ModeratorOkay, once my creative juices aren't occupied (should be sometime within the next 24 hours)

ModeratorSO I decided to reread about officer block posts…
Now that I think about it, the ruler should be more than capable of holding a block; that would be his close-knit circle of friends. Aftera ll, even though Tao Qian may have given his crown to Liu Bei, that doesn't stop Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, from being Liu Bei's close friends and confidantes!
We'd have to work out all the advantages and disadvantages to officer blocks; presumably officers can only be in in one block at a time, so if (say) Huang Gai is in Yuan Shu's block, Sun Ce would first have to peel Huang Gai off of YS's block before he could be added to Sun Ce's block.
Later on in the game, ideally the player would have most of his force's important officers in his personal block — thus stifling any rival blocks. Of course, troublesome events (like getting a 7-year-old heir) would greatly weaken the block (either immediately or over time), thus giving Cao Shuang and Sima Yi more leeway to strengthen their own blocks…
…yes, there should be an option to declare a minor the heir. Just because Liu Cong isn't 16 when liu biao dies, that doesn't stop him from existing, and things may go differently. While we're at it, we need to decide how much everyone desires to be ruler (their title, whether they're a relative, whether they're the closest relative, their stats, their desire to rule, how much of a block they have, etc.), as a poor choice can be lots of fun…

ModeratorQuote:Looks nice, did you do that in DoaE? Got the hex?If you by DoaE you mean MS Paint, hell yeah! But if by DoaE you mean DoaE, then no. Sorry. :(
As for getting hex, just open a dummy file in TLP, paste the icons, save, then open it in a hex editor; the hex valeus should be right there.
As for the icons themselves, they assume that the gaps on DoaE letters are on the right and top edges; if the gap is elsewhere, then you have to move the icons one pixel.
Viva stone age applications!
…you may also want to extend the barrel on the gun icon one pixel (and move the icon on e pixel left); there's room for it, and IIRC the guns they had were all rifles, soooo…

ModeratorDid someone say ICONS!?

First row: fire, water, lightning, wind
Second row: defense, haste/slow, buff, an sha
Third row: arrow, boulder, gun, catapult
DragonAtma
ModeratorThen you should share what you want (historical earth? fictional earth? fictional non-earth? fictional with dragons? past? present? future? in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace? etc.) with the board; maybe someone'll come up with a good idea or two!
And yeah, scripting language would be useful. Especially if it lets someone intelligent but bad at programming come up with some AI improvements.
DragonAtma
ModeratorAww, I thought that Unfy and I had a lock on that type of game!
On a more serious note, ithere's a rudimentary AI for it as well — see http://dragonatma.webs.com/other/Battle%20AI%20&%20testing%20materials.zip for details. It's not a perfect match, but there may be ideas in your AI that help our game, and there may be ideas in our AI that help your game!

ModeratorRoTK games normally have these attributes:
Lead
War
Int
Pol
Cha
If you take RoTK stats and multiply by 2.5, that'll give you a number 2-250 (or 25-255, for the earlier games). But what would they be used for? Some ideas:
Lead: Resisting enemy attacks, effectiveness of An Sha
War: Damaging the enemy, effectiveness of Duel
Int: Effectiveness of most tactics
Pol: Affects exp/gold gained after battle
Cha: Effectiveness of some tactics, officer recruit rate
The problem is that Pol and Cha aren't really used much in a DoaE-style game; as a result, combat stats (lead, war, and int) shine more than the other two. If you want Pol and Cha to be useful, then you'll need to do something management-related in the background — say, having food & gold come from Liu Bei's lands and depend directly on the politics & charisma stats of everyone in billeting.

Moderator…better yet, open it up in TLP and edit it in.

ModeratorQuote:Sonic, I feel a bit sheepish/shameless for asking this, but I wanted to ask you permission to use some of your sprites and portraits to improve Ludmeister's Remix. Do you consider your portraits as "common domain" around these parts? I totally understand if you want to restrict them to your personal mods; they are your work. I especially liked the idea of having portraits for the generic "Force" enemies.Obviously, I can't speak for all the portraits, but the ones I created (one of which he uses… for one of the generics, so we've got tens of thousands of anonymous people wearing the emperor's crown…) are public domain.

There may be one or two more that I couldn't find, but they're usable too.
DragonAtma
ModeratorPeng, that's essentially what happens when you manage to recruit a townsperson instead of an officer. Time to check that nobody has the wrong event!
DragonAtma
ModeratorErgh… here's hoping things become nonbumpy soon!
DragonAtma
ModeratorI strongly considered it, but I realized I'd wind up unconsciously lifting things for Destiny of Jin Xuan. :(
But once that's done…
DragonAtma
ModeratorCheck if they're a townsperson (i.e. not an officer), as recruiting one will definitely cause that problem.
DragonAtma
ModeratorSometime, you should send me the list of ~500 officers; I can add on any officers you missed that I think are important. Alternately, I can send the list of officers I used in another project.
DragonAtma
ModeratorUsing Sun Quan's portrait for generic rebel force, hmm? His descendants would have apoplexy! XD
