ParticipantNow I’m a huge fan of brawlers and grew up with games like TMNT, Double Dragon, Final Fight, etc. But I can’t stand the DW games. They’re just so damn boring and repetitive. The games listed above can be finished within an hour or less, but in DW, that’s how long it takes to finish a battle. The game has serious balance issues with length.
Let’s forget the fact that Koei’s not a maker of action packed games. Let’s look at it’s other main attraction, the ROTK franchise. I mean, the only reason I ever even thought about trying these games out is so I can play as my favorite ROTK characters. So what do we get? Tons of lame ass rejects and bad character designs. Outside of the 5 Tigers, virtually no one is actually from the 3 Kingdoms. Unless you mean Arthur from Ghost and Goblins was in 3 Kingdoms. If you had a Dian Wei Vs Cao Pi battle going on screen, I wouldn’t have known this game was based on 3 Kingdoms. Hell, I’d be willing to withstand the game’s repetitiveness if I could actually play as some REAL 3 Kingdoms characters.
So, why do people play this game series? I’m very curious cause for me, there is no reason to play it.

ParticipantI think the soundtrack is probably the only thing I really like about it. I only possess one, and the only characters I really played were Liu Bei and Pang Tong.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

ParticipantI really enjoyed DW2 and 3 for a while, But good lord they are getting out of hand with these games. ROTK and Kessen are the only games KOEI needs to make anymore.

ParticipantIt’s not really about the ROTK aspect for me. It’s just sometimes you get tired of thinking too much with these games, and you just want to beat the crap out of a lot of enemies now and then. Of course, I only have DW3 and DW3:XL so I don’t know if the others are any good.
Was it KOEI or Omega Force that was in charge of character design for the series? Because it seems like the characters mostly look a lot different here than in other ROTK media.

KeymasterWell I’m a big fan of DW3 (and 4 to a lesser extent). It can be boring but on the hardest difficulty I usually find myself challenged on the later boards (both fighting and strategically), and I have a crackhead tendency to want to max out every character in every game I play, which takes hundreds of hours for a DW game to go through each musou, get each special weapon / item, etc.
That said, they’re running that series into the ground with expansions that don’t really add much. DW3 is still a top 5 game for me but everything after that (including 4 and 5) are expansions. I’m looking forward to what they do with it on the new systems….It’s my belief that Koei is sucking the money out of it’s market that it built from DW3’s great sales, and now they’re realizing they have a disgruntled customer base and they know they have to put up with DW6.

ParticipantTrue that lordyuan. 3 was good, and 2 was he original, but after that it was just a waste of money. And they have made it even worse with Samurai warriors another series of remakes that isn’t bringing anything new to the market.

ParticipantTo answer the original question: Mindless killing.
I mean, get a good Musou bar, after you build your character, & find a batch of enemies that make the system groan & slowdown, then hit your musou!!
Ahhh…
They need more in depth stories. DW5Empires… finding stories kinda made it worthwhile, but I like a more straight on story line. I don’t think I will ever be satisfied.

ParticipantLately I have been seeing the dullness in DW. I’m just hoping DW6 can make me a huge fan again, like I was before. It’s exactly how TF says it. Now the only thing that keeps me hooked on the series is Cao Pi, and Cao Cao. Other than them – I can’t stand it as much.

ParticipantIt really rare to find the Dynasty Warriors games for purchase or rent in my town so thats probably what kept me into the series but recently i found warriors orochi so I bought it straight away its very different from the usual games but i like it.

ParticipantI just beat the storylines with one person from each empire. Once they’re done, I never play them again.

I do to, it becomes an obsession for me eventually, where i am playing so i can beat the game rather than for fun, scary.
However i always try to MAX out Cao Cao at least before i stop playing.

Cao Cao should always be MAXed out. Or at least have had fun with. I do this as well, I could never enjoy playing with characters I passed things with if I don’t use them much. It’s like a ”to do thing” in Koei games to me when it comes to the DW series.

ParticipantI usually have to complete all Shu officers. The others are done when I have spare time and I have finished Shu.
