What amazing times – over 15 years ago when we were just starting to figure out how to mess with Destiny of an Emperor. We were happy just to be able to have them gain soldiers at levels. Didn’t know about taking the billeting flag off so we resorted to killing off Zhang Fei/Guan Yu and playing with a 5 person army.
This mod could be updated easily with the new tools we have just to make some basic upgrades, but this is still a cool challenge actually. Kill off Zhang Fei/Guan Yu/Zhuge Liang so they aren’t used (since they can’t be put in billeting). Can only use the made-up guys who now gain soldiers – Song Yong, Song Ren, Yang Jin, Wang Gui, Zhou Chao and Huo Hu, as well as some others like Chen Deng, Mi Zhe, Guan Ping, Liu Feng, Zhou Cang. I try to leave the latter three out as they are too good imo. Even with Huo Hu jacked up to proper stats, the rest of the crew is rough.
Zhou Chao at 140 strength is like a God compared to the other guys you gotta use.

The game is harder too – James upgraded a lot of the other officers like Jia Xu here.

I had thought that DoaE forces you to put Zhu Ge Liang in your active party before you enter Shu. Actually though if you recruit Zhuge at Gui Yang with a full party, he goes in the billeting and you can continue on. But once you get to Cheng Du, Liu Bei forces you to put Zhuge in the active party. That is fine though because Zhang Fei/Guan Yu go off at this point, so it is easy enough to just kill off Zhuge and have a 5 or 6 person army (not recruiting Guan Xing/Zhang Bao).

Ji Zhou battle isn’t too tough…helps doing the Jing Zhou region first though to acquire some Swords and additional levels. Li Jian can get used on Lu Bu to help big time.

The battle for Cheng Du. Was pretty tough but actually the battle at Fu Shui was the hardest because Fa Zheng has Ji Rou, Fu Bing, and a bunch of other nasty tactics. Side note, I really dislike when Wan Fu replaces Yin Xian – at some point Yin Xian gets obsolete once you have 5000+ soldiers but early-on Wan Fu sucks, it is expensive and only heals one guy. Kinda crappy when you only have 2000-some soldiers, better to be able to use Yin Xian but it adds to the challenge I guess.
