ModeratorJust working on photoshopping some portraits for in game use in DOAE. Do they have to be bitmap 4 bit? Anyways, there is a zip file included with all the pics as Im just getting practice with that slew of directions that are so hard to follow on editing portraits. I'm having trouble with PDP and how that all works/installs. Here are some examples of whats in the file.

ModeratorHey, it's nobunaga's ambition.
Also there's this:

Nobody showed interest in a sengoku mod, so feel free to use it.

ModeratorIt's actually 2 bits per pixel for DOAE portraits. The color you choose decides the 4 colors that are actually used in the portrait.

Moderatorahh, good stuff anyways though. I indexed the colors down to the four that are 'seen' in game, even though they need to be that bluish green to import into it. I've always liked the pics from Nobunaga's Ambition LOD and wondered why no one ever used those in a mod thus far.
I always felt DOAE2 portraits were a little too "cartoony"

KeymasterDragonAtma is our resident DoaE portrait expert.
Quote:I always felt DOAE2 portraits were a little too "cartoony"Some of the unique characters are good (Liu Zhang, Cao Cao and Yuan Shu come to mind), but there are too many with their mouths open. DoaE I had a more serious look that I too prefer.
DoaE II generic pictures are lame. Too many repeat faces…DoaE I had some too but did a better job. Also the varying background color in Destiny of an Emperor I was nice. White got boring in DoaE II.

ModeratorAll generic pictures have issues. For reference:

Eventually Koei went 100% uniques (for RoTK games, anyway; the Warriors games are even wors ewith generics than DoaE!), but this was before their decision.

KeymasterTrue. But we're comparing between companies here, with Capcom (DoaE) and Koei (RTK + DW).
I love all the 'sleeping' character portraits in RTK's.

ModeratorFine, fine…
The occasional DoaE2 generic is okay; just don't let them get out of hand! If nothing else, use one (1) of DoaE2's officer "generics" and one (1) of DoaE2's advisor "generics"; suddenly they're not generic anymore!
Speaking of generics, these are your friends:

…okay, all but the last are your friends…

Participant"I hate when I blink as someone is taking my picture." That's what I think of when I see those closed eye images.

ModeratorI've really got to sit down and learn how to use fedian and/or tile maker. I just can't seem to get the installation down

NO MORE! I've finally cracked the portrait limitation. I now have a double size DoaE ROM that supports up to 680 unique portraits. See: http://www.lordyuanshu.com/forums/topic/making-doae1-portraits-using-feidian/page/4
This was easily the toughest DoaE nut I've cracked. Feels good to finally crack it.
