ModeratorNothing that great right now (aside from the usual Advance Wars and Phoenix Wright)… but there’s some nice stuff coming up:
Etrian Odyssey 2 (good if they learn from their mistakes)
FFIV
DQIV
lots more I hadn’t heard about. This post was inspired by one I saw at rh.net and I hadn’t heard about half these games.
World Destruction looks especially interesting, among those I just learned about :). Yasunori Mitsuda does great work, as long as they don’t drown out his music with too much over-the-top storytelling (see Xenosaga).
More RPGs would be great for the DS, since the PSP really has better ones so far.

ParticipantI love my DS. And I love the RPGs on it. :)
But then again, I’m a huge fan of the old-school remakes.

KeymasterI’ve been playing the DS for Final Fantasy V GBA. Haven’t really had a DS game I have absolutely had to have, but that will change with Final Fantasy IV in July and Dragon Quest IV whenever that comes. DQ V and VI should be good too if they come.
Anyone play The World Ends With You? Sounds like a unique game that asks a lot of the DS itself and the stylus. Lots of polarizing views about it and as a classic rPG gamer I’m not sure it would appeal to me. Looks like they did a nice job with the streets of Japan, seems like Jet Grind Radio a bit to me.
FF Crystal Chronicles looks bad imo with terrible dialogue and easy / short gameplay…

ModeratorI haven’t played The World Ends With You, though a coworker has been playing it. Combat sounds a bit confusing, since you fight with both the stylus and the d-pad at the same time.
I’m going to wait a bit, because right now it’s a "golden boy" on a few of the forums I visit – people are saying "this is awesome because it looks so different" and few of them have actually played it.
I did pick up Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer today, and I’ve played it a couple hours. It’s pretty neat, so far my favorite Roguelike (my previous favorite is ADOM).
The thing is, this game feels really freeform so far. I found a girl who had been blinded by monsters… unthinking, I threw a scroll of light (rather than an herb of light) at her, and she took damage :( I then tried to talk to her, but instead took a swing at her with my katana… and, er, I killed her. Whoops.

I don’t know… I thought it would suck, but it actually managed to suck me in. I’m actually near the end of the game right now and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. The storyline is really screwed up…
I thought it would be all kiddie when I started. And then…

ParticipantI will never play crystal chronicles ever again after the gamecube crap they pulled on me.

ParticipantI really wish my town had decent access to games. As it stands, the only true RPGs for DS that I have is Magical Starsign and Final Fantasy 3 (a new game, not the remake, unfortunately), and for pseudo-RPGs, it’s Rune Factory (a Harvest Moon style game with some RPG elements) and Pok

ParticipantTrue RPG’s are few today anyway, psp has quite a few though.

KeymasterPretty much just Brave Story right?
Good to hear Ring of Fates isn’t as bad as it looks. Actually though I thought the cover looks pretty cool.
