I figured I’d burn through this one quick since it’s been out since 1998. Just to see how archaic it is, though at the same time impressive considering I was 14 when it was made.
They tried to include Dragon Warrior stuff. Mostly I see Dragon Warrior 3 terrain. The Magic Key door, treasures, bushes, etc. It’s a good try but because of the color palettes it ends up looking wonky.
Not many sprites were changed, though some were. Liu Bei became the Soldier class from Dragon Warrior 3. Zhang Fei became the hero in Dragon Warrior 1. Guan Yu became the random soldier-type you’d find around towns in Dragon Warrior 3. Other than that, they changed the guards sprite to be the guard in Dragon Warrior 1 (and in turn characters with that sprite like Xu Huang, Liang Gang, etc took on that sprite). Also they changed the female sprite that is sitting next to Tao Qian to the old man in Dragon Warrior 3 (though this sprite is only used at the beginning at Xu Zhou).
Dragon Destiny Save Room. This one actually looks cool..
Dragon Warrior 3 village image
Dragon Warrior 3 well. Looks decent but again the colors don’t match up well.
Dragon Destiny Wu Cave – the most fucked up part of the game. I had to pull out a map of the cave to get through since with the changes, you obviously can’t figure out where the hell you’re going :)
Dragon Destiny Oldie Fix 98
It is v. 0.12, so it being so incomplete isn’t surprising. They were ahead of their time though considering it was 1998. So you gotta give them that. Not much is changed after the first area, but I zoomed through it quick on speedup to make sure.
One key take-away from this though – the Dragon Destiny hack rom is EVERYWHERE on the internet. Probably a ton of people have played this incomplete hack. Leads me to believe we should send messages to all kinds of emulation sites in hopes of getting the awesome roms here listed on their site for more visibility (places like Zophar’s Domain would be a good start. Only Dragon Destiny and Ludmeister’s rom are here).

December 15, 2013 at 10:57 am #52757Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterNothing is changed with the story-line, text, or gameplay. Just some of the graphics. Funny to think they probably did this on like a Pentium 1 on a dial-up connection :huohu:
