Suikoden 3 III FAQ

About 3-4 years after Suikoden II…and Suikoden III came out for the PS2. It was a landmark RPG for the system and for Suikoden, as the first two were very similar but this one strayed from that path quite a bit. Some would argue for the worse, while some thought it was better.

In battle, it was still 6 allies but now you could have a support member that did various things (act as a rune master, or heal your party after each battle). However those 6 allies in battle were PAIRED, which complicated the battle system somewhat. It made you think as to how you would pair your allies as you are only allotted one non-regular-attack (eg you can use an item or rune spell with one of the characters while the other part of the pair attacks).

The world map of Suikoden I and II is gone, in favorite of a node-to-node map for traveling. However traveling is arguably more tedious in this one, as you have to traverse the same Yaza Plains, Zexen Forest, etc over and over. Suikoden III added treasure bosses in some of the major caves, which are great for leveling up or acquiring potch / unique items.

But Suikoden III really aced the Trinity Site System. Instead of a silent hero, you get to see the viewpoint of three different main characters, with Hugo of the Grasslands, Chris of the Zexen Knights and Geddoe from the Harmonian Defense Forces. Other minor characters like Thomas and Koroku have their own viewpoint and there is a secret sixth one if you get all 108 Stars of Destiny!
