I must admit that I still like Dragon Warrior 7 the best. The eight game is such a crushing disappointment to me when I found out how limited the character customization was.

Well, I prefer the Dragon Warrior's from the NES (mostly 3 + 4 the best).
7 was okay but just seemed a little slow to me. I only went through once and I'm pretty sure I didn't complete it. I do remember a ton of classes available at Dharma Temple. And if you maxed out regular classes you could combine them to form uber classes, right? Like Sage, Ranger, etc? I still have 7 for PSX and it says 'best selling PS1 console game in Japan". That's impressive…
Haven't played 8 so I can't say but it seems like the most mainstream Dragon Warrior (though IX is pretty mainstream, I even see commercials for it occasionally).
Game is starting to pick up for me, just finishing up the Gortress and I don't think there is much left. But I will get the Sage class soon so I'm looking forward to that.
