ModeratorDOAE Lu Bu Mod is complete and I am currently Beta testing. Niahak's tools have really been a great help but there are a few things I might need some help with.
1. To make an epic mod, I wanted epic weapons. If someone knew how to change the Dadao's for sale to Halberd's @ a price of 250,000 that would be great. I thought this would ease the final battles for those who want to grind to afford them.
2. If someone knew how to add stuff to the credits or opening title screen where I could stamp a name on it, that would also be great :)
3. I might want to change a portrait, but Dragon Atma is on vacation >_<, but can't decide atm.
4. Is there a way to increase the cap on Un-Ansha-able officers? I think it is capped at 7 or 8 atm.
If I have any more ideas of things I'd like to change that I am unable to do myself, I will post it here, but I'm just aiming and putting the word out now. The mod is turning out to be really great I think <– shameless self-plug

ModeratorI can do 1 and 3.
For 1 you'll need to use a hex editor. I've done this before. Just have to remember how to do it. Will get back to u.

Is this mod using any of the newer techniques like changing the map and moving towns around? If so that'd be super cool.

Moderator1. Unfortunately, I just don';t have the time and energy to dot hat; Atma has been busy working on Gemfire and RoTK2.
2. You'll need a programmer for that.
3. I'm on vacation? Why was I not informed!? Note to self: fire my nonexistant secretary.
4. Tragically, they only assigned eight slots for unanshaable and eight more for unbilletable. If you want that increased, again, you'll need a programmer.
…of coruse, if you're feeling extra-jerkish you could always set An Sha to be learned at level 255 and restrict it to only a couple CPU-only officers, but…

Moderatorah, thanks MidKnight for the info and bumping the posts as well. Since my hex editing skills are not up to snuff .I'm glad for the help.
I did work with some of the editing of the tiles for the maps, however it was only limited to changing semi-exploitable areas, particularly beneath Chang An. As far as editing interior cells, for cities and caves I'm going to have to wait on Niahak to update on that unless I can level up my skills in programming (don't hold your breathe), in addition to the fact that interiors are in a whole seperate dimension from the overworld maps.
I've only had experience editing DOAE for about 2 weeks now so i'm still a newbie with most of this. I've finally got the text editor down to where I dont get errors after every dialogue edit :P
Ah well, I'll just work around the un-ansha-ables. thanks for the info though
Im really trying to bring a new level of gameplay to this mod unlike some other DOAE mods which just make your weapons like sticks and the enemies like tanks/ nerf warriors and make strategists like demi-gods.
After I finish up my second run-through with just fixing up dialogue and balancing issues, let me know when I can email you the .nes file to make those last changes and see if they work.
E for effort DA, thanks for getting back to me on that. Next time I'll just have my imaginary people contact your imaginary people and they'll do lunch or something….

ModeratorOkay, so fill me in MidKnight, where can I upload a zip file so that you can help me modify the weapons. Im going to scatch changing portraits around atm. I'm not sure how to work with those .bz files and whatnot, are those linux or something? anyways, i just pieced together some portraits to make extra people, so everyone can use their imagination :) If youd prefer, email me at sonic.penguin@gmail.com and I'll send you you the .nes via that way if you'd prefer. (don't spam me everyone!)

ModeratorBy "modify weapons" do you mean the weapon names or changing what is sold in the weapon shop? Either option would require some hex editing and me trying to remember how to do it. (I did both in the Yuan Shao mod).

Moderatorchanging Dadao -> Halberd and price from 65k -> 250k. So both I guess. I figure that by this point in the game, Dadao's don't really do anything compared to the special swords which essentially nerf's their use and shop space. Plus I want to make the game easier for some people :)

ModeratorKeep in mind that prices may very well be assigned only two bytes… which would mean a maximum possible price of 65,535 gold. It'd be a pain and a half to increase that further.

FYI, I found where the weapon names are stored. In the FCE Ultra emulator I opened the hex editor, used the doaetable.tbl from Niahak's tool, and found the names here starting at 02FC00:

I seem to remember a post somewhere about manipulating experience. Maybe the same can be done with money.
