Since I haven’t seen anyone mentioning this, I will say it just in case it is new. All of the fire, water, and boulder tactics have geographic limitations. We cannot use any fire attacks when a battle takes place on bodies of water or lands near water. This is important to know if you fight Cai Mao or Xia Hou Dun at Xiang Yang.
Water tactics are self explanatory. You can use it only when you fight near or on bodies of water.
Boulder tactics are reserved for battles on mountain ranges, as well as cities and citadels near mountains.
April 24, 2006 at 3:43 am #18107Taishi CiParticipantI’d also point out that fire tactics can’t be used in the Saltpeter cave.
April 24, 2006 at 3:47 am #18108Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYeah I never understood the Xiang Yang thing. Where is the water? I know there is some running through the city, but still.
And yes that’s definitely something I need to clarify within the guides.

April 24, 2006 at 2:49 pm #18110SamuelParticipantBy the way, the geographic restrictions apply in fire, water, and doomsday scrolls.
I’ll post more in-depth analyses on formations and tactics in new topics later.
April 24, 2006 at 6:26 pm #18111Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterSamuel, I noticed in the cave to the east of Xu Zhou (where you fight Yuan Shu) that you can only use Lian Huo (fire spells). Is this true for each cave or does it vary depending on where it is located?
Guess I’ll find out soon enough anyway…

April 24, 2006 at 8:21 pm #18113Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYa I tried using that in the cave against Yuan Shu and it wouldn’t let me. Liu Mu, the boulder spell that is.

I don’t want to conclude that all caves do not allow boulder spells. For whatever reasons, the game makers do not consider caves to be in mountain ranges.
One exception is the water pathway between Chai Sang and Pang Tong’s residence. Since we navigate a vessel through a stream, we can use neither fire nor boulder spells (I tried it before). Only water tactics are allowed among the three.

I don’t suppose you know the locations of the ultimate weapons (other than Serpent Spear) ?
April 24, 2006 at 10:15 pm #18116Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterThat information is highly requested. Very vital information.

You can find some of them in chests in some Wei cities (e.g Tian Shui, Chen Cang, Lu). You can discover some of them by using the "check" command in a city, citadel, or gate. For example, the Thunder Axe is available at the Wu Zhang Gate. After you defeat Sima Yi and enter Wu Zhang, go down to the centre of the gate. Click "check" and the Thunder Axe is located around the area. I cannot remember the exact location. If you use the "check" command step by step, you can dig it up. But the Thunder Axe has almost no use to me, since I don’t use Wei Yan at that stage.
I have found the Fortune Shield in Chang An once, when I played the Chinese version. Use the "check" command frequently and often.
As for the others, you have to defeat the Wei generals during battles. When you win, they may drop one of these aformentioned weapons, armours, helmets, or shields to you. I have seen a list of who you have to beat in order to get what. But I can’t remember it now. Try your luck and find those Wei generals, conquer them and see what they drop for you. I got the QingGang and Heaven swords many times in the past.
So it boils down to two ways: defeat Wei generals, "check" the grounds of each city, gate, and citadel.
April 24, 2006 at 10:58 pm #18118Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHm…I too have got the Fortune Shield in Chang An along the eastern path and the Thunder Axe in Wu Zhang.
I don’t know about that battle theory. I fought in Wei from level 40 to level 99 and didn’t receive any of the special weapons. I was looking and there’s no way I could gain fifty-nine levels and not come across them.
My thoughts are that they are scattered randomly along the last few stretches of Wei. Where, I don’t know, but they must exist.

It happens so random that we cannot apply it once and for all. For example, if I defeat general X and get QingGang one time, I may not get QingGang next time when I fight him.
April 25, 2006 at 1:06 am #18120Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYeah if it’s a spoil from a battle, it’s definitely rare.
