okay, but i gotta warn you: i have downloaded a lot of windows hex editors from zophar’s and none that i saw could change the code portion. what i could change was the portion of readable text on the right-hand portion.
the text was very readable word-for-word, but changing it caused problems. i’ll try and send an example of it sometime soon.
but no, i have not found any editor that can change the code like yours does… :mad:
I think you should be looking for a programmer’s hex editor rather than a ROM hacking hex editor. A typical programmer’s hex editor allows code insertion and overwrting. There’s a catch — from what I’ve seen, they don’t support text translation tables, so you are editing raw hexadecimal. I use two hex editors side-by-side, one to find the conversations I need to edit, and another to edit the actual conversations in hexadecimal.
I’m using Macintosh, so my programs aren’t available to you.

Yeah, I don’t mess around with the text visually anymore. I just use the translation table I completed (at the top) to find out where a conversation is, and edit manually from there.
I went to a download site (e.g. versiontracker, macupdate) and searched for ‘hex editor’. I proceeded to download every program that looked worthy of trying, tried it, and put together my own little platform for editing this ROM.
