Sun Jian - 29. Chang Sha Strategy:

Here is your rare opportunity to control Wu with Sun Jian. First of all, realize that Sun Jian will die before the turn of the century (probably sooner) and you'll have to install Sun Ce (who also will die relatively early) and then Sun Quan. Fortunately you have some of the best southland generals and you should have no trouble with Liu Biao. Better yet, there is virtually no risk, and with Sun Jian you can get a solid force pretty earlier with his combination of military and political power.

The AI Sun Jian likes to sit in Chang Sha and build up, eventually spreading out to Wu Ling, Gui Yang, Ling Ling, etc once enough officers come. AI Sun Jian also tends to defeat Liu Biao more often than not and is usually a decent force to be reckoned with. Sun Jian starts off with decent generals but gets even better ones (Zhou Yu, Sun Ce, Lu Meng) later. Chang Sha is an absolute hotbed for officers in the later years and is decent (but no Chen Liu) in the early years.

Above you is Liu Biao, who has three cities to your one. Don't let that mislead you as his land mass is guarded by weak military officers and low-quality advisors. Upon starting your scenario with Sun Jian, immediately Spy on Jiang Ling just above you and recruit Cai Mao. If you can do it before the CPU moves Cai Mao from the Governor spot, you can have Jiang Ling easily. Even if you miss this opportunity to get the city in one fell swoop, you can still recruit Cai Mao and make good use of his soldiers (much like the Che Zhou or Zhu Jun situations).

With Cai Mao on your side, Liu Biao will be very weak in Jiang Ling and will have no cover for Chi Bi. Jiang Xia shouldn't be a problem either if you combine Cai Mao with your Chang Sha forces. You can then systematically take Chang Ban and then Xiang Yang, although you may have to organize your forces to effectively assault Xiang Yang. Chances are, Liu Biao will then be racing across northwest China as Yuan Shu, Dong Zhuo and / or Liu Yan will chase Biao's fleeing army.
