ModeratorUnfortunately, that is all Doug says (at least at this point). You can become friends with several named people, but Doug is different.
Yeah, Opoona starts doing a little dance and changing expression if don’t do anything for a while. He’s pretty expressive considering his face is so simple.
It’s probably his bonbon.
Opoona has become very JRPGish suddenly. Up until a certain point there was a plot-thread to follow but there were half a dozen other things you could do on the side, but for the past few hours it’s been all on a rail.
Battles are much tougher than the usual RPG fare and it can be frustrating a lot of the time. I generally like a bit of a challenge, but when you lose in Opoona it’s because a fight is about impossible (I had to do one boss fight over about 5 times because there was no good place to grind).

ModeratorThis is an odd-looking RPG from Koei for the Wii.
It came out yesterday to little fanfare. I heard it didn’t really sell very well in Japan. It has a cel-shaded, stylistic feel to it and is supposed to have great music. From what I’ve read of reviews, it’s nice-looking, nice-sounding, and runs quickly, but has camera control issues…
Considering Koei’s RPG track record (Inindo) I didn’t give it much thought, but it sounds like it’s a neat game. At $50 I’m not sure if I’m willing, though.
Anyone tried this yet?

ParticipantInindo is sweet dude.

ParticipantIt looks a little on the childish side, yet very interesting…

ParticipantIt’s for the Wii, of course it’ll look childish.

ModeratorInindo is grindy. By the time I was able to actually accept jobs from daimyo, I didn’t particularly want to play anymore ;) and the battles run so slowly…
It has several features I wish other RPGs would add, but it’s hard to get into as a whole.

ModeratorI mentioned Koei’s RPG track record :P

ParticipantOh…well, the game was made by KOEI, and also you’re obviously a hardcore rpg gamer, and from the video I put the game does look nice, so go ahead I say, or if not rent it at least (if it’s possible with wii games).

Keymasterhaha….the faces the 3 foot dude makes during dialogue remind me of the emoticons to the left.

Yeah it’s pretty funny how he’s smiling when he gets off the elevator and then when he runs he suddenly puts on a mad face.

ModeratorI picked up this game today and I may be hooked.
The music is very ambient, sort of spacey but quite light-feeling. It’s definitely the best quality of the game so far but the fact that I can comment on it immediately after playing only an hour should say a lot. If there is no soundtrack for this game, I’m going to have to download a rip someplace.
It gives off a true futuristic feeling so far. Not many games do that nowadays – a lot more go for a pseudo-fantasy-future with swords, magic and castles alongside plasma-firing ships. Opoona’s atmosphere is a bit like Phantasy Star 2 in that normal, law-abiding people hide in domes from ferocious monsters.
It looks like it will probably have some of the social aspect of Persona 3 too, though I doubt the characters will be as detailed.
Though Opoona himself is very cutesy kid-looking, it’s because he’s not human (he’s from an ancient, unnecessarily-cute race of evil-crushing holy power). Most people I’ve seen so far are human and look vaguely anime-ish normal. It looks pretty good so far.

Keymasterhaha awesome man…so how far did you have to go out of your way to find it?
How’s the battle system gameplay so far? Probably haven’t fought much I suppose…KOEI games tend to have underrated sound / music so I’m not surprised by that.

ModeratorBattle system is neat, but I don’t know how well it will hold up with multiple party members. It’s fast (2 minute time limit on all battles).
/edit: To find it I just checked at the second gamestop ;) it’s easy, since I live really close to two GSes. I’m not a huge fan of the company, but one of the stores used to be an EBGames and is still pretty cool.
Screenshots!

The game unfortunately looks far better in motion, but this should give some idea.
Also, this is the first game I’ve seen that has an art-gallery in game! Some nifty 3-d art stuff.
(I don’t count Suikoden V since that town was an abomination against humanity)

Keymaster2 minute time limit? Does the battle just end with no one the victor?
That second one is some cool scenery, and that guy looks funny looking off into the distance. And pic 1, that Landrollan guy looks pretty smart
I don’t remember that Suikoden V town either for some reason…
