "old" ones. I made a point of distinguishing the "NES glory days" issues from the rest because they are my favorite of any era in the magazine (although I still loved the SNES and N64 era issues). But back to the real matter: way to nitpick, antlan!
