Moderator2012 Huo Hu Award Voting: ROM of the Year
Nominees:
Rise of Ieyasu (by sonic penguin 2012)
This is the most complete mod I've ever played using most of the enhancements and techniques from the ROM hacking guide. With all new characters, all new portraits, and a new map this is like a whole new game. While we made progress on so many new DOAE concepts I never imagined I would play a mod this complete and different. This mod sets a new standard for what a DOAE mod can become.
Easily rise of leyasu, most innovative rom to date (but i'm sure flames of wu will top this!), as midknight said above, it really is like playing a brand new game because nothing is the same as the original and it really is amazing to see how far along we have come over the years.
I would easily have to vote for Rise Of Ieyasu for ROM of the year.
Right from the start of the game it had a completely different vibe with the rearranged map and difficulty, after playing alot of other mods this year I actually had to bust my ass to progress on Rise Of Ieyasu.
Not to mention the great portrait work, as from my understanding was done in part by MiDKnight (for portrait expansion enhancement) as well as Sonic.
And the overall clever usage of "Random" encounter boss fights which was featured really well in Rise Of Lu Bu as well, it was a little extra challenge in the right locations. I mean who would've expected bosses to fight you for a chest?
Bringing up the map modification again I also enjoyed the extra section of the game that included so many awesome cameos which allowed for creating the ultimate party for the final confrontations.
And if that set the bar for Sonic's work then I cant wait for what he does next.
Destiny of an Emperor 2.0: Cao Cao Edition (by James 2007-2009)
This is the mod that got me into DoaE ROM hacking. Totally different story, different characters, increased difficulty, several new innovations at the time, easter eggs, and more. So this gets my nomination for the first annual rom of the year. Of course there are also other mods that I really enjoyed.
Well this derseves my recommendation, it was made in 2009 and still be good enough to be considered one of the best DoaE mods ever created. Play it and you'll know why.
Definitely has to be this for me (not really ROM of the year, but all the ROM's up until this point in DoaE hacking – end of 2011). DoaE 2.0 was fun, but kind of felt like a waste of time because it's the same story. But DoaE 2.0 Cao Cao edition helped set a template for building new roms with different forces, and made us consider different factors when building a mod. For example, there is a surplus of talented officers in Wei but the Wei mod is a clinic on making officers useful for a certain time (ie fixed soldier counts that last just long enough for the character to be useful). Combined with a brilliant story, hacking ahead of it's time, and the perfect difficulty balance, it is the clear winner for me. Doesn't hurt that of the three top forces, Wei is definitely at the top for me in terms of interest (Dian Wei, Jia Xu, Zhang He, etc are some of my favorites).
Yuan Shao's Revenge (by MiDKnighT 2010-2012)
For this year and years past, I'll cast my vote towards a mod that has inspired innovation and offshoots, so in case it is not evident yet, Yuan Shao's Revenge has laid the groundwork for a lot of other work. Kudos
I don't believe I've played enough mods to be able to make an informed decision on this category. Right now, the front runner is Yuan Shao's Revenge.

ModeratorEasy vote for me. Ieyasu devoured the ROM hacking guide and did more than I could have ever imagined.
