SquareEnix has trademarked Chapters of the Chosen, likely for the release of Dragon Quest IV DS later on.

May 21, 2008 at 8:22 am #34509Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterSure enough, a month later

DQIV for the DS is coming September 16th 2008.
I haven’t gotten much use out of my DS…with this and FFIV in July, it looks like that will change.

May 27, 2008 at 7:11 am #34511Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI actually stopped FES for a DW IV detour on my actual NES…it’s much more balanced since I don’t use save states to win poker and get a ton of Metal Babble Shields early on like I would on an emulator. But I’m already on Chapter 5 :)

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 27, 2008 at 7:56 pm #34512thechieftainParticipantThere is a sixth chapter now too I’ve read.
Supposedly saro comes back and joins u in a new quest to revive rosa. not sure how true this is though
September 17, 2008 at 3:04 am #34513Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHmm.
Guess I’m going to find out about that potential chapter 6.
Playing through Ragnar’s quest tonight. Didn’t get that far, too much other stuff to tend to.
Not sure about the translation and I’m not just talking about the spelling changes. Kind of funny at times but it can be annoying to have to read this a few times to make sure you’re understanding their dialect.
The game feels a little easier so far…Ragnar’s HP in particular seems high. Also, the world map / caves feel pretty small.
Digging the animations with the enemies, and the game definitely feels faster now that loading / walking around does not take as much time.
Definitely pleased with this. Will be looking forward to getting through Ragnar’s and maybe Alena’s quest tomorrow.
May fortune smile upon thee.

I was feeling like ragnar had way too many hit points, gaining like 8 or 9 a level. I do like it alot, but its just a remake so I’ll automatically love the original more. I do think though, just like final fantasy 2(4) that the 2d graphics actually look better for some reason, maybe the ds is just too small for good size 3d.
September 20, 2008 at 3:46 am #34515DragonAtmaModeratorI’ll stick with the NES version.
September 20, 2008 at 4:14 pm #34516Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterRagnar’s HP is definitely higher in this one. But his agility is much worse, I remember him being competitive in that at least early on in his Chapter but I was always going last with him…
Just burning through this damn game, in Chapter 5 already and defeated Keeleon aka Marquis de Leon.
The menu and battle speed on the DS version are handy. Especially for Taloon’s quest (having a bigger inventory makes it so much more tolerable now). Besides that, I definitely miss the NES version. In the DS version as I may have said before the scaling is weird so the world map and towers / caves feel like you just fly through them. Plus there’s the matter of Towers / Caves being able to see the entire floor almost when you can just look at the top DS screen too, so it more or less gives away what is where. Not to mention DQIV DS doesn’t black out different areas where treasures or dead ends are (and in DWIV NES you almost always fought enemies when you’d go through to a new blacked out area).
Bosses have been easier too. Saro’s Shadow was a decent challenge with Ragnar and Marquis de Leon killed me when I fought him at level 15 or so. But Alena’s tournament in Chapter 2 was cake, as was the Balzack fight in Chapter 4 and the lighthouse roof-top battle.
One thing that sucks (or is kinda cool in that you can’t abuse it) is that Metal Babble Armor (now Liquid Metal Armor or something) now costs 35000 Gold instead of 15000 Gold. I mean shit, I can’t be bothered to get more than one of those now and will plop it on Ragnar and then just have the Hero keep the Zenithian Armor which is a bit weaker I think…
The dialogue is fleshed out much more now even though there is no party talk which was in the Japanese version and accounted for almost 50% of the character development supposedly…the accents can be weird but oh well, it’s kind of unique. Makes me take the characters less seriously kinda, like Orin (Oojam now)…I used to think of him as a badass but he just looks like an goof now and talks like one.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingSeptember 23, 2008 at 6:04 pm #34518thechieftainParticipantI finished the game at 36 hero 38 alena, 38 kiryl, and 38 borya/sparkie
I am working on the optional dungeon now?
did u find out how to start the immigrant town lord? i missed it so i have to replay the game now but thats cool. I think i will just resart and do the optional dungeon on playthrough too,
September 23, 2008 at 6:40 pm #34519Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea I didn’t do the immigrant town either. Haven’t played this for a bit but I just have to destroy the barriers and go in for Necrosaro. I’m also looking forward to another play through soon, definitely will be doing a run through of this before FFIV DS since DQIV just isn’t as tedious in some parts, it flows very nice. I might play the Dragon Warrior NES version of it though :) we’ll see, maybe DS version.
