Nice job so far, I understand it's still a WIP. Any of LYS' mods give me quite the boner. ;D
Just a few notes/questions:
I assume you messed around with the palettes a bit, or something. Probably introduces some nice new sprite colors, but everything in the map looks kinda out of place. Blue sand lol :P Hope that's just part of the testing…? Unless you intended Dong to be trippy when this happened.
Bao… who? Haha, always nice to have more Song Rens and Song Yongs.
I believe it's Guang Zong. Not a huge deal, also might be alternate spellings.
As for the world map, I understand that you tried to sort of "guide" the player through geographical features, but the path is pretty narrow and doesn't encompass a whole lot of space, which makes it annoying when you're trying to move around for the first few minutes trying to level up through random encounters and such. And I keep running into the boulder/mountains -_-
Lol, what's up with the random crossover into the Ding Yuan territory? I almost died from a heart attack at the castle battle. ;P
Also, I believe the cave is the first place to visit? Having a cave before a city battle is usually a bad idea, as food depletes VERY quickly when traversing caves. I ended up having to make a mad dash for Xiongnu after going under 100 food at the end of it.
!!!
One final thing: WHERE'S THE HORSE MAN LI SU BULLSHITTED ME
April 22, 2012 at 12:19 am #42364sonic.penguinModeratorHey stallion, I never got to hear about your thoughts on the Rise of Ieyasu mod, I even listed you in the credits FLEXX
I wanted to try out this Dong Zhuo mod now that I am finishing up version 2.0 of Rise of Lu Bu
It looks trippy!
April 22, 2012 at 1:09 am #42365Stallion FuryParticipantHaha, sorry about that man! Every time I try to get back to stable playtesting, shit keeps crowding up my life lol. Better use this end-of-year to summer season to jump back into Ieyasu. And Rise of Lu Bu, which I surprisingly haven't played yet, as I was kinda on hiatus during its development. And thanks for the credit bro. ;D
April 22, 2012 at 1:46 am #42366sonic.penguinModeratorRise of Lu Bu has 2.0 is coming in the next few days…..
Rise of Ieyasu got tons of updates, so make sure you update it

Quote:Blue sand lol :P Hope that's just part of the testing…?No, it's the real deal lol. Think of it as a snowy/wintry mix with the ground that makes it that color. He starts up in the north, after all.
Quote:Bao… who? There will probably be a lot people don't recognize about that early Dong Zhuo era, unless they are hardcore Dong Zhuo fans. He only has so much true history that I wanted to include it as best as I can. Will help stretch the game out as well in terms of characters Dong adds to his army (which again is going to be done as best as I can in regards to when he actually met / allied with people).
That applies to Guang Zhong – according to the same source above, that is what it was.

And I keep running into the boulder/mountains -_-Sorry about that. The thing is, it is right near the border of the map. If I go too far north or west, it'll show all light-green squares, which is out of place for that normally-snowy part of the map. I think it opens up a bit more anyway, but going through again I'll see what I can do about that in area 1.

Both are just meant to provide some kind of side challenges if you wish to do them earlier on. Otherwise they can be encountered later (meaning you're not really supposed to go south at all for a while). Good point about the cave though with the food depleting. Then again, doing it early means you have less soldiers to support huohu
I appreciate you going through Stallion, the feedback was good as well. Cool pictures too. I'll have to post what I have too.

No sense working 4 months, 10 hrs a day on a rom only for no one to know about it, not like I wanna pull away from your mod :P
Ah, just some pointers about mod colors LYS. A LOT of the colors tend to be harsh on the eyes and don't compliment each other. Some are too dark, others too light. Combining light green w/ light blue makes it hard to make out features and makes some characters kind of "glow" but doesnt really fit if ya know what I mean? Maybe experiment a bit more

April 22, 2012 at 6:29 pm #42370sonic.penguinModeratorDownloaded… first thing I noticed… your colors are reversed for your imported portraits… ie: Yuan Shu/Zhao Yun replacement/Qiang forces you should swap green<->blue so the faces arent so… red. Blue= Dark red /Green= extremely light tan. If you used TLP, I always had color issues with that.
First note, you use yellow scarves/turbans interchangeably.
Starting guy says "Go now Dong" LOL
Bian Zhang and his ilk really tear the snot out of your troops. I've died like 5 times already >.< Its cheaper to just die and not have to resurrect your troops
Again, the sprite and town colors remind me of a game of laser tag, they need a little more contrast in my opinion
I do like the unique area/starting plot though :)
April 25, 2012 at 4:51 pm #42371cabalpapaParticipantLYS, a couple notes that I've found so far… There is a spot a few spaces south of the fortress you first face the Qiang and Hu tribe that apparently houses a Yuan Shang battle meant for much later… I accidentally stumbled upon that one. When Li Ru joins after the new Emperor becomes king (yay for keeping Dong), he still mentions about leading the Yuan army, which I assume is left over from your Yuan Shu mod, lol.
April 25, 2012 at 9:49 pm #42372Stallion FuryParticipantOMGWTF. WHERE IS ALL THIS SHIT?! I CAN'T FUCKIN FIND MY WAY ANYWHERE OFMSNJSLKFJSLADKJ
k ill just go suicide against ding yuan over and over again
April 25, 2012 at 10:48 pm #42373sonic.penguinModeratorI noticed the Yuan Shang battle as well in the middle of nowhere. It was directly East of the starting point in some little cove past the Hu gate.
April 26, 2012 at 3:27 am #42374cabalpapaParticipantStallion Fury, just a few paces south of the starting village, there is a path through the mountains to the east… if you follow it, it will take you to some of the starting battles…
With that said, I would recommend to anyone playing this mod to hit up the cave south of Xiong Nu for the general and gold. Both will be needed to progress through the beginning battles.

Combining light green w/ light blue makes it hard to make out features and makes some characters kind of "glow" but doesnt really fit if ya know what I mean? Maybe experiment a bit moreI experimented quite a bit with it and came to this. Like you say, most of the other colors make things look relatively weird. I tried to make the sprites darker to make up for the lighter green and the snow areas. It looks as close to snow/ice mixture as I could find which is what I wanted (but I didn't want it exactly like the terrain in the normal snow areas of DoaE). My only issue with it is I wish I could make castles in the northern lands have those palette colors and then use the non-snow versions in the southern cities.
Quote:Again, the sprite and town colors remind me of a game of laser taglol, well come on, you got the dark maroon and some other fucked up sprite colors on your mod. Only my purple/green sprites look a bit odd to me in this one; the other sprite palette combos used are pretty standard. It is what it is, we're just making it unique.
Stallion Fury, listen to cabalpapa's advise about the terrain. The starting house, you can go east from. cabalpapa is also correct about that cave; you really have to tough it out and survive that cave to get Li Su and his 429 soldiers, among other benefits from going through
Quote:One final thing: WHERE'S THE HORSE MAN LI SU BULLSHITTED MElol, yea I need to eliminate that line. The horse is later on, in a cool optional spot (that people may have seen, far to the northeast).
Quote:First note, you use yellow scarves/turbans interchangeably.Well people / factions can have more than one nick name? If anything it's negligent for the dictionary character use more than anything. People can figure out who the game is talking about either way. I tried to make it mostly Yellow Scarves though, so I'll have to do some searching for Yellow Turbans, must only be in there once or twice.
Quote:Bian Zhang and his ilk really tear the snot out of your troops. I've died like 5 times already >.< Its cheaper to just die and not have to resurrect your troopsHaha huohu this coming from Mr. one-shot kill himself, with the argument of "I want to make resurrects in battle matter again". The game is definitely difficult at first, and I want it to be so. The first few sections for Dong Zhuo's mod are the most important in my estimation, because like I said that will be the historical account so I want it to be more of a focus / harder to get through.
You'll have to pick your spots leveling up and not fighting Han Sui and Bian Zhang who can smoke you early on. Buy your Bandanna's and Leather's.
I will change some things with the difficulty though. Just went through it on speed-up to test. For one, I made Wang Kuang with a far better weapon than he should have(mostly to make the optional gate battle in the northeast harder to beat until later). But then in the battle with Cao Cao / Cao Hong / Wang Kuang, I had to kill Wang first because of his damn AP. That battle in general is very hard with Cao Cao there.
What does everyone think of the Eunuch battle at Luo Yang? Tried to give them good soldier counts / AP / AC to compensate for their relative weakness with STR / INT.
All the battles are done in the order that Dong Zhuo went through in real history.
Thanks for the heads up on the Yuan Shang battle, I think a few people mentioned it. Yep, that's left there from the Yuan Shu mod. I ran into it several times too and just forgot to move it out of the area.
I'm pleased with the character placement so far. Instead of Song Ren / Song Yong spots joining, you meet two characters who start off as allies (but don't join you and then you come across later). By the time you get to Qing Zhou castle with the Turbans, there is Xu Rong and Hu Zhen, and then Li Ru joins in the Liu Feng spot. So Hu Zhen kind of ends up being useless and sent right to the billeting, though he is decent enough to be a consideration for the party. I suppose with Dong Zhuo and his relatively deep army, there will be options.
Enough rambling from me. My SFTP is fucked up right now so I can't post pictures but once I get in I'll upload a bunch.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingApril 26, 2012 at 12:37 pm #42376MiDKnighTModeratorYou gotta incorporate this into your story somehow…
"Records of the Three Kingdoms recorded an incident in which Dong Zhuo led his troops to Luoyang and ordered them to kill all the male inhabitants and loot the city, under the pretext of eliminating a rebel army. It was said that Dong Zhuo even slept on the emperor's bed and had sex with palace maids."
April 26, 2012 at 1:15 pm #42377Zhuge LiangParticipantI just downloaded it and gonna put it in PSP and see if the PSP NES emu can run it perfectly.
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
