I was playing through DOAE 2.0 and I found that the Iron Ore was missing. Is this a deliberate absence to increase difficulty or is this a glitch?
In my guide I have always advised people to restart immediately when an item turns up missing. In the past while people have discovered that if you fight x random battles sometimes the glitch reverses itself. I was wondering what experiences people have had with that fix? How many random battles? Does it always work? Does the problem come back later once it has already happened? I have also never personally encountered the missing Iron Ore glitch. Does it go hand-in-hand with other missing items (e.g. the sword under the Pang Tong look-a-like’s feet) or is it stand-alone? Can it also be fixed by fighting random battles?

Participanti have encountered similar glitches, but not the iron ore one. it has made me scrap the whole project and start over. it is too difficult to go through every thing to figure out the one stat that caused it…

I’ve wondered about what possible sequence triggers this. I’m even more curious about what sequences cause the various in-town officers through Dong Zhuo’s region to appear or disappear. What is very strange, to me, is that sometimes they are around in my games and sometimes they are not. These days there isn’t a whole lot of variation in the way I play.
Still, it would be nice to provide better information about this glitch.

KeymasterI dunno I saw this topic and was trying to think…I know the Iron Ore issue happened to me but it was long ago (not emulator, on my cartridge)…and I had to start over but I can’t remember if any other items were missing….
One thing I do think about the treasure glitches is that they don’t correlate with eachother at all….like sometimes the Scimitar in the Hui Ji Fortress isn’t there….or the sword in front of Pang Tong…but usually it’s only one of those occurrences each time through. Same with the characters like Wang Gui and Zhou Chao…though through my various play throughs I’d say Wang Gui is there 66% of the time and Zhou Chao 25% at Chang An….likewise, Guo Ji (Guo Si) is rarely ever at that Luo Yang gate, probably 10% of my play throughs or less.
As for fighting the random battles part to fix it…I dunno I haven’t heard of that nor have I seen it work.

ParticipantYour experiences have been somewhat similar to my own, with the possible exception of patterns. When the sword under the Pang Tong lookalike vanishes, for example, the Halberd and two ‘magical’ swords, along with other specific treasures, have always vanished in my games. It helped that this was the only vanishing item bug I have ever personally encountered (mostly back on my cartridge) and I played through a few times before I figured out that it was essentially game over.
I’ve seen people report the fighting those random encounters fixed the vanishing item glitch, and others have suggested even that it might play a role in spawning a second Red Hare. I haven’t tested the second Red Hare because the first time I ever thought to go back and pick it up was after you reported having found one (and I did indeed find another!)
Thanks for your thoughts.

ParticipantYou CAN play around these game-stopping issues if you just go to the next boss. Use a Game Genie code to walk on water/mountains and just go fight the next person in line, which in the Iron Ore’s case…would be the next Shu castle, OR the first battle in Wu…the battle before you fight Zhou Yu :P
Sometimes a little cheating can save your game ;)

Interesting. I need to refresh my memory, now. How does not getting the Iron Ore hinder your game? At what point are you stopped up? And if you bypass that event, would you still get the swords? Well… I suppose you would. I doubt Capcom coded those events and chests to only populate after the blacksmith’s goods are stolen.
I read once that someone couldn’t get the Saltpeter. That would be an interesting problem… you could walk across the mountain with the Game Genie but would the game automatically remove the mountain afterward?

Participantif you don’t get the ore, what would the 5 swords be? i bet you don’t even need it…

Liu Bei commands you to speak to the blacksmith later on. Would he give you the line about having lost the swords if you never gave him the ore? Would Liu Bei have a bridge created between Wu and Jingzhou? I’m sure the chests and such would still be populated, but it might suck losing that bridge…

Participanthe does order you to see the blacksmith before the assassinations, eh? well, no one has ever complained about this besides you, right? maybe it happens as much as the sword glitch near pang tong…

Participanti got codes you can use to get the iron ore immediately, but you need access to ar codes a la jnes…
sorry….i know no one uses jnes…
March 3, 2008 at 1:31 am #33476Xian Zhu Xuande
ParticipantIs it a JNES code, or is it a Game Genie code?
Other emulators can use Game Genie codes.
And I’ve never encountered this myself. Others have.

Participantit’s an action replay code. i could not find an item code for the game genie, sadly…
