Figure this stuff deserves its own topic, rather than random placement in other existing threads. That way it can, at least, be found later when someone wants it.

April 19, 2008 at 11:32 pm #29959NiahakModeratorTime to revive this topic. These are notes I’m taking while I’m looking at expanding DoaEditor (or writing an entirely separate program) to modify scripts.
Scripts!
Link to James’ .tbl and Text Calculator.
I’m currently looking into text right now, and it looks like lines may be able to be handled like officers.
Specifically, pointers for text seem to be in the areas:
28000-281F7 for the sub-pointers
28210-283F7 for the page pointers.
This indicates that there are ~487 lines in the script bank I’m currently looking at.
The scripts themselves are located in areas:
283F8-2BF1B. We’re looking at 15139 bytes of text… to handle that we’d need to see roughly a difference of 59 in the page addressing bytes. I’m seeing 0x83-0xBF, which is 60.
Looks like we may have a winner.
I’m creating a new DoaEd topic specifically for text editing now :)

May 25, 2008 at 5:11 am #29962Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantHere are a few discoveries:
1) When an officer is listed multiple times it is the final value that is actually used in the game.
2) Officers are automatically made available for recruiting after they are defeated in a battle. I added Li Ru to the Luoyang battle as an experiment. It was possible to recruit him after that battle even though he had yet to appear in Chang’an (1). If I had recruited him Chang’an would have failed gracefully and he simply wouldn’t have appeared there. This is something I plan to abuse later. Or each officer has a flag somewhere which determines what happens after you beat them in a castle battle. Li Ru’s flag could be that he becomes recruitable. I’ll find out more as I go along.
(1): As I am editing DoaE 2.0, Li Ru has already taken the place of Zhang Ji. So you can replace Zhang Ji for Li Ru in the above example and you will have the Destiny of an Emperor equivalent explanation.
3) There is nothing wrong with the coding behind the Luoyang gates in Dong Zhuo’s region. I found no explanation there as to why things were getting messed up. It is worth noting, though, that adding a second officer to one of those battles may solve things. Guo Si is supposed to appear at the first gate, Li Jue at the second under Xu Rong.
May 25, 2008 at 6:51 pm #29963Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantI finally got off my ass and created a Destiny of an Emperor Game Genie Cheat Codes page. Every time I needed the walk through walls code to test something I wound up spending twenty minutes or more looking for the damned thing on the internet. Now it is right there where it won’t be forgotten. If anyone knows of additional codes please let me know so I can include them.

Does it also put the Halberd up for sale?
Do you know how those codes work?
May 25, 2008 at 7:50 pm #29966Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantAdding Officers to Multiple Battles
So I got this clever idea… wouldn’t it be fun to make the Luoyang battle nasty by adding Li Ru to it? I know, sadistic. The game fails gracefully in terms of officers displaying in battle, just as Destiny of an Emperor 2 does. Li Ru is to appear in Chang’an and Luoyang, but if you recruit him after Luoyang he does not appear at Chang’an.
But there’s a problem…
It seems after you face an officer in one of these battles, perhaps because they are in a new slot, they are spawned as a recruitable character in the wild. So in the case above with Li Ru appearing at Luoyang and Chang’an, even though it is the same character reference Li Ru then spawns twice in the wild. In short, you can recruit Li Ru after Luoyang, fight Chang’an without Li Ru there, but then… recruit Li Ru in the wild again? WTF?
So we may not have quite as much freedom with this idea as we hoped. We can probably still have fun with officers who do not actually appear in battles. We can place them in battles now. Beating them will probably also make them recruitable. And idiots like Liu Shan can be converted into real officers, added to battles, and made recruitable. If you don’t want them to be recruitable you can probably toss them into region 0.

I just tested the code… doesn’t seem to work.
Are all the letters correct?
