Start a new game and watch the opening scene. The rain is doused by the Flames of Judgment from the sky.
Sixteen years later, it is a nice day as Liana tells of the horror wrought on both countries from the war. Tobias and Menicks mention training with Sebastian. During these loading scenes you can see some general tips in the background along with the pictures.
Young Calvin grabs a few weapons and then you get to control Tobias over to the weapon rack for a Practice Sword and Practice Bow. After 5 attacks your skill level goes up.
More bullying from Menicks but Tobias confronts him. Notice how wide the axe attacks – it can hit multiple targets including an ally. Bow practice is next. As you see, going into action – weapon switches your weapon. Attack the dummy three times and your skill level goes up. Skill level went up two more times the next two hits as well.
Sebastian is ready to teach everyone magic. First, he has you get the treasure next to him – Book: Mobility. Time to use some magic on the dummies. Use Dark Star, a spell you may remember from Vandal Hearts I. The hex spell to use after this is Ensnare. Now use an Augment spell on an ally – Holy Shield or Bless Weapon. Last, cast a healing spell on a friend – either Heal, Cure, or Magic Shield.
Battle 1 – Bandit Ambush – Bandit Archer, Bandit Slasher (2)
You are then ambushed by some bandits. Notice you must keep both Tobias and Calvin alive, along with clearing all enemies. Menicks and Sebastian act as NPC’s and will charge the enemies with melee weapons, so stand back and use your arrows from the elevated ground (however, the Bandit Archer will counter you). Finish him off first before he retreats behind the two Bandit Slashers. Go ahead and use Dark Star or whatever you would like, as the two Slashers should be easy to surround and off. Do as much damage as you can to up your skills because Menicks will route them with his axe.
Unfortunately, enemies are all over town. Sebastian orders Tobias and Calvin to Devilsteel Garrison to call for reinforcements. You now get your 300 gold coin reward for the previous battle.
Scene with Calvin and Tobias afterward. Connor then shows up. Eleanor then screams over by the riverbed. You are then prompted to save in one of three slots, so do so. Then ‘leave camp’. Go towards the Dry Riverbed
Battle 2 – Dry Riverbed -Red Wolf (3), Blue Wolf (4)
The female screaming is not Eleanor, but still obviously must be saved.
Check Connor’s status. His core skills show that he is best as a melee fighter (like Tobias, but not as balanced). Calvin clearly is a magician at heart, attack from afar.
Rush ahead to engage the Wolves during turn 1, as the injured female must be saved quickly. Connor will go first and then get bombarded by three blue wolves, but he should do a fair amount of damage himself. The wolves then like to gang up on Calvin since he’s weak so try to pull out his sword if you can remember, just so that he can counter-attack. The female loses 12 HP each turn so you have a while, but you cannot heal her.
By the time the last red wolf comes by from the far end of the map, you should have the rest defeated. Just circle around the wolves and try to protect your backs from critical hits. You should gain about 760 Gold Coins from this battle.
Tobias will heal the female after the battle. Turns out the red-haired girl is Urdain. Her name is Altyria Jono. She joins with you though Connor just wants to get going. Save your game and leave camp.
Head on south to Devilsteel Garrison. Tell Gren that Tolby is being overrun by bandits. Luce comes out. You now have a decision to make, whether to keep her there or have her come with you. For reference I am choosing to bring her with.
Lots to buy here. You will have to pick and choose, but probably will want new bows and swords for Tobias and Calvin. Gave an axe to Connor and then some defensive equipment with the rest of the gold. You’ll have to make some choices as the funds are limited.
Dry Riverbed Skirmish (optional)
Now you fight over twice as many wolves as you did before, but you have three new characters now (assuming you brought Altyria with). Be aggressive in overwhelming these wolves before they all gang up on you. Still, Gren and Luce have near impregnable defenses so as long as you protect someone weak like Calvin you should be okay. Just use this battle as a means of furthering skills for each character and acquiring more Gold. Any gear you weren’t able to purchase before, you should be able to afford now.
Battle 3 – Town of Tolby –
As you get to Tolby, you see Eleanor. Looks like a big guy with a big weapon named Kelbrun is about to do something bad. He strikes Eleanor and Connor becomes enraged and leaves the party (acts as an NPC). You still must protect him along with Tobias, and defeat as many bandits as possible before confronting Kelbrun.
Connor starts the battle in a frenzy, mauling two enemies and moving on to a third. Push forward with your troops to keep up with him. Only 5 bandits start off, but several more join in after round 2 (including a Bandit Healer and Bandit Lt.). Round 3 yields more enemies (another Bandit Healer, Bandit Lt. and also a Bandit Mage). Should take you a few rounds to clear out most of these. At this point, Kelbrun will go after you himself. At the same time though, General Daldren Gray comes in. The battle becomes easy at this point, as Gray and the Golden Captains will terrorize the remaining bandits near that exit. Try to grab the Herb in the chest up the hill (where two bandits were, attacking villagers). Lots of gold comes your way for winning.
Luce and Daldren speak after the battle. Connor is still pissed about losing Eleanor after messing around waiting for Altyria. Connor does re-join the party after this though. Daldren then says it is time to counterattack the Urdain and the thugs they hired. Sebastian Horne, son of Baltus Horne, pledges to fight. Menicks Racine joins as well. You are reminded to head back for weapons if you so please. Liana speaks with you first.
Return to the Garrison. They have new weapons and armor; namely, a Long Bow, Ornate Hammer, Brigandine Armor, Brigandine Gorget, Master’s Cloak and the Master’s Cowl. Tobias, Luce, Calvin and Altyria can use the Long Bow, while the Ornate Hammer is good for Gren and maybe Connor.
Also, check out the Mess Hall. Like the bars of old Vandal Hearts, you can learn some important things (namely, that one guy hid in a tree in the Riverbed).
Riverbed – Optional Battle
More Wolves to beat up. This time, heed the advice of the man at the Garrison Mess Hall. See up the hill where there is a recess in the tree (looks like something females have). You want to bring a character over here, though it may be hard as you maul the enemies each time they attack. Use Paralysis to keep them at bay, or just cast Mobility on a few characters to get them to hurry up the hill and to that tree with the hole. Choose Action – Examine. You find a map with four Kings, pertaining to a place east of here.
Four Swordsmen Spring – Optional Treasure Map
Again, this battle surfaces after you search the tree with the opening at the Riverbed. Lots of bandits here, but nothing too difficult for your party. Do make a point of grabbing that treasure by the statues, the Graceblade.
Battle 4 – Fort Pelgaius
A golden trooper talks with Daldren. Then a strange young man named Shance comes into the picture.
The party then approaches the fortress of Kelbrun. Calvin slips up and causes a rock to smash the fortress, ruining their position. You will have to continue with the boulder-pushing to open up the gates. Once you push four boulders into that gate, it opens, and Kelbrun then comes down. He will charge you, but wait back and continue to slowly pick his forces off. Kelbrun’s charge will be a lonely one after that.
After Kelbrun charges out, mop up the rest of his forces that are trailing him. This should enable you to search the fort better. Notice the shiny weapon racks – one of them yields a Master’s Cowl, while the other one near the entrance has a Brigandine Gorget. Check the treasure chests for 800 Gold and a Master’s Cowl. Another rack in the far corner of the fort, which has another Brigandine Gorget. The well has a Master’s Cowl. I think we need more of these. At this point, just finish off Kelbrun.
The plot thickens after this. Just watch the scene.
Act Two – The Darkest Road
The group gathers themselves and even Altyria comes out of her shell and speaks. Turns out she was out and about because her village, Ven Aldekai, burned down.
Luce plans on heading to the King at Shumeria.
Battle 5 – Dreas Village – Hellhound Medic (2), Hellhound Mage (2), Hellhound Fist (6), Hellhound Ninja (2), Shance Aya
Check out the Shop of course. Save and then leave the village.
You are stopped by a Watchman. He says you are to lay down your weapons and submit to General Daldren Gray and the Golden Order. Shance Aya the Hellhound is here. The plan for the time being is to run east into the Dread Caverns. The Path of Unity should take us to Capital Shumeria.
Time to hurry, as the enemy approaches.
Do u plan on updating this walkthru? If not do u know where to get a full walkthru of this game
thank you
would really love an update on this walkthrough to help me with all the trophys
This game is pure trash and not to measure with the original games. It even doesn’t deserves a walktrough. Its an insult to me.
Well I never finished it if that’s a sign of anything. But I have played the original a few times since.
