We already have enough people who sell out to browser makers; we don't need you to join in too! :tear:
July 3, 2009 at 1:34 am #36511tynanbeKeymasterDragonAtma, I put up the FireFox button, because I want the 40% of this site's users that still stick with Internet Explorer, to realize there are much better options. The site looks/works far better in non-IE browsers. What's your objection? :poison: We honestly don't even plan on getting anything back from the FF ad campaign, but if even 5-10% of LYS users switch away from IE, it's worth the pixel space.
July 3, 2009 at 4:28 pm #36512Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterhaha…see, it wasn't me DA.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 5, 2009 at 2:12 am #36513DragonAtmaModeratorAh, the standard "I'm a jerk so I'm be a pain in the tail to everyone who uses a different browser" situation that I've seen too many times. Well, guess what? I can be a jerk too — until that ad goes down, all of my visits to LYS will be in IE7 instead of FireFox!
July 6, 2009 at 3:19 am #36514NiahakModeratorIf you really wanted to be mean, you would use IE6 :)
Just from a development standpoint, IE has been terrible in the past. I know people who have literally had to do
if (browser == ie6)
{
(stuff specific to ie)
}
else
{
(stuff for browsers that follow standards)
}
Granted, I don't think sites should dictate "use this browser", but I see this ad being more like a nudge than a requirement :)
July 6, 2009 at 6:47 pm #36515DragonAtmaModeratorWell, I don't have IE6 on this PC…. although if I needed to I could probably find it!
July 7, 2009 at 2:13 pm #36516Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterMy favorite part about IE is when there was a huge security flaw a few months back…and despite admitting this bug is present, they still said "you should be using our browser, the security problems will be fixed soon". Or something to that effect.
But yea. We don't make any $ from people signing up for FireFox or anything. Like Junsui says it just benefits the site having more and more people view it in it's optimal form.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 14, 2009 at 9:57 pm #36518tynanbeKeymasterDragonAtma, I fail to see how putting up an ad to encourage the use of good internet browsers is being a jerk. If you don't want to use FireFox then I still think you should use Chrome, some other Mozilla-based browser, Safari, or even Opera. If you want to use IE7 nothing is gonna be broken, it just looks/degrades worse, and ultimately you're only hurting yourself, so I could care less. I've gone to far too great of lengths to make sure the site works in IE5.5+ Niahak is completely correct about what has to be done in anything past trivial CSS layouts.
Past that, I choose to support free, open-sourced projects like the ones that run this entire website. From what I've seen since starting to administrate websites, Internet Explorer is dying, and probably only still popular because it comes packaged with Windows OSes. With the advent of Google Chrome OS next year, it would be nice to see M$ just fade away, or at least change its business practices/models to better support its community/users/self by open-sourcing its projects. So again, I don't really care what you want to do, but I do care about providing the less-informed with awareness of their options :?
July 17, 2009 at 7:13 pm #36519DragonAtmaModeratorFirst of all, it looks fine to me in IE.
Second of all, I used to use FF for everything. But since Jinsuijin's a sellout (for shame!), I now use IE for LYS and FF for everything else.
July 17, 2009 at 11:28 pm #36520Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHe's lying. There's no way you open up a new browser just to look at LYS

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJuly 20, 2009 at 5:57 am #36521DragonAtmaModeratorClearly you don't udnerstand just HOW stubborn I can be. I even made an alkias in mirc that fries up ie by typing /ie
(also if you checked your logs, you'll see that I switched from using FF evrywhere to using IE for LYS when that sellout occured)
July 20, 2009 at 2:10 pm #36522Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYa, we don't care anymore DA. There are people that use IE and we optimize the site for them too. You might be doing the opposite but our reports show that the last few weeks since putting that FF ad up, we've had 2000 LYS users switch to FF from IE. So you switching to IE is a futile attempt at stopping our machine :P huohu Long live Huo Hu and Lord Yuan Shu – we run this damn place.

Once, long ago, I stood on the shore and shotued "No! No! No!" Eventually Alexander gave up and conquered east not west.
July 29, 2009 at 2:50 am #36524Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYou are but a pebble in the road to LYS's empire huohu
