ModeratorSo, here are two more things to consider:
(1) Cut down fire, water, and healing to six tactics:
* Fire, one target
* Fire, all targets
* Water, one target
* Water, all targets
* Healing, one ally
* Healing, all allies
Obviously, the six aren't fixed damage amounts; they should scale through the game, leaving a whopping 24 slots open for miscellaneous tactics.
(2) Let the strategist pick eight usable tactics from those he knows. Obviously, this would NOT be doable in battle.

Moderator#1 is pretty much exactly what I had in mind with the level based tactic damage. But actually leave it open to the modder to decide what to do with the fire/water/heal slots. They could add an agility based damage tactic, a strength based damage tactic, etc…
#2 is similar to what I was thinking about for "making officers" more unique. My idea was to have a map where you choose a general type. Something like 00=default, 01=warrior, 02=strategist, etc, etc…
Each "type" would have a list of tactics that they could use. They would not learn any tactics not on their list. So with 30 different tactics I'm thinking like 5 or 6 officer types would be cool to start with. With this kind of feature there would be no designated "tactician". Everyone would have their own tactics and you'd use a "tactician" in battle.

ModeratorWhat if you had a heal tactic (one target) that not only healed but cleared status effects (like Yi Xin, Li Jian). Something like Esuna in Final Fantasy. Ooohhhh :-)
August 2, 2012 at 4:40 am #44686DragonAtma
ModeratorEven so, it'd be nice to have both a target-one and a target-all.
As for general types, you may prefer to pick an unusual tactic — especially if we have 24 in the etc. category. At the same time, someone can decide that they don't want the fire or water tactics, opening up slots for more misc tactics.
Esuna equivalent is certainly doable.
Finally, it may make sense for tactic cost to be slightly affected by how good an officer is at the appropriate stat.

ParticipantIf there was an "Esuna" tactic I would expect the game to be VERY hard to compensate for that level of broken-ness!

ModeratorEsuna may fail.
It may also have a high TP cost.
And it may not necessarily heal, or it may heal for only half or so of what the healing tactic does…

In my mods I have cut down some tactics to allow for specific godly tactics which are only available to specific officers. IE; Rise of Lu Bu mod Lu Bu gets the "Destroy" tactic and Zhuge Liang/Sima Yi get the "Barrage" tactic. As long as modders arent limited to 4 different attacking tactics that changes could be made. I think that changing how healing tactics work would be neat as well if they leveled. A party heal and a single heal is about all you need as long as they leveled. That would free up 3 other healing tactics which would allow you a sort of "Esuna" skill. Granted, couldn't Negate just be modified to do the same thing?

And yes, the level based damage enhancement also works for heal tactics.

ModeratorQuote:And yes, the level based damage enhancement also works for heal tactics.Then some kind of status changes like Atma was mentioning earlier might be order such as an enhancement that ups attack and lowers defense for one person or vice versa. Dunno, gonna have to think about that one.

ModeratorUnless I change Life or Raise we'll have to keep "Salve" and "Revive" since the Life/Raise code calls those.
Maybe have 4 heal tactics with 1 spare tactic. We could use "Chi Xin" for something else (you'd learn a weaker "Salve" earlier on).
Actually we'd only need 3 heal tactics. We could combine the 2 that heal everybody and just give it a double INT boost so that someone like Zhu Ge Liang can use it like "Miracle".

ParticipantThe game seems to have a lot of duplicates in weapons, armor, and… well nearly every item seems to be duplicated. Also weapons and armors, aside from bows with their double strike are just boring.
Why not touch up the equipment system a bit to where it may not be beneficial to equip every new armor you get without checking its effects. I always imagined that with how basic the majority of the weapons and armor were (until you get the 5 Legendary swords) that you were basically equipping your Men with these, and not necessarily yourself.
For instance…
Dagger – Raises AGI by 50, the downside is of course their abysmal attack rating.
Flail – Raises STR by 10, lowers DP by 10.
Ax – Raises STR by 5, lowers AGI by 25
Club – Raises AGI by 25, increases DP by 15, lowers STR by 10
Spear – Raises STR, INT, AGI by 5.
Sabre – Raises STR, AGI by 10.
Trident – Raises INT by 15, increases DP by 10
Bow – Fine as is.
Sword – Nothing, a basic weapon.
Battleax – Raises STR by 50, Lowers INT by 200
Scimitar – Raises AGI by 30, Lowers STR by 10
Crossbow – Fine as is.
Lance – Raises STR, INT, AGI by 15.
This is just in the normal weapons. If it turns out that there's a way to utilize the copies of weapons and armor, you can make a complete set that is geared more towards strategists.

Moderator…this may be a crazy idea that is completely impossible to implement, but rumor has it there's a game where there are multiple families of weapons and every character can only use a specific family of weapons. :paranoid:
That said, you could use multiple families here; everyone can use any family, but using the office's preferred weapon type gives a damage boost.
Weapons 00-0F = swords
Weapons 10-1F = axes
Weapons 20-2F = ICBMs
Weapons 30-3F = spears
(etc.)
…you could also add a skill that gives someone the damage boost with EVERY weapon type…

This is really cool and very doable provided I had the space in the ROM. The only other problem is that not every modder wants to use the same weapons. So we'd have to have another "list" somewhere where modders could get creative with the bonuses.

ModeratorIt's gonna be Niahak-moddable, right? So it's not hard to make families for each weapon.
As for Str, Agi, and Int changes, althoguh Niahak cna surely make them change, keep in mind that we don't want them to be TOO big. With the above stats, giving Zhuge Liang a battleax leaves him at 55 int. For reference, Zhang Fei has 75 int (and, as such, would be ahead of him).
Similar, giving the battleaxe to joke officer Xiahou Mao (generally an all-around crappy officer and one of the ten worst officrs in a RoTK series game) pushes him up to a whopping 230 str.
