ParticipantIn my quest to create the perfect Destiny of an Emperor section at Kongming?s Archives, I have been putting together a walkthrough as I slowly work my way through the game. Originally, it was only a text version (as I usually start with), but for kicks I wrote a script that converts it to HTML so I can write an HTML version to go along with it as I play the game. I liked it so much that I started adding little graphics and fun bits to make it cooler.

I just wanted to share it with everyone here. :)
Comments, feedback, information, and corrections are all more than welcome!
I have completed Chapters 1 and 2 (yes, the ?chapters? are a fictional creation, but they divide the game into logical sections). Chapter 3, which is the stretch of the game associated with Jingzhou and Zhuge Liang, is in progress. I may break it off, though, and take the point from fighting the Cai brothers up to Red Cliffs into a Red Wall chapter.
It had some Internet Explorer bugs, but they should be worked out now.

ParticipantIt’s so nice with cute little pictures and organized word things.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

I like the organized word things.

KeymasterYes those little pictures are brilliant. Good work James, I’m eager to see the guide in it’s entirety!

ParticipantI?m in the middle of the Red Cliffs battle right now. Thank heavens I?m finally killing something. I?ve been going through serious withdrawls. I?ve observed a few things in this game. First, random battles with Outlaw Forces and the like are far more useful in terms of value than they were in the original. They give good experience, and they are basically harmless. Second, wow, the battles have been easy. I tried to beat Wang Zhi (or whatever his name is?the guy at the pass that tries to burn Guan Yu in the inn). That has been the only very hard battle. Cai Mao was a little more challenging, but even then I?d consider that battle to be moderate in difficulty at best.
I suspect later in the game the battles get much harder?
It has been years since I have played, and I have forgotten far too much.

ParticipantI had problems at Chang Sha, Han Zhong pt. 2, Luo Castle, and Luoyang. The rest of the battles tend to be pretty easy.
The dungeons aren’t too tough either, except that Tomb in Shu…

KeymasterYeah Taishi is right. Dungeons aren’t really hard except for the Blood Seal cave in Han Zhong. Battles aren’t that bad although it’s sort of up to chance in Wei, especially those Luo / Shang Fang Valley battles.

ParticipantGuess I haven?t hit the real battles just yet.
Another thing I noticed is that there doesn?t seem to be hidden items much at all until later in the game. I found that Iron Sword early in the game, but aside from that everthing has been pretty bare. I guess people in some parts of china just aren?t as fond of leaving their precious swords and armor under trees or by wells.
Taishi Ci. Persona. Nice.

ParticipantSamuel’s "Check" list doesn’t have anything before Nanjun, so I’m guessing there’s not anything of worth beforehand.
Persona 2: EP is a good game.

ParticipantIt’s when you get in Shu mostly that things will get complicated!
EDIT: BTW, I’ve just looked at the DOAE2 main page on Kongming.net. It’s good, but I have a bug report. There are 4 images down the page. The one with the title screen on it has a bug. When you click on it, instead of showing the title screen, it shows the first sentence you see when you start the game…

That was intentional, but thank you for letting me know. In fact, you feeling it was a bug is a bit of a problem. I thought it might be neat to work in some animation instead of the boring old screenshots. One of these instances would have been linking to the opening introduction instead of the title menu. It will probably be less confusing if I start with the title menu before going into the introduction. What do you think?
Another idea I’ve considered is to create animations in the screenshots area. When you click on them to view them in the main menu, they animate. Another option I’ve considered is to make them animate in the screenshots page itself once you click on them. Who knows, might be fun. I think subtle animation is a little bit of fun. Heck, I had fun making the Chibi ship in the walkthrough animated. I thought of doing other things like making the clouds around Fuji move a little, or letting pink leaves fly past the Wa settlement graphic.

ParticipantOK, sorry for thinking it was a bug. Yes, in fact, it is a good idea to animate things in gif. It might be cood, I could try to make as many screenshots as possible and send them to you, like: how to get many Zheng’s letter, how to duplicate an item, what can you do with the Jiu-Swilling Souse, and many other things like that. AH, ULTIMATE HAPINESS!
EDIT: Anybody else had this problem on the walkthrough of Kongming.net?:

If yes, it might be the site, if not, I should consider re-downloading firefox.

ParticipantThat problem should, now, hopefully be fixed.

Thanks for the offer regarding screenshots. I?ve been taking quite a collection on my way through, though, and hopefully I should get all I need as I go along. I?ve already got around 500. If I miss anything important though, I?ll certainly ask here if there is anyone to help out. :)

[?] Under the Blood Seal route is a Smoke Bomb and a few paths under this is a Silver Pendant (I think it’s a pendant; it heals you I think). Now Suo Di out.
I?m going to call this thing the Silver Relic. Did you use it? Man, this thing is sexy. It is basically like an infinite-use Silver Elixir. You can use it in battle to heal a character 1000 points as often as you like, and it never runs out. I?m more excited about this goofy old thing than the Blood Seal.

ParticipantI am trying to duplicate the Zheng letter with no success. Are these directions accurate?
If both Chen Deng and Liu Bei have a full inventory when Zheng Xuan hands you his letter, he will ask you to drop something. After you do this, go to your other character (the one who doesn?t have a Zheng letter) and drop something else. Next, pass the Zheng Letter from the character that has one to the character who doesn?t, and the Zheng Letter should duplicate. If this happens, you know you have performed the trick properly.
I am using VitrualNES emulator if that make any difference.
