ParticipantCurrently, I just released the Factory from the Siren’s song by reuniting her with her lover, and I’m about to reenter The Center because they just called out that one guy. I really hope I can go in there and kick some Mesian asses. I mean, what the fuck, they just forget about the main character so that he’s forced to act against them to progress the story.
I’m going to be like all "You know, I had no problem with the genocide, slavery, and entire destruction of cities, but the fact that you completely just forgot about my existence really pisses me the fuck off"
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

ParticipantStarted playing this last night and it was fairly satisfying. It reminds me quite a bit of Persona, well, from what little I saw of Persona anyways.

ParticipantPersona 1 is a horrible game
I have actually never played SMT, despite my love for the series! although I have played SMT2 which is very, very ballin’

ParticipantSMT is a pretty tough old-school game, but it’s fun. You might want to watch out for bugs though, there are a couple in the first one. SMT2 is pretty bug-free I believe.
Persona 1 is a special case. They really messed around with the American release for it. You know how 4Kids changes the anime they work on? Yeah, it’s like that. The biggest changes I read about were changing one character into a black guy and cutting out a large sidequest.

Participantthe black kid was fuckin’ ballin’
although they did fuck with it quite a bit

ModeratorI loved and still love Persona 1, partly because of their weird changes.
Another of the notable changes is that the game is considerably easier and less grind-heavy than the original in Japan.
Me playing the game used to involve playing for 10 hours, realizing I didn’t want to grind to make the next area possible, then stopping. Last year I tried going without grinding at all… the final boss is possible at a really low level (IIRC, 10 levels below the minimum the only FAQ recommends) if you have the right move and you luck-sack into it like me :)
Man, I love the game. I like the music, I like the characters (even if they were bastardized) and the atmosphere. I find the game frustrating as hell, but I love it anyways. Maybe I just like pain.

Participantwell, I did play Persona 2 before Persona so maybe it’s just me going "LOL THIS IS SUX :plays persona 2:"

Moderator:P I can’t get into Persona 2 because it’s ridiculously hard and there’s no point to using regular attacks… whereas in P1, guns rocked the house against lots of enemies.
I should try P2 again, but the contact system seemed unnecessarily complex. Where in P1 you had lots of commands, but you only needed to succeed against two enemies to make a persona (2 spell cards -> 1 persona), in P2 IIRC you had to get a certain number of each type of spell card… but there are a lot less commands so maybe it evens out.

ParticipantI’d like to try the Persona again, my sister actually owned it and traded it in years ago (like her other ballin gaymes such as Thousand Arms).
Still, this games is pretty good. However, I think Wizardry did a better job with first-person mazes.

Participantnow that you’ve also tried SMT2, do you acknowledge its superiority?
also Elohim is one of the bosses in 2 (and maybe 1?), which alone makes SMT an incredible series

ParticipantYes, Elohim is ballib.
SMT2 has obvious superiority, it just has a much more powerful "next gen" feel to it, looks cleaner and plays smoother.

ParticipantMan, this game gets better and better. Last time I played an RPG like this was when I discovered Destiny of an Emperor.
I don’t even use the demons that much, but I’ve been getting by pretty well.

ParticipantHow far are you now?

ParticipantI have to collect some dude’s body parts, I already have all of his arms and legs, but I don’t really know what to do now.

ParticipantOh, you’re just the Main Character, nobody in the game really cares who you are… except maybe the Female Main Character.
