Destiny of an Emperor II Avatar Championship
Everybody knows the Lord loves his avatars. Well, here is where I give you my top ten.
1. Lord Yuan Shu
Is it an improvement over Destiny of an Emperor 1? Well you can’t improve over the top spot. His ‘stache is as sharp as the blade he’ll cut you down with and really you’re only going to be able to fantasize about looking as sophisticated as the Lord so go think of something else before you get too depressed.
2. Sima Zhao
Such a cold look. I must say, part of the interest is with his personality in the game. He fits the arrogant and immature stench that you would expect from Sima Yi’s kid and his avatar suggests this attitude perfectly. Dogs of Liu Bei indeed, Sima Zhao!
3. Taishi Ci
Okay, the number one reason Taishi Ci is up here is that he isn’t a playable character nor is he one you fight but rather you see his avatar as he speaks a line or two and then you never see the picture again. Well, he has the horns like the first one, which is a plus. He doesn’t look like the monster he did in the first DoaE, but it seems the second DoaE added some features to make these characters look more, well, human.
4. Xu Zhu
The fact that Xu Zhu looks like he is screaming adds points to the board already. The helmet and shoulder structure is nice with the black fill in, and it does a good job of making Xu Zhu look like a stupid maniac who could kill you anytime he wanted, which is what he is.
5. Wen Chou
Seemingly very similar to Dian Wei in my mind (who consequently just missed the cut), his thick ‘stache and evil smile and evil eyes lead you to believe he’s tough. He really is, but the fact that Guan Yu ousts him after about 5 minutes of having him join you is quite hilarious.
6. Guan Suo
Again, another general who benefits from not being in the party too long, thus making their avatar more unique and tolerable over the long haul. Guan Suo is the definition of a value general in the game, with his 250 strength and solid other stats, and oh yeah his avatar is like a Shu-version of Xu Zhu.
7. Meng Da
What a maniac. Another one of my personal favorites, with a high speed because of his fat horse! He looks like a strange yet jolly type but worry not, he has a tough side to him.
8. Zhang Lu
Zhang Lu, a la the biggest glitch in DoaE history, is a classic general. Nothing beats the Zhang Lu vs. Zhang Lu matchup in Han Zhong. And get used to him if you recruit him, he’ll be on the top of your battle list for the rest of the game.
9. Zhou Yu
Like Taishi Ci, Zhou Yu is another Wu army general who doesn’t fight with you but shows his face in the ship battle versus Cao Cao. Now, if only they’d show Gan Ning, Zhang Hong, and the rest of their avatars right? Oh well, Zhou Yu doesn’t look like the consummate assassin that DoaE 1 veterans learned to appreciate, but rather a more accurate and pretty version of himself.
10. Liu Zheng
Now you want to talk about classic. Is it even fathomable to grow a ‘stache like that? It’s hung too perfectly. Now, this guy is a joke. Arrogant and outspoken too, but you won’t see him for long as the battle against him is quite easy.
Just missed the cut – Zhang Ren, Wu Yi, Dian Wei, Guan Xing, Shen Pei, Yuan Yin, Sima Shi.
