MeteorStrike
ParticipantHello all.
I just finished uploading all of my new maps for Destiny of an Emperor 1. There isn't anything too interesting there, since all the hidden items and chests have already been known. Regardless, here is the link:
http://meteorstrike.000space.com/NES/Destiny_of_an_Emperor/Maps/
Also, I made a page with comparisons between the Destiny of an Emperor 1 and 2 maps:
http://meteorstrike.000space.com/NES/DOAE_Map_Comparisons.php
That's pretty much it. My remaining TODO list:
1 – Make the video I was going to make about the Map Generators.
2 – Post the details that MidNight wanted about the maps.
I will do #1 in about 2 weeks to coincide with the end of my current activation period, and then I will do #2 shortly thereafter.
EDIT: I had to go back and include the World Map Chapters in the table list because I had forgotten to do so after uploading all the files, but for some reason, the change is not being reflected on the site… I can see the change in the file if I go to Edit Mode, but I don't see it if I browse the page… Weird… I don't think there's anything I can do about that. Hopefully, this is some website caching issue and it will fix itself over time.
EDIT EDIT: OK, it looks like it's working now, so the caching issue has resolved itself and the link to the new World Map Chapters map file is now showing up. :) ( Which is really pretty much the same as the old World Map Chapters map file I had, except it's generated with the new Map Generator, so it has the copyright notice on the top right, but that's about it… )

ModeratorSo the big question is… what is possible now that you have all this?

ParticipantNot sure what you mean. I made the Map Generator just to… generate the maps… so, I guess "what is possible" is that now I have all the maps in the game? Other than that, I'm not sure what else you could mean by that.

ModeratorWasn't that available via DOAEditor though? I think Niahak did something with that kind of

ModeratorI did a map editor, but it doesn't include stuff like hidden items (and doesn't include towns – mostly because I don't have much info on them).
This has a lot more comprehensive information (hidden items, caves, towns, warps inside them, etc), but it's just information. Cool information, though :)

ParticipantYep, it's just information. I know just about everyone in this board is more interested in "hacking" than on the actual information, so I completely understand that my Map Generator and generated maps are probably not all that useful for you guys.
I generally only "hack" games to be able to write extractors / map generators and other such tools, so I don't have any interest in editors. ( Sorry Niahak! ^_^' ) But I figured it was worth posting about it, especially since it completes my maps project for the DOAE games.
Anyways, I will post the details of the maps formats, etc. at a later date, which should allow Niahak to add them to his editor, and -then- you guys can give me props ( and Niahak of course ) for something you guys actually find interesting! :p

ModeratorWell originally, I thought that the map generator was literally that… a map generator. In other words, it would essentially randomize a map and give you a whole new world without having to manually edit each tile!

ParticipantHah hah, no, when I said "generator" I meant that it generates maps ( particularly the png images ) based on the game data. I mean what good would be to "randomize" a map? Unless you were playing something like Chocobo's Dungeon, Azure Dreams, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, or other such random dungeon Rogue-style type of games, that wouldn't be very useful. :)

Moderatorthat actually reminds me of The Secret of Mana for PSX, I think somehow those maps were randomized somehow. Never really got into it.
Well, the randomizer would be neat except that yeah, it would totally goof up the plot and encounter areas
