ParticipantI am in the planning process of another ROM. Here’s the premise.
Why play as one ruler when you can play as ALL of them? Yep, in this MOD, all of Liu Bei’s generals are replaced by the rulers of the Later Han. Every ruler joins together to defeat the Empress Himiko, who has appeared from Japan and in Orochi-style fashion (think Warriors Orochi), has made all of the powerful warlords serve her, as they are bent on the total destruction of China. While you still play as Liu Bei, you do NOT get to use Guan Yu and/or Zhang Fei. Who do you get to use? Look down.
Major Players in Destiny of an Emperor: The Himiko Takeover
Liu Bei
Cao Cao
Cao Pi
Sun Jian
Sun Ce
Empress Himiko
More stuff as I come across it. This edit is going to take me awhile. Entry level screenshots coming up soon :P

ParticipantAs promised…here are the beginning screenshots to water your appetite.

Why does Liu Bei get Ma Chao from the start? Well, he and Ma Teng are a package deal, sorta’ like Song Ren and Song Yong are. :P
Also, obviously…some boss changes. While the Yellow Turban area will remain the same, since they are freely serving the evil Empress Himiko…most things get changed. The warlords replacing the original bosses are from the Sengoku Period of Japan.

ParticipantHmm just wondering if we can have a nicer avatar for Cao Cao. :D I think he should look more handsome and charismatic, now he looks just like a normal high intelligence officer :(

ParticipantIf I could import Cao Cao’s DoaE2 avatar into the game, that would be splendid.
Let’s all find a way to import new photos into the game :)

Also, I have updated Cao Cao’s picture. Sometimes you gotta mix and match tops and bottoms (first 6 numbers in the hex and last 6 numbers in the hex)

Evil enough for you, Lu_Xun? :P

ModeratorIt’s quite possible to change graphics, although it’s not something I considered for DoaEd.
I would recommend using a program like Tile Layer Pro. If you open the ROM you’ll notice the smaller sprites for each character (i.e. Guan Yu carrying his little halberd). They’re divided into 4 tiles.
Just under those sprites and some of the hanzi sprites leftover from the translation, you’ll find the portraits in 6 sets of 6 tiles.
TLP has a "tile arranger" feature that will let you arrange, for example, Liu Bei’s full portrait. You can then edit the individual tiles and replace the rom.
So you could replace some lesser character’s unique portrait with one for Cao Cao or Sun Jian – it’d just take some effort.
Here’s what things look like in TLP:

By clicking and dragging the elements down to the arranger, I was able to get the whole picture and make a happy Liu Bei portrait. Looks kind of creepy, actually. On the left is a rather skeletal-looking Guan Yu sprite.

ParticipantHa, I love his DoaE2 pic. Sorry guys I’m a complete computer idiot when it comes to these stuff. Too technical for me. I hope my request for a nicer Cao Cao pic is not too demanding.
In any case, the overall gameplay and story is definitely more important. I’m looking forward!

Great work, I love it. I think I’ve used this Tile Layer program before to get all the avatars in doae 2…I thought it was Tile Molester actually but it looks similar.

ModeratorYeah, Tile Molester and Tile Layer Pro are fairly similar. There are a half-dozen or so programs that will do it.

ParticipantThat whole thing is way beyond my grasp :-p
If anyone’s willing, I can send them the finished product (when I’m done with all my edits) so that they can do some of the graphical edits *i.e. Cao Cao’s DoaE2 portrait*
I’ll be more than glad to give whoever is willing to do that front billing on the hack. "*Your name here* and Zhang Lu proudly present Destiny of an Emperor: The Himiko Factor"
