ParticipantSo far I like DOE1 a little better, but that’s mostly due to my DOE2 rom being a bit glitchy (generals look like blobs of pixels during battle)
This sounds strange; where did you get your ROM from?
Here’s a quick summary of the other ROTK games we have on the site:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3: You probably know how this game works.
Destiny of an Emperor 3 (Genesis version): This is a fan-made game (made by "SKOB") for Genesis. The gameplay is very similar to the SNES-era Final Fantasy’s, but with a ROTK storyline. This game is only in Simplified Chinese, but I made a guide to help people play it.
Destiny of an Emperor 3 (SNES version): This is the real sequel made by CAPCOM. Unlike the first two, this one is a strategy game somewhat similar to the ROTK series. It’s not as complex though, although it is in Japanese. CommieCatgirl made some general tips for this game that you can look at on the main page.
Destiny of an Emperor (Gameboy edition): A Gameboy version of Destiny of an Emperor, although not the exact same story. It’s hard to figure out where to go in this one; I tried making a guide but got stuck at one point. Not a fan of this one myself, but you can try it.
Legends of Heroes: This is a tactical ROTK game, in the same genre as Fire Emblem, focusing on Liu Bei and Shu. A pretty fun game. We don’t have a complete guide for it here, but GameFAQs has one (search for Eiketsu Den).
Legends of Cao Cao: Same genre as Legends of Heroes, but with better graphics and gameplay. It also focuses on Cao Cao and Wei. I’m working on a guide for this one right now, and I definately recommend you give it a try.
Note that all of these games (except ROTK3) are in Chinese or Japanese, if that’s a problem, but we do have the guides if you need the help. You can also try patching the DOAE2 Japanese ROM in order to play as Wei or Wu; check the other thread for that one.

ParticipantThis search for the blood seal is driving me crazy!! I’m following the advice of lordyuanshu’s walkthrough, but I think I might be misinterpreting the second floor directions. I see 3 paths (west, center, east). I go to the east path (I’ve already gotten all the treasure) and follow it all the way up until I can’t go up anymore (I see an unopened chest on the other side of the wall that’s blocking me). Since the wall has closed behind me, I then go right and get 2 options: up (leads to dead end) and down. I follow the path going down, which curves around to the left and goes back to the start. I’ve now made one clockwise circle using the east path. Repeat 2 more times. I should now have the first condition satisfied ("take the east path 3 times"). Now I take the west path all the way up until I can’t go up anymore. Again, I can’t backtrack so I go all the way to the right, back down and around, and I’m back at the start. Problem: there is now a wall blocking me from accessing the west path to start my second lap. I don’t know if I’m taking the entirely wrong path, or if I’m missing something else. On the plus side, I’ve gained 7 levels so it’s not ALL bad.
Thanks in advance for any help!!

ParticipantIf I remember right, you don’t make any "laps" for this maze. The 3 east, 4 north stuff I think refers to the openings between the walls going north.
So, from where you start, you’d go east past three holes (I believe a chest is just east of this point), go up through that hole, go all the way to the left, then go north through four holes, then east to the stairs. That should get you out. I could be wrong though, haven’t played this part in a while.
Emperor Jing’s tomb is easily the most frustrating dungeon in the game.
Oh, and welcome to the forum! Have a good time, bring your friends, and try some of the other games we have guides for.

ParticipantIt worked!! Thank you very much!!! Man, was I all twisted around; figures it would be something simple like that. *slapping forehead*
Good to be here. I grew up playing the Romance series on NES (1), SNES (2), and PC (4&6), along with numerous other similar games that I’ll list some other time. KOEI and I were VERY good friends through high school. Just recently discovered the DOE games (love that emulators!!!). So far I like DOE1 a little better, but that’s mostly due to my DOE2 rom being a bit glitchy (generals look like blobs of pixels during battle); I’ve also played DOE1 longer too, and just became aware of the second one. It’s growing on me though, and I like some of the different features that it has.
