All you have to do is grab a portrait which isn’t in the list.
Ol’ Gongli will do the rest! :D
Unfortunately, translating the game is a pain in the neck (especially for people like me who don’t speak japanese!)
They also went nuts on kanji encoding. Long story short, they stick two two quarters into each tile — one holds the top left and top right corners, the other holds the bottom left and bottom right corners. Here are three images of the exact same area, but with different palettes:
It took only half an hour to translate the first half of Cao Cao’s name, which is why Sisyphus will alternate between this and his boulder. >_>
…now, if only I could get unlazy enough to do some more work on my Jin Xuan DoaE mod…

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingI blame RotK2. I wanted a challenge, so I picked the weakest ruler in the game (Jin Xuan). I actually conquered about a third of the map (provinces 12-15, 29-36, and 39-41 — that’s traditional Shu plus Ma Chao’s greatest expanse plus a bit ofc western Wu), and then my save was lost. :(
Therefore, my current game is with Li Jue. I’ve got six provinces (12, 13, 29, 30, 32, 33), and I’m about to finish off Liu Zhang.

Change the viewing format.
View->Format->Game Boy
yield much more palatability :)
Then you see a quarter of a kanji (or kana) to a tile.
I like seeing more TK hacking projects. I can do spot-translations but I’m still nowhere near where I should be with regard to kanji, especially in TK games where kanji are everywhere.

Ah yes it’s hard to find a ruler in a more challenging position than Jin Xuan. I’d always do his 208 scenario in RotK 3 and it was hell being surrounded by Liu Zhang / Liu Bei and the other crappy rulers (Liu Du, Han Xuan, Zhao Fan).
A Destiny of an Emperor Jin Xuan would be cool, I like those Jing Zhou generals and it’d be fun to have Huang Zhong, Wei Yan, and pretty much nothing else to choose from (Xingdao Rong can be a good attacker I suppose)

It’s annoying when you have to edit a portrait (or simply view portraits) and have to set it at a width of twelve tiles…
As for DoaE officers, I’ll be concentratign mainly (but not exclusively) on officers from minor forces. The tigers, btw, will include one each from shu/wei/wu and two from minor kingdoms.
And yes, I have the perfect enemy for Wu Ling castle~
