The City In the Sky
You start off in the City in the Sky after you defeat the Twilit Dragon Argorok. Go to the south part and Clawshot into the cannon and you’ll be shot back to Lake Hylia.
Kakariko Gorge
Now that we have the Double Clawshot there are some things we can do. Warp to the Kakariko Gorge and as you get here you’ll probably get a letter from Shad, the Oocca’s and Purlo at the STAR Minigame in Hyrule Castle Town. We’ll go here in a second but first go to the west part of Kakariko Gorge.
You’ll see a caged area you can Clawshot on. Clawshot onto here and now since you have the Double Clawshot, Link can clawshot onto the grating on the other side of the wall and then onto the Ivy. Climb your way to the other side of the ivy and you’ll see a treasure, it is a Piece of Heart.
Hyrule Castle Town
Warp here and we’ll look into this Star Minigame. The Star Tent is on the west side of Hyrule Castle Town if you forget. Now that you have the Double Clawshot you can access the higher parts of this minigame.
Okay it’s still hard and you’ll want to Save so that you don’t continually waste 15 rupees. It shouldnt’ take too many times for you to get the hang of it. You have to get all the stars, and you have to be extremely efficient to do it within the given timeframe. Of course try to Clawshot into the most dense areas so that you get 4, 5, even 6 stars at a time. This much is rare but can happen easily at the beginning and then you’ll want to get a consistent 2 or 3 each time. Eventually it’ll get down there where you’re clawshotting around for them 1 at a time but just be fast and decisive and you’ll get them all. Since you’re a superstar now you get a Giant Quiver so you can have a whopping 100 Arrows!
Mirror Chamber
Teleport here. As you enter this area you’ll see a scene with the Mirror of Twilight. You’ll learn now from the Sages about Midna being the Twilight Princess. When you regain control run in front of the mirror and enter.
Palace of Twilight
You have teleported here. The things walking around here aren’t enemies as Midna points out. Take the west door.
In this room you’ll have some Keese and Deku Baba’s to destroy, and a Zant Mask type creature that sends fireballs your way. To kill these guys you’re going to have to use a Shield Attack to reflect their fire shots and then follow up with a Jump attack or regular attacks to kill them. A Small Key treasure pops up afterwards. Clawshot north and go through the north locked door now.
Go north and drop down and you’ll turn into Wolf Link when you enter the black area. Use you Senses to see and you can find a Mask of Zant lurking around. A charge attack from Wolf Link can kill it. Once it’s dead, two treasures appear – a Compass to the south and a Small Key to the north. Clawshot your way up the platform and to the southeast part of the room for an Orange Rupee. Back to the north end of the room to pass through the locked door.
You are now fighting an Image of Zant. He likes to summon monsters, specifically Keese and Deku Babas. Kill off these monster and then you’ll see Zant telelport all over the area. You’ll want to catch him when he’s about to summon some monsters (he’ll be preparing for it) and then lock on and Jump Attack him. If you kill all the monsters and then just look around really fast and make sure you Jump attack him before he summons, he may never get off any more monsters. After the fight he releases some darkness.
You are by Sol. It illuminates this world. Attack the hand and then pick up the Sol. Run back with it and it’ll eliminate the fog. When you leave, the hand will turn into one of those horrible creatures, the Wall Masters. Quickly place the Sol in the center indentation and a bridge appears. Go to the top of it and then Clawshot the Sol quick and run out. If you don’t the Wall Master may reclaim the Sol but you can shoot arrows at it if you want.
In this next room run south and the Wall Master will come through the wall! Clearly this thing will follow you. Continue south and you’ll see a bunch of Shadowlings again so dispatch them and put the Sol in the indentation. Quickly look back and shoot the Wall Master three times to stun it, then run up the stairs.
At the top, shoot the Wall Master three more times to stun it again and then clawshot the sol. Throw the Sol up the ledges as you go south, and you’ll get to more Shadowlings. Kill them and shoot the Wall Master again and go through the south door (dropping down to get there).
Of course the thing follows you in here too. Take a right and throw it on the west ledge and go this way. Clawshot up and get one of the last Pieces of Heart in the game. Get ready to show off your dodging skills. First of all, the Wall Master is probably just waiting for you outside so when you throw the Sol back into the middle of the room, prepare to shoot three arrows at the Wall Master to stun him. Grab the Sol now and run south, dodging Deku Babas and Shadowlings if you can. If you get hit you’ll drop the Sol so be prepared to get it back (shooting the Wall Master again too).
You are now on the exterior. Go up the bridge and you’ll see Twili return to their normal state around the Sol. In the center you can place the Sol in one of the spots – one more Sol and we can see Zant! Go east and step on the glowing green square and it’ll take you east. Get off and go north and through the door.
In this room you’re going to want to Clawshot onto that ceiling target and then drop down on the floating platform. Jump across to a normal platform and as you go north you’ll see 4 more floating platforms. A Zant Mask is here too so try to get close enough to it to kill it – it’ll reveal a Small Key treasure right by a 50 rupee treasure. Just go through the locked north door now.
Run ahead and into the twilight to be a Wolf again. Kill the three Shadow Beings and then you’ll have to kill several of the Zant Masks and a treasure is revealed. Go to the north and Clawshot north and then you can look around and Clawshot around the ceiling, getting treasures. The treasure that appeared was a small Key on the east part of the room and on the west is the Dungeon Map for the Palace of Twilight. The other chests have rupees but I’ve had rupees maxed out for some time so…Go through the locked north door.
Another Zant Image in this room. You know the drill – attack it when it begins to summon creatures (or in this phase, throw fireballs your way as well). This one also sent a bunch of Shadow Beings at me. Once he’s taken enough Jump attacks get the Sol again and use the same strategy (put Sol in center – run up bridge – Clawshot Sol -exit). This time there is a shadow being and several Shadowlings to bother you.
Run to the centyer and place the Sol in there. Kill the Shadowlings and Shadow Being and then run back to the beginning and Clawshot your way up. That’s the only way you can go on the raised platform now. Clawshot the Sol from the top and then exit via dropping down south and then the door.
In this room the Wall Master is right on your ass. Quickly drop the Sol and shoot the Wall Master three times. Get past the four light platforms going left to right, and if you fall then you’ll have to continue south and ride an elevator up. Your goal is between those two glowing orbs. They will make another light platform that takes you to the door south – Keese go after you along the way so carefully elude them. Enter the south door.
Bring the Sol over and put it in the other hole (right the light platform over). Once this happens you get the Light Sword.
Go to the previous room now that you have the Light Sword. You can cut through the darkness on the lower part of this first east room – an elevator appears on the southwest and southeast – the southeast leads to a Piece of Heart cove and the southwest has a Purple Rupee. Leave this area now (light the two orbs with your sword to create the light platform again).
Now you can continue north in this room, fighting off the darkness with your sword. There are Shadow Bird enemies around here too. The big fog after them can be lifted by a spin attack but hurry because it comes back.
North through the door and now you’re in another room where you head north. Fight through the enemies and the fog and at the opposite end of the room you can see two Sol. Take them and throw them to the left and right and you’ll see the indentations when you use the Light Sword. Climb up the ramp and then hit the orb to light it and get on the light platform. Take this to the east ledge and kill all of the Zant Masks in the way. Get the treasure (Small Key) that emerges. Go to the three Orbs and Spin attack all three, and a light platform appears that takes you to the upper west door. It is locked so use your Small Key.
Lots of enemies up here, Shadow Birds and Beings. To to the west ledge and kill the Shadow Being and then light both orbs. Take the light platform to the south unattached part of the room. Kill a Zant Mask here and hit the orbs again and then you’ll be on a light platform going back. Lots of Zant Masks to kill around here probably around 6 of them. When they are all dead, a Small Key appears. There is still something to do here though. See to the east where there is a treasure on the map (thanks to the Compass) well you can get east with a Spin Attack and then an immediate Clawshot on the target on the wall. Then start doing a bunch of Clawshot’s with your Double Clawshot until you get to the top (beware Shadow Birds). The Boss Key for Palace of Twilight is here. Go through the door on the northeast now.
In this room go north to begin a battle against four Shadow Beings. Quickly dispatch them and then go to where there are four orbs and do a spinning attack to get an elevator to appear. Take it up and you’ll see four new light platforms appear – jump to the west one on the minimap and then take that until two more platforms appear. Take the northern-most one and this will go near a platform that you can get to if you jump west.
Now kill the Deku Baba here and jump north and right this platform until you can Clawshot the wall. Kill the Zant Mask and then get back on that Clawshot Target. You’ll see another target on the ceiling so get here and lower yourself onto the higher light platform. Take this back to the other side and Clawshot that way and then you have another Zant Mask to kill. After he dies a Small Key can be procurred. A new light platform opens up and you can take it until you get go through a Locked Door to the north.
Go north through the fog and Shadow Beings and you’ll be at the Boss’ door.
Usurper King Zant is here to kill you once and for all. You get a lot of backstory here. Zant will then teleport you through lots of past stages you’ve played, beginning at the Diabada area in Forest Temple. He shoots fireballs at you fast and you can either sidestep them or block them. He disappears and then reappears to do the same thing shortly thereafter. The trick is to start moving away from him right away but throw the Gale Boomerang before he shoots at you and then move away and it’ll hopefully hit him and stun him. He’ll fall and then bounce towards you on land. Pull your sword out and L Target him and get ready for several Jump attacks. Repeat this and you’ll find yourself in a fight in the area in Goron Mines that you fought Biggoron.
Have your Iron Boots on right when this switches so you don’t fall off from his stomping. This one is actually pretty easy – you may be better off just not having Iron Boots on at all since after about 4 stomps he starts shooting fireballs at you again and you’ll need to dodge these and then attack him while he rests for a few seconds. It’s better to just not have the boots on because you don’t have to waste time taking them off and instead you can start attacking him right at the end of his fireball session, getting off about 4 or 5 jump attacks. He’ll teleport soon after to the water where you fought Morpheel.
Of course have the Zuna Tunic on (I always wear it for some reason, despite it being weak against fire / ice) and then the Iron Boots too. In this battle you’ll see huge Masks of Zant that come up from the ground. More of them come out as you do damage to Zant. Anyway, you’ll want to look into these Masks to see which one has Zant and then dodge his fireballs and quickly Clawshoot him to you and start Jump Attacking until he teleports and repeats.
You are now where you fought the Baboon in Forest Temple. Run around with him and dodge his fireball attacks – then roll two times into his pillar and he’ll fall down. Begin the jump attacks and a few times and he’s gone.
Now you’re in Snowpeak Ruins. Run around on the ice and giant Zant will try to fall on you. When he misses, get that Ball and Chain out and begin to hit his foot – try to time it right so that he doesn’t step on your head. He’ll begin to hop around and shrink smaller than he is. Try to hit him as quick as possible because if you don’t he gets big again (and after you get some attacks on him he’ll turn big again). Continue this until he’s done.
Now you’re in Hyrule Field in what will likely be the final battle. He has knives now that he attacks you with – try to side jump around him then Jump Attack him. After this though he’ll start spinning at you and you’ll need to be very quick to elude him – still, he’ll likely get you a few times, but just make sure you’re ready for when he winds down and pauses for like 5 seconds afterwards – get your Jump Attacks in. Now he’ll start mixing his attacks up but just catch him when you can get behind him or when he’s stopped. You’ll eventually get Zant and when you do he’ll go on about Ganon and how he’ll be revived. Get your Heart Piece (should be your 20th) and then have Midna warp you out (step on the yellow floor switch to the south). You’re now back at the Mirror Chamber in Hyrule.
There shouldn’t be much left for you to do here in Hyrule. There is one thing that you can complete though (and could have done earlier) and it is the Cave of Ordeals.
Gerudo Mesa Cave of Ordeals
Warp here and it’s right by you. Enter and you’ll begin a huge set of trials pitting you against all sorts of monsters.
There are fifty floors in all here. In turn there are 5 Great Fairy’s that you meet and after you talk to each one, they will send Fairies out to different areas of Hyrule. You can also talk to them to exit if you’d like.
This is some of the hardest fighting in the entire game, if not the toughest. Several things to keep in mind. To get through the entire thing, you’ll want all of your bottles full of healing supplies. Having 1000 Rupees helps and the Magic Armor is a must. How you utilize your Magic Armor is paramount in you succeeding.
The real tough fights get to when you’re at about floor 30 and higher. Then you begin to come across many Gibdos, Ice Warriors, Giant Freezards, Dinolfols, Dragon Knight and Dark Nuts. The last two floors in particular come to mind as extremely difficult, with two Dragon Knights and a Dark nut on floor 49 and on the last floor there are three Dark Nuts. Sheesh. Even with a well timed Magic Armor usage you’re going to have trouble with these two floors.
There are also three Poes in the Cave of Ordeals. One on floor 17, one on floor 34, and one on floor 44. For Leevers, Mini Stalfos, Bubbles and rats use Spin Attacks. Use Ball and Chain on Freezards, Ice Warriors, and Stalfos. Use Wolf Link to bite the Gibdos. Dark Nuts and Dinolfols require hand to hand skill (basically, dodge left to right (and back) and then counterattack at the rare openings).
After going through all 50 floors you receive the Great Fairy Tears and then are transported back to Lake Hylia Lanayru spring.
Hyrule Castle Town
Time to warp here and finish things up. Jovani will give you a Silver Rupee for getting all the poes for him (if you got all 60).
North from the central square and you’ll get a scene with Midna and a path to Hyrule Castle will open up. Go through it north and push through the doors and you’ll be in a courtyard type area. Go to the northwest door and you’ll be blocked – kill all the birds and Bokoblins and then go through the door.
You’ll have to work your way northwest now and fight through some more Bokoblins. Now go northwest and pull the chain to open the door. In the northeast is King Bulblin and he’s exactly like he was the last battle – Slow and strong. Dodge his attacks and do some Jump Attacks and regular combos to put him down. He gives you a Small Key and rides off. Get a Red Rupee chest and then return to the courtyard and this time go through the northeast (not northwest) door.
For this area you’re going to need to clear the Archer’s posts with a Ball and Chain or a boar. First of all get one of the boars in the west part of the area and then take it east and charge through any fences. In the northwest you’ll reach a gate and if you Gale Boomerang the ground where the leaves are you’ll reveal a pattern. Alright well go east and south a little towards the pillars. Face west and lock onto the west-most pillar, and then the one to your right and then left, and finally the one behind you and those four will open the gate. Grab the Dungeon Map.
You’re on a raised area so take it south and into the main courtyard area. From here go west a little so you can take the exit going northeast (it leads to one room). Enter this large room and a bunch of Bokoblins and Lizalfos will need to be killed. After this a Compass appears and then you can Clawshot onto the Chandelier, drop down and grab it. Clawshot from this chandelier to the north one and through the door (lower the Clawshot to reach the second chandelier).
In this room a Dark Nut is your opponent so kill him. Now you have some freedom. Throw your Gale Boomerang at the Torch to stop the fire and then a ramp near the treasure will appear. If you throw the Gale Boomerang and get on the ramp you can go up and get the Purple Rupee. Go east through the door.
Get your Lantern out. Shoot the picture near the south door and you’ll see the order that you have to light the lanterns. If you’re facing south, light the one in front and to the right of you and then behind you and to the left. Then light the one behind you and to the right and then in front of you and to the left. That should be all four and the gate should open – go through.
Kill the two Dinolfols and go through the southeast door. Continue southeast and you’ll be gated in and you’ll have to defeat a Dragon Knight with your Clawshot. Now go through and get the Small Key and return back but this time go to the southwest corner. It seems you’ll have to deal with Bokoblin Archers and Lizalfos but your friends Shad and others help you out. Get the Boss Key. Go to the south middle and enter the locked door.
Have Wolf Link out for the first part of this. there are a lot of Undead Rats and also you can see Ghosts with your senses – you want to follow these ghosts until you get to a stairwell. Have Wolf Link jump up this with a running jump to ensure he makes these jumps. At the top are two Lizalfos that you must defeat and then go up further for two more Lizalfos (except this time you’ll have to Clawshot the torch gratings to get up). Now you get to ride up spinner up the stairs but jump from one side to the next to avoid the spikes – at the top is a Dark Nut. Dodge his attacks and kill him and you’ll have two doors. Go through the south door.
You are at the top of Hyrule Castle now but the Chapel. Save and go up. Ganondorf is here to talk some shit. When you gain control you begin to fight an evil Zelda, Ganon’s Puppet Zelda. This battle is very simple – Evil Zelda will either use a flying sword attack that can be dodged or blocked, or she can use an area-based attack that damages you or she can throw a Yellow Ball at you. This Yellow Ball can be reflected back with your sword to hit her – if you’re too far away she’ll hit it back at you until one of you misses – get closer and you’re more apt to hit her. Do it three times and she’s restored back to her normal self.
Don’t celebrate quite yet. Dark Beast Ganon is here. Ganon looks like a huge hog. At first the battle begins like Ganondorf in Forest Temple / Ocarina of Time. He chooses a teleport to come through and once it turns blue, shoot an arrow and you can knock him down. Now go up to him and start Jump Attacking and whatnot on his white belly (his weakness). He’ll get up and run around and do this again. Eventually he starts to dodge your arrows when he teleports. Instead change to Wolf Link and when he charges at you, hold A to have Midna grab Ganon. Now twist the stick left to right and back and forth and you’ll flip the boar Ganon. Go to his bell and start chewing on it and eventually that’ll be it for Dark Beast Ganon.
Zelda is restored after this battle. Now you begin in Hyrule Field with Zelda on Epona with Link. Your job is to keep close to Ganondorf here and when you are close enough to Dark Lord Ganondorf be sure to have him L-targetted as you can then have Zelda shoot him with a light arrow. He will be stunned from the Light Arrow and you can go in and get a Spin Attack. Do this three times and he’s gone. Watch out for the Phantoms he sends at you and he’ll also change direction quickly at times (not to mention his horse is fast as hell).
Dark Lord Ganondorf now fights you on foot. As you can imagine he is the top sword user in the game and he is both quick and powerful (and his sword has great reach). Try to spin behind him and then just start attacking. He has a ton of HP so you’ll need lots of combos (preferably jump attacks but they’re harder to get off and he tends to block these). He’ll then start to disappear and try to jump on you, so roll away from this. You may get in a tapping duel with him – if you tap A as fast as you can. After you’ve done enough damage (it’ll be a while) you get the option to do an Ending Blow
and you can then kill Dark Lord Ganondorf and the ending begins. Midna returns to her initial form and more things happen (I won’t spoil anything else). Enjoy it.
I cant kill the shadow beings a a wolf, I press b and hold and let go they fall down but then get up again. What am I doing wrong
midna breaks the mirror after the 1st set of credits
How do I get this horse to jump?
