So Cao Cao gets Flail and dagger codes while Dun gets 53+Robe and Yuan gets 54+Robe ?
January 17, 2014 at 12:56 pm #53046MiDKnighTModeratorYeah, I realized that last night. I posted that on the rh guide yesterday. A whole slew of text is messed up.
This is mostly unique to the Cao Cao mod. Just open it up in DoaEditor and open up another mod at the same time in another window and copy and paste the appropriate text from a good mod over to Cao Cao mod in the appropriate text slots. That should fix it.

No, Cao Cao gets Flail/Robe, Xiahou Dun gets 53/Robe, and Xiahou Yuan gets 54/Robe.

Yeah, I figured you would say that >_> At any rate, I don’t understand how the shops could be messed up because I haven’t done anything to shops. They must have been fussed with before.

The problem is that IPS patches deal with fixed bytes and locations while text banks are very flexible. So there’s no way to make an IPS patch that can deal perfectly with everybody’s text bank. What I probably need to do is just make sure the IPS patch is not touching the existing text banks at all and just add the duel text and such to the new text bank. That I can fix. But the only way to deal with the Cao Cao mod now is to manually fix with DoaEditor (sorry).
I’m at a loss as to how the merchant shops got fooked too. If you see it happen again let me know. Maybe something is overwriting them.

Yeah, me too. I’ll let you know if that has trouble again, no worries :cactuar:
Any ideas on how to make all the weapon shops have 5 items for sale?

This got trickier with the expanded items. I had to check Ludmeister’s Remix to see how he did it. Make sure the AP’s for Xiahou Dun and Yuan are right. They might be one weapon off.

3C94January 17, 2014 at 6:00 pm #53056Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantWow! I just skimmed through everything. Destiny of an Emperor modding has progressed a whole heck of a lot since I was working on the Cao Cao mod. Some of this new stuff looks really cool.
What’s the plan for this mod? To modernize the Cao Cao mod I worked on in times past as we chatted about earlier? Or something else? I would love to see the mod I put so much work into being modernized and expanded, and made more balanced. I just made it too difficult for normal players.
I hope I didn’t make things too frustrating. We didn’t really have tools to do much aside from something to help with scripts and an earlier version of Destiny of an Editor, so there was a fair amount of by-hand editing involved. Some of what was done was never really documented, though it doesn’t look like the two of you have much trouble tracking them down.
January 17, 2014 at 6:10 pm #53057Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantOr rather, I should say, undocumented editing based on case-by-case research and advice from other modders. I might still have some of my documentation if it could be helpful.
It doesn’t look like there is much left to figure out, though?

Well, my plan is to go all-out with a total conversion, much like the Rise of Lu Bu 3.0, Rise of Ieyasu 2.0, or the latest Flames of Wu Mod or even the Yuan Shao mod. Give those a try and let me know what you like so we can get a feel of what to incorporate into this mod! While I will try and maintain some parts of the script, I will likely be making some modifications that add more ‘variety’ to the stock DOAE journey: Guan Yu’s aid to Cao Cao (now with a removal code!), Huang Gai’s betrayal, probably Zhou Fang’s betrayal as well but these sorts of things take work to make them believable… Going through and balancing it takes multiple playthroughs, but I already know from my own mods that things had to be toned down even from DOAE 2.0, this mod was just ridiculous but we’ll get it fixed, it was a true pioneer and is what got some people into DOAE modding in the first place. MiDKnighT is a master at code and has souped up some great work in the DOAE hacking world so I think we’ll pull something off nice with this collaboration.
However, since you know the history more than probably anyone around here (I’ve only watched the TV series once and seen a few movies) it would be helpful if you could check up every now and then for questions we might have, granted, in some cases we may have to improvise…
1st. question: Did Cao Song really hang around while Cao Cao hunted the turbans? That was my first thought…
2nd plan of acion: Keeping Cao Cao through the whole mod FLEXX
3rd arrangement: Killing off members of the party!
4th undertaking: Making this mod bug free :alien:Or rather, I should say, undocumented editing based on case-by-case research and advice from other modders. I might still have some of my documentation if it could be helpful.

Hey, long time no see over here @ lys :thumright: I wouldn’t say there isn’t anything left as I know there are a number of issues in my book:
1. Increasing the cost of recruiting officers after battles: although now that I think of it this one I think was discovered…. have to check the romhacking guide.
2. How the heck did you put Dian Wei instead of the Yuan Shu messenger in Chang An, when I tried it it broke the game. These “special instance” sprites have yet to be discovered since their X,Y placement isn’t ‘normal’, it’s probably in an array of some sort?
3. Accessing cave interiors and editing them
4. …and anything else you can think of!January 17, 2014 at 9:36 pm #53059DragonAtmaModeratorCao Song was one of the highest ranked people in the han dynasty, actually; he was Minister of Finance 大司農, then Minister Herald 大鴻臚 (both Nine Ministers ranks), and in 187 was promoted to Grand Commandant 太尉 — although the third was likely either from Emperor Ling selling offices or from bribing top eunuchs. In any case, he was too busy to assist Cao Cao, and when he retired, Zhang Kai assassinated Cao Song while he was heading back home.

It’s kind of what I thought.
You know what I just realized Atma? We don’t have a “War Fan” icon!!!!!!???
January 17, 2014 at 9:59 pm #53061DragonAtmaModeratorOf course not; despite what DyW says, the three kingdoms period never used war fans!
January 17, 2014 at 10:20 pm #53062sonic.penguinModeratorBut that’s like the iconic symbol of Zhuge Liang! If it were possible ….nudge…nudge… I would definitely replace the shepherds staff with a fan.
January 17, 2014 at 10:27 pm #53063sonic.penguinModeratorOkay so here are my thoughts on the breakdowns of weapon users:
Everyone should have the sword as a default weapon because it is going to be really hard to spread out as many weapons as there can be in proper tiers for each chapter. You’d need to have like 3x as many weapons. So in other words, at specific chapters, using a ‘specialized’ weapon is going to offer an officer better stats over the sword and/or double hit advantage ie: bows and whips.
However, I’m trying to not break the game by giving bows to super high agility officers and just have them get like 8 attacks, so Bow/Whip users will typically have LOW AGI but make up for it in the extra attack by the weapon. Does that make sense?
Also, something in DOAEditor is breaking the shop data… When trying to fiddle with different shop stock items, something happened where all my Merchant shops only sold weapons. When trying to make modifications later, every merchant shop was selling silver keys for 0 coins. Then I tried to mess with it again, reloading the rom in DOAEditor, it got a JIT runtime error.
I had to implement this fix again:
0x3903E: 0024002300211F1D001B001A1900171600101112140E0C000B09000000070503010101010101010101010101010101Also for some reason, Power Pil (36) is appearing on my item list, but I think that one was bugged and doesn’t work as a power pill should.
This is what is changing: 39068-3906C is being changed to 00
3905E is being changed to 04
39065 is being changed to 02…and I think I found it. For some reason the merchant shop is being changed simply by scrolling through DOAEditor. For example just going up and down through the shop menu is causing the merchant shops to change items
ALSO
Opening another ROM in DOAEditor while another one is currently loaded in the same DOAEditor causes it to crash.
ALSO
This got trickier with the expanded items. I had to check Ludmeister’s Remix to see how he did it. Make sure the AP’s for Xiahou Dun and Yuan are right. They might be one weapon off.

January 18, 2014 at 9:27 am #53070Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterlol seven pages of discussion already. At this rate it will be done in a month or two, not a year.
War fan is pretty cheesy. That’s a Dynasty Warriors creation (or was it in the fictional RTK books as well, I forget). DragonAtma knows his stuff he would know.
Good to see James around. I’m sure his mind is blown seeing some of this stuff.
