Okay so I'm playing through Suikoden Tierkreis again, very slowly. Just was saved by Asad and Chrodechild and now am going to the Mage Kingdom for the first time. Still come away after playing this thinking that it's absurdly easy. There were some mildly difficult times in the Grayridge Mine but that was mostly because I was down there messing around for a while and most of those problems are solved by the auto-hp restoration at level-up. I'm wondering when the first time I can go to that Volcano is, I know you can get that one engineer-type Giant there real early.
Anyway, the real reason I'm posting this is to talk about how some words are prohibited. Was going to name my company the Zhorne company since it's kind of an inside joke with one of my good friends. But the game didn't let me do it. Did horne set it off? No…Ho did. You can't use ANY combination with HO in the word. I can understand 'fuck', 'shit', etc. But really? Ho?
It gets more strange. Evidently I can use the word 'fag', but not 'fagg' or 'faggot'. Okay…Not as bad as blocking anything that has 'ho' in it but still…this is getting to be too much guys.
So what'd I name the company? lil' fags… huohu

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJanuary 2, 2010 at 3:58 am #37288DragonAtmaModeratorAh yes, some companies are dumb enough to do that nonsense. In the game Uniracers, using a curseword for a name is banned, but there are two others that are banned — out of some crazy paranoia, the names "sega" and "sonic" are also unusable. Nevermind that it was 1994 and the SNES was crushing the Genesis…
January 3, 2010 at 2:22 am #37289Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHaha…can't say 'sega' or 'sonic', they're naughty…
I mean if the person is going to put the name as Sonic or Sega they already know they exist. Hard to see the point with that one…

Also can't use "drugs", "marijuana", "pipe", "crack", and some racial slurs. the game blocks out towelhead!!!
But I guess "jew", "acid", "meth" and "druggie" are fine lol…

The Genesis is generally considered a success.
The N64 is generally considered either a failure or at least subpar.
Yet the N64 sold more consoles than the Genesis.
January 4, 2010 at 6:21 pm #37292Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWhaaaat. N64 a failure? By whom? I seem to remember people thinking it was the shit from about 96 to 2000-01. Likewise I don't remember anyone championing Genesis as the best system in it's time – most went with Super Nintendo though I have to say I have just as many good memories with Genesis. Shining Force II and Phantasy Star IV stand up to anything SNES has to offer, for me.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJanuary 5, 2010 at 5:42 am #37293DragonAtmaModeratorN64 was fine for me, but some take a glance at PSX sales and then insist that N64 failed because it sold much fewer. *shrugs* I personally think that it wasn't a failure, but I'm not everyone. Would've been better if they had more RPGs, though…
And yeah, I've seen sega fans insisting that the genesis won the 16-bit console wars.
January 5, 2010 at 3:47 pm #37294Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWell Sega fans can say what they want. I might like the system more than SNES but I'm not going to say Sega was more successful – but Nintendo was still living off their NES work and no doubt had a carry over to their next console.
I don't think N64 really failed, that was one of the best times for video games with a 64 and the PSX. Worst thing you can say about 64 is that's about when the Nintendo franchise starting becoming first-party heavy which has been true for the Gamecube and Wii as well. Just no depth past the Mario and Zelda and Metroid offerings (Starfox, Mariokart, etc). 64 was short on RPG's, this is true, though Ocarina of Time was a legendary hybrid action/rpg and Ogre Battle 64 is considered one of the best games to a lot of a people (though to be fair I haven't played it much and it was back in 2000 when I did…)
Though I guess that stopped with the DS as it is littered with good third party games but as is the topic of this thread, somewhere along the way they decided to kiddify 90% of their DS games.
