okay, i’ll give this shot, in case i’ve missed any myself. what are the best games per console you guys have ever played?
i almost missed chrono trigger before; love to know if there any other gems out there…
I only play PS2. But I have played my fair shares of other games.
Sega Gene – Street Fighter II
Gamecube – Super Smash Bros Melee
PS2 – Basically Rotk 8 – 11, as well as 4 Wall of Fire. Way of the Samurai 1 & 2. And all the Street Fighter Alpha games. III Strike is pretty good too.

civ 3 for pc is probably the best i’ve ever played.
doae is definate for the nes!!
SNES– Ogre battle
NES– is DOAE1 and 2, and the dragon warrior games, mainly 4
SEGA– is warsong, shining force and phantasty star
PS1–Tactics ogre and legend of the dragoon plus the persona games.
Ps2–Romance games, and Persona 3, and ring of red.
XBOX–dead or alive

It’s definitely one of my favorite games. Warsong and DOAE were the two games I’ve always liked but nobody knows about :P
Did you ever try Der Langrisser? It’s the sequel we never got, it was fan-translated a few months ago.
As far as some of the best games per console…
NES – Crystalis, DOAE, Dragon Warrior 4, Clash at Demonhead
Gen – Warsong, SF games, Gunstar Heroes
SNES – Crono Trigger, FF6, Der-Lang
PSX – FF7, Persona, Xenogears, Suiko2, Wild Arms
PS2 – Suiko3, Persona 3
It’s a boring list, but I’ve found most of the popular games are also still good. Sometimes they’re overrated, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still be good :)
suikoden 3 was very impressive! the only one i’ve played of the series. loved the building up idea of thomas’ castle, very original!
clash at demonhead, eh? i remember seeing that and thinking that it looked both cheaply made and bad. guess i might’ve been wrong.
i’ll never forget the arcade part of ff7. that took my breath away. it was the most original and fun "sidequest" i had ever seen up to that point, and possibly still the best!
persona is good, too, huh? sigh…maybe i should back track and get the first one first. would that be the way to go?
Ring of red is like a stretegy game(shining force style) with mechs and is based in like world war 2, very good game, good story, nice characters.
And der langrisser is also awesome, I played back when it got translated to the end, never could get to far cause I couldn’t read the japanese, I have pretty much played every rpg/strategy game that has ever been posted on the internet, well at least most of them.
Persona 1 is hard to find. Honestly, it’s good, but I don’t know if I’d pay $100 to get it again. Sort of like Valkyrie Profile.
Persona 2’s easier to find, but I didn’t like it as much… then again that’s a discussion that’s been back and forth on this forum already ;)
Clash at Demonhead is good in its terribleness. It’s a decent platform/adventure, but it also has every single anime cliche ever. Aliens, demons, robots and secret agents all make an appearance. I can’t tell whether they were mocking these cliches or just trying to make the most badass and complicated story possible for an action game.
Doesn’t matter. More of the references in P3 are to P2 anyway, and it’s pretty much all side stuff.
Supposedly all of the games take place along the same timeline, but the events aren’t interconnected… yet :P
Chieftain: the more recent patch translates the other routes as well (Light was the only path translated in the first one), and they are loads of fun, especially Independent. I actually haven’t played said patch, because I beat Der Langrisser in two of the paths last year to practice my japanese (it actually helped my kanji skillz a bunch).
Yeah the last patch of derlangrisser i played had all but the chaos patch translated, I played through it anyway and just didn’t read anything, the partch I played didn’t have kanji at all, When the spot wasn’t translated it wsas just blank, it would show the face and the box and the box was just empty.
The only advantage to playing the other persona’s is that you understand how dark and strange most of the game and characters are.
