So, with the help of others, I’ve made a good amount of progress on making the SNES version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 moddable. At the very minimum, the following things can be modded:
* Officer names
* Officer Int/War/Charm
* Officer birth years
* Officer join years
* Which officers autojoin (and who they autojoin)
* Officer positions (ruler, free, etc.) in each scenario.
* Scenario start dates
* Officer loyalties
* Officer families
* Pretty much all province stats
* Province adjacencies
* Force leaders
* Force priorities (for determining rebel colors)There are also these, all or at least partially thanks to Marsil:
* Officer compatibilities
* Officer innate loyalty
* Officer expansionism
* Officer virtueThere are also these, all or partially thanks to ServantOfMagnus:
* Officer portraits
* Officer palettes
* Which officers are in each scenario
* Officer province locations in each scenario
* Which nine officers die early
* What age the early-die officers die atMost of that info is found at http://www.mediafire.com/download/d0qnfaceln1wal8/rotk2-data-Atma.ods ; the rest is in the recent posts on http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/588628-romance-of-the-three-kingdoms-ii .
But there are four things that I still need help on; I’ve looked, but I can’t seem to find them. And where better to find people that can fix this problem than here? Things that really should be found in the game itself:
* The flood-fill points (for determining where provinces are colored). I found the exact pixels — the upper-left corner of the red squares in http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5066/floodfillspots.png (off-province parts are in yellow, as some provinces — such as 5 and 17 — are almost completely off-province), but not where the game stores them.
* When they mark a province’s number (as opposed to it being an empty square for, say, provinces you cannot invade), it grabs a specific tile for the province. If you change the map, you have to find and change the tiles on that list, or it’ll use the tile corresponding to the vanilla version. So in http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/6821/drunkpath.png , province 15’s tile would be taken from the 8/9 border. No, I haven’t found the list despite trying.
* Which spots they flash. Fortunately, we have that info! Values 4 and 6 of the 11776 block are the x and y positions, respectively.
* We need to find battle maps. Until then, there will be some problems. Invading province 4 from the northwest, for example, will have you trapped by mountains.Now, we already have have most of the info needed to mod rotk2. All we need is a bit of help to find those four pieces of data, and then one of the most awesome SNES games around will be fully moddable!
…although it certainly wouldn’t hurt to continue afterwards, so we’d have awesome enhancements the way we did for DoaE…
