ParticipantI was thinking how I’ve been playing everyone’s DOAE mods lately (I have at least started ALL of them), and it’s reminding me how much I love DOAE 2- more than the great DOAE 1, in fact. Therefore, I was thinking about making a mod made to be more like 2, though I suppose this is a rather minor mod. The characters that appeared in DOAE 2 would have the the stats from 2, including the hidden agility stat. Therefore, Zhao Yun would now have 240 strength, 200 intelligence, and 180 agility, as opposed to his 245 strength, 216 intelligence, and more ho-hum seeming agility from DOAE 1. However, it can get a bit more fun as I attempt to make the characters who join up with you the same ones as did in DOAE 2, even giving them solider level-ups so you get all that choice you had in DOAE 2. I was thinking that perhaps these guys could all have very similar, if not the same, soldier counts to reflect the much closer soldier counts they all had in 2. Finally, for the OCD nuts like me, I would maybe give Li Ru, the guy you can get pretty early with 18 strength and 200 inteligence, 220ish intelligence so that him being in your party will get you the level 12 Fu Bing tp increase at levelup (Liu Bei will now only have 200 intelligence rather than 225, after all). I remember playing these mods and not being able to get every levelup tp gain- it drove me nuts (getting 160 tp is FUN guys HEHE). So, what do you all think? Would anyone even be down to play this?

KeymasterInteresting idea Craig. So you’re thinking like Lu Zhao and Zhu Ling take over Song Yong and Song Ren so they can join you right away?

ParticipantYes! That is a capital idea. Also, doesn’t Si Ma Yi have An Sha in 2? IF he does, then maybe I should lower his intelligence to 235 (I think below 240 is An Sha and if I remember right, all the stats in DOAE 2 ended in a 0 or 5, so 235 would be the highest I can give him to allow An Sha) Then again, maybe he should just keep Bei Ji so he can rip through your party with buffed up Shui Longs. Also, I wonder if I should make Guan Xing or Guan Suo join after Guan Yu. I’m thinking Guan Suo with his 250 strength is maybe the way to go, Then, I could have Guan Yu instead of Guan Suo give you the counter technique for Si Ma Yi’s Thunder Tactic. I also wanted to remind everyone that Zhang Bao may be a liability again for you since he will be back to that paltry 90 intelligence, so you may want to skip over him like in 2. I was just thinking about one my fave characters, the old tiger Huang Zhong; he has only 220 intelligence in 2, but this was debatably made up for by him being the only one to wield bows. In DOAE 1, however, all characters wield the same weapons so he would no longer have any potential edge or special appeal like in 2. Perhaps his strength should stay comparable to the other tiger generals? Also, if there was a way I could give 5 of an ultimate weapon with the same strength so that all characters had evenly powered weapons like in 2, that would be nice. 5 Halberds sure would rock, but if more challenge was desired by you guys, I could always just give 5 of one of the 240 strength swords. Hmm, I wonder what exactly I’m getting myself into here. I may need help somewhere along the way, but I’m starting to really feel this bad boy HAS to happen :). Please — comments, suggestions, sexy hints are all strongly encouraged.

Participantyou might have difficulties copying guan yu leaving…

ParticipantForget copying Guan Yu and making him leave and join, that seems like too much. This is mostly to change the stats of existing characters to be like my favorite of the two DOAE’s, DOAE 2. This must happen. Somehow, somewhere. I guess I’d better get started soon.

ParticipantHey, no one is showing any interest! Damn you all! Kidding, of course, but anyways, I was messing around with Destiny of an Editor when it occurred to me that I don’t really know how to use it. Would anyone be so kind as to work with me and show me the ropes so that maybe one day this hack can become more than just a wet dream? My AIM is babyfacecraig85, my MSN is craigcougar@msn.com, my yahoo is CraigLovesNintendo, and my shoe size is roughly 8.5. Whoops, TMI!

ModeratorCraig,
What problems are you having exactly?
General procedure is:
1) Load a valid DoaE ROM.
2) Click on an officer’s name.
3) Change that officer’s stats and name as desired.
4) Click "Save" to save changes to that officer.
5) Repeat 2-4 for each officer you want to change. There is no error accounting for using *too much* space – generally I would say it would lead to Very Bad Things. However, it does tell you how much space is left.
6) When you’re ready to save the new ROM, click file->Export to ROM. I recommend saving it in a new file and testing, just in case it still isn’t all working.

ParticipantWell golly gee! I’ve started work on my mod, and boy is it fun. Now I need to figure out exactly how to divide the chapters- it’s not like I know how to change text or do anything outside of editing officers, but I need to figure out which officers go in which section. The first portion of the game was a no-brainer- I replaced the three Yellow Turban leaders with Yuan Shao in for Zhang Jao (the leader and most balanced of the three), Yuan Yin in for Zhang Bao (the tactician), and Ji Ling in for Zhang Liang (the dumb brute). In keeping with DOAE2, they all have their DOAE2 stats, so right at the beginning you get to feel some physical pain with the sting of Yuan Shu’s 50 attack power (I’m keeping the original attack and defense stats all the same as DOAE 1) coupled with his 190 strength. As for the guys who join them, I guess I can randomly pick from the Yuan Shu cronies in DOAE2. Ok, so that’s scenario 1. Next, I have to figure out who replaces the Dong Zhuo gang for that part (maybe Yuan Shao? I know you don’t fight him in DOAE2, but it’s a fun way to include Yan Liang and Wen Chou with their beefy DOAE2 stats). Ah. Feel free to leave suggestions please. This will definitely take a while as I plan to replay DOAE2 to help me match up the sprites and portraits as best as I can to duplicate the DOAE2 look for everyone (yeah I know it’s obsessive, but I’m working on a quality mod here!). Ok, once again, ideas please ;).
P.S.
1) I was considering just leaving Lu Bu where he normally is.
2) I am a fan of that old tiger Huang Zhong (I just think he’s cool), and his 220 strength in DOAE2 wouldn’t translate fairly to DOAE1 since the bows aren’t exclusive to him anymore, nor are they as powerful in DOAE1 (landing both attacks with the bow often gave him a stronger attack than basically any other general, and a miss only resulted in 50% damage as opposed to NO damage). Therefore, I have decided to give him 245 strength. I think it more accurately reflects his true DOAE power, and I feel it was fair because I still held on from giving him the 255 strength I think he kind of deserves (Then he would just be too awesome). Hey, Guan Suo is still stronger with 250 strength. You don’t like my decision? You do? I look forward to your feedback and am willing to negotiate.
3) As with DOAE2, you will fight Cao Cao more than once (hmm, maybe chapter two should start with some of his guys?). Replacing the Wu officers will be his men, with fighting him for a final time being the Wu finale. Naturally, Si Ma Yi and his goons still round out the game, but these last battles will reflect those of DOAE2. NO chapter will escape the DOAE2 treatment.
4) In DOAE2, Guan Suo replaces Guan Xing. Since I don’t know of a way to make Guan Xing leave the party, would it be alright if Guan Suo just joins in the place of Guan Xing?
5) Zhang Bao is back to his super lame 90 intelligence (down from DOAE1’s 150!). You may want to consider not picking him up, as some players (myself included) have chosen to do when playing DOAE2.
6) Jesus loves you.
