Destiny of an Emperor Rise of Ieyasu Mod 2.0 by Sonic Penguin
Destiny of an Emperor; Rise of Ieyasu 2.0 Download
FCE Ultra Emulator Download Page
Use FCE Ultra 2.1.5 Emulator or above for BEST compatibility.
Winner of the following 2012 Huo Hu Awards:
ROM of the Year: Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
Runner up: Yuan Shao's Revenge (by MiDKnighT 2010-2012)This is the most complete mod I've ever played using most of the enhancements and techniques from the ROM hacking guide. With all new characters, all new portraits, and a new map this is like a whole new game. While we made progress on so many new DOAE concepts I never imagined I would play a mod this complete and different. This mod sets a new standard for what a DOAE mod can become.
Easily rise of leyasu, most innovative rom to date (but i'm sure flames of wu will top this!), as midknight said above, it really is like playing a brand new game because nothing is the same as the original and it really is amazing to see how far along we have come over the years.
I would easily have to vote for Rise Of Ieyasu for ROM of the year.
Right from the start of the game it had a completely different vibe with the rearranged map and difficulty, after playing alot of other mods this year I actually had to bust my ass to progress on Rise Of Ieyasu.
Not to mention the great portrait work, as from my understanding was done in part by MiDKnight (for portrait expansion enhancement) as well as Sonic.
And the overall clever usage of "Random" encounter boss fights which was featured really well in Rise Of Lu Bu as well, it was a little extra challenge in the right locations. I mean who would've expected bosses to fight you for a chest?
Bringing up the map modification again I also enjoyed the extra section of the game that included so many awesome cameos which allowed for creating the ultimate party for the final confrontations.
And if that set the bar for Sonic's work then I cant wait for what he does next.
Best Story line/Text Modifications: Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
Runner up: TIE: Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 – Rise of Lu Bu (by sonic penguin 2011-2012) and Yuan Shao's Revenge (by MiDKnighT 2010-2012)Rise of Ieyasu for Best Story line/Text Modifications. New characters, new portraits, new story. There is not a single character that I'm aware of that came from the original DOAE (besides chapter 9 but that's still different).
Best Map Modifications: Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
Runner up: Destiny of an Emperor 2.0: Rise of Lu Bu (by sonic penguin 2011-2012)The other category where Rise of Ieyasu absolutely must be nominated is for Best Map Modifications. There were so many times during this mod where I had no idea where I was on the original map and that's a great thing!
Right from the start of the game it had a completely different vibe with the rearranged map.
Bringing up the map modification again I also enjoyed the extra section of the game that included so many awesome cameos which allowed for creating the ultimate party for the final confrontations.
Best Difficulty Modifications: Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
Runner up: TIE: Destiny of an Emperor 2.0 (by James 2007-2008) and Destiny of an Emperor 2.0: Cao Cao Edition (by James 2007-2009)Right from the start of the game it had a completely different vibe with the rearranged map and difficulty, after playing a lot of other mods this year I actually had to bust my ass to progress on Rise Of Ieyasu.
I'll go for Difficulty Modification!
Best Portraits: Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
Runner up: Destiny of an Emperor 2.0: Rise of Lu Bu (by sonic penguin 2011-2012)Also nominating Rise of Ieyasu for Best Portraits for all the new characters & portraits. Totally new world + totally new characters + totally new portraits.
Not to mention the great portrait work, as from my understanding was done in part by MiDKnight (for expanded portrait code) as well as Sonic (for all the portrait designs and graphics).

Others have said, including myself, but I'll say it again – awesomely done on taking RoI away from a complex mod and turning it into virtually another game.

Contributing Author to the ROTK 2 Modthis mod really raises the bar and sets a new standard for mods.
The work you put into this is just mind boggling as I play it. I was apprehensive about playing this at first due to not knowing the characters and the earlier history of one hit kills :) But I was truly blown away. It seems like you used everything the ROM hacking guide had to offer to the fullest which is what the guide is for :)
But overall I want to say…
CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS FANTASTIC MOD!

Author of Yuan Shao Mod & DOAE Romhacking GuideYou really have put together a quality mod…. I'm very glad that I'm sticking with the mod, and am enjoying it a lot (I love the portraits! That in itself represents tons of work!)

Massive gameplay improvements over the original Destiny of an Emperor:
*Brand new story based off of the Sengoku Era of Japan.
*Multi-hits – based off of officer agility.
*Officer Agility Stats – now viewable in the status screen.
*New leveling schemes and level 52 now possible.
*TOTALLY NEW PORTRAITS, SPRITES, and COLORS all hand-drawn by myself! Sprites thanks to MiDKnighT and LYS for code!
*Tactic cost changes/New tactics and effects
*Steeds are much more valuable due to their attack enhancing effect.
*Entirely new bonus section of the game… can you conquer the Path of Heaven?BUGS! BUGS! BUGS! (gets out insecticide)
Although I have tested the game numerous times for bugs, it should be relatively bug free! Let me know if you find any by posting here. Thanks MiDKnighT for getting me a fix for those gold/level/crash bugs
Huo Hu gives this mod 5 out of 5 powders…

February 4, 2012 at 9:14 pm #41829Jiang WeiParticipantgold fixed itself after my 5th fight lvl is only thing of known glitches i know
anyway i just beat hide yoshi's troop and the northern garrison but i have no idea where to go from there
and is kotaro really suppose to get 10 hits on hanzo? i mean seriously
February 5, 2012 at 12:32 am #41830sonic.penguinModeratorhaha, yeah I emailed Ludmeister about that seemingly overwhelming hitting that sometimes occurs due to the multi-attack code that is now in place.
Although annoying, it does seem to occur rather randomly at times but has to do with the 'agility deduction' in the code which happens after each attack and doesnt reset until after battles. By the next turn though, the attacking officer will pretty much have lost all his agility and will barely be able to squeak out 1 hit.
It shouldn't happen very often though, but is rather surprising and almost laughable when it does :)
FYI, another fight should be right near a big castle… >_> You've probably already passed it up multiple times!
Im surprised you were still standing after 10 hits FTW!

February 5, 2012 at 3:53 pm #41833Stallion FuryParticipantYou did say that the mod works best with FCEUX 2.0+, but it seems that anything below that won't work AT ALL. I've tried loading the game with several different older versions of the emulator, and it refused to read the file as a game.
Some feedback:
1. Awesome job with the game so far, looks amazing from the moment the game turns on, with how you edited in all of the mini-biographies and the introducing text. Although at the final part of the intro, where it speaks of the Warring States, the line about "Sonic Penguin's recreation" seems a bit awkward lol. Maybe specifying what game it's a recreation of might be a bit more fluent. :p
2. Also, do you know if there might be a way you could change the title? Unless you're willing to keep Destiny of an Emperor there.
3. It should be "Yoshimoto, you are a true noble" (with the comma)
4. AND WHAAAAAAAT ANOTHER FREE LEVEL UP LOCATION IN LOU SANG!!!! Did you take out the old man in the Ji Zhou map? Or does this mean a potential Level 52…
5. Along with the Lou Sang free level up, which players will probably get with their second character interaction, the game stops playing music until the player exits the village. Any way you could possibly fix that?
6. I… uh, THINK I was supposed to go west to meet Uncle Sessai, who randomly attacked me after saying I shouldn't fight Nobunaga? I mean, I know a lot of people playing this know about the Sengoku Period, but as a game I feel like there should be a little bit more explaining at times about what's going on, maybe from the villagers even.
February 5, 2012 at 8:11 pm #41834sonic.penguinModeratorIve been waiting on MidKnighT to return from his AWOL status to be able to possibly change the title to "Destiny of a Shogun" or something like that hehe. No, I dont think there is a way to fix the music after a level up just like in the Ji Zhou house, sorry.
As far as the intro goes, I just threw that random text in there to get the game started for beta-testing purposes. Also, I actually needed the space in the text banks BECAUSE i actually used up all the text space due to all the expanded dialogue. Did you visit Sessai in the palace at the beginning and get the special gift? That explains more…
Yeah, I thought the random boss fight at the beginning would add a little more "surprise" to the game early on so it wouldnt be so much like the original. I can add more dialogue to those starting villages, but again, I actually ran out of text space in the rom and have to delete words from other people just to get that extra space, if that makes sense?
Once I think of a good intro line, I'll add that in, but for now I'll fix that Yoshimoto comma :) I'll be sure to post again when it is updated.
Also, I updated the top to FCE 2.1.5 , thanks for checking on that one
February 5, 2012 at 10:08 pm #41835Jiang WeiParticipanti need osaka now and what is with keiji and kenshin having more power/str/war then tedakatsu he is the best warrior of the sengoku era thus he should have the best str of all the officers though keiji might be a close second (i know cause i decided to check and see what you did with the officers using Doaeditor) though over all its a good game so far specially like how you put mitsuhide in place of Lu Bu for the give item and he joins fight
thoough that means he is gonna betray
February 5, 2012 at 10:55 pm #41836MeteorStrikeParticipantIs this a mod of Destiny of an Emperor 1? If so, you don't need MidNight to hack the intro title, assuming you are referring to the title graphics of "Destiny of an Emperor". You can easily edit the title using something like Tile Layer or Tile Layer Pro.
The start address of the screen title appears to be at 0xB810, but you shouldn't be hacking that with a hex editor. I recommend something like Tile Layer Pro, and then going to that address, and you should see the Title images.
Tile Layer Pro lets you edit the game tiles ( which -all- emulators call "Patterns" so I don't know why they didn't call it Pattern Layer Pro instead… meh… ) so you can use that to edit the game's graphics.

Shhh, dont give all the story points away…. ahh, never mind. Yes it was a difficult choice to lower Tadakatsu's STR down to 250 and make others a little higher. I mean, the god of war not 255? Anyways, since he was compared to Zhang Fei, and he had 250 I figured it'd be ok. Glad you're liking it so far :)

yeah I know, but I was hoping to mass import it via feidian.
BTW, is anyone testing the villager dialogue?
February 6, 2012 at 2:09 am #41838Stallion FuryParticipantI'm checking through every villager I meet. I believe I found someone claiming to be the creator of ROBL? :p
And yeah, the talk with Sessai kind of smoothed the plot up a bit, though I've yet to find out why exactly I'm fighting this Nobunaga guy lol.
And oh man, Hideyoshi is so hard to beat. ._. Partially because I apparently suck at this game lol. Looking forward to fighting No in the near future, she's a huge pain in the ass when met in a field battle.
February 6, 2012 at 2:37 am #41839sonic.penguinModeratorremember to use ramparts!
February 6, 2012 at 3:15 am #41840Stallion FuryParticipantFINALLY BEAT HIM YES
Man, the riflemen are so annoying. And so are Hideyoshi's ridiculous stats. I sure hope the battles get easier from here on…
February 6, 2012 at 9:00 pm #41841sonic.penguinModeratorActually, the rifle forces vary in troop count, did you notice? Keeping ramparts up reduces firearm damage by half so its a must to survive those early boss battles. The advanced heal should also help quite a bit as well, but just blowing through TP is not recommended.
I tried to make agility a more useful stat and a better balancer of characters. Generelly now there are 4 types of officers
1. High Str/HP with low int and speed.
2. Low Str/HP High INT and speed.
3. Med/low Str/HP/INT and High speed such as No or Hanzo
4. High everything.
There are those exceptions such as Ieyasu who has high STR and INT, but his speed is low to balance him throughout the game, much like Tadakatsu and his insanely high HP/Damage output compared w/ other officers.

I know it has to be 4 bit.
For example, injecting portrait strips via fedian works like:
php feidian.php -ci nes8,6,128,0×58810 filename.bmp Destiny of an Emperor; Rise of Ieyasu
Would have to know what to change some of those values to… Tile layer pro is just WAY too impossible in terms of time, clarity, and it always crashes for some reason…
I believe that the main portrait is also in two spots in the ROM ie: 90% of it is at one address, and the other 10% is at another.
BTW, Meteorstrike are you beta-testing as well? I have already enetered Stallion Fury and Jiang Wei in the credits for beta testers come the next release.
