ParticipantI wonder if anybody played it recently. I find it being the hardest final fantasy of the series (as for now). The other downside is also the speed at which enemy strenght goes up. At the beginning, you have enemies with 6 HP, and just after that, you have enemies with more than 100! Also, even if your stats are: 9999HP/999MP/99 all other stats, The final boss will still find the way to deal over 6000 damages to one of your characters.
It isn’t the best game in terms of story, but there’s a way to find out that the kid in Deist is named Kain (Is it the same Kain as in FF4? He says he wants to become a dragoon). It’s also the first FF to have already prepared chars (in terms of name) even though in the original Famicom version, you had to imput a name, I decided to use the PS/GBA names.

One of the many bugs in the original version: Getting over 9999HP and over 999MP!
Now, discussion time.

ParticipantFF2j is actually the only FF I haven’t played for any great length of time. I’ve read that the battle system on the original Famicom version is kinda glitched and I’ve never been able to get the hang of it. I have the Dawn of Souls version so I might try and play that at some point.

ParticipantI admit that Dawn of soul is a bit better, since you don’t have to target specific targets (There’s the auto target from FF3 and up). THough it lacks the charm of thoses stats bugs (see above).
One thing for which I like FF2 Dawn of Souls, it’s because no stats can go down. In the original Famicon version, sometines your STR will go up, but your INT will go down…

ParticipantOH, almost forgot.
It’s actually much easier to augment stats in Dawn of Souls than in the original FF2j. Most of the time, especially at the beginning, you will almost always miss, which is cr*&.
I might think to make a small walkthrough of this game for the GBA, so I’ll have more than one contribution (Other than TNDOAE, which production has temporarily stopped, until I finally get inspiration).

ParticipantWell, good luck, especially if you’re playing the NES version, it’s DAMN long!
Edit: I’ve sent you two e-mails recently, about a profile problem, and lurkers, have you read them?

KeymasterHaven’t played this game in ages. I forgot you have to attack yourself to get low in HP to gain HP! Yeow, this is going to be a tough one…
What’s this battle glitch you talk about, Perhong? Are you talking about the ridiculous attack % or the leveling structure. I like the "Pwr up! Int down!"…they get so excited over losing intelligence!

KeymasterI see it…I was just wondering if the glitch was anything more than that. I don’t think going over 9999 and 999 will affect me for a while :)

ParticipantMy lord, I made two edits in your FAQ (Don’t know if that’s okay, so I put my additions in Italic), based on the knowledge I have from the game. Sorry if it’s misplaced, but I think it’s alright.

Keymasterhehe okay, i didnt notice those things at first. Well I think I’d prefer to just fix what I have that’s incorrect and mention the corrections made by you at the end…no offense, I’d just prefer the walkthrough’s in their final version to be clean of editing although I appreciate you correcting what i have wrong so far (I’m sure I’ve made my fair share overall anyway). Most walkthroughs do it that way and I’m planning on submitting all these new walkthroughs to gamefaqs and such eventually…but don’t worry, whichever mistakes you correct throughout the walkthrough (or any walkthrough for that matter) you’ll get credit for it at the end.
I knew Scott was Gordon’s bro by the way, hehe. That was just a name mixup there on my part. I kinda figured they were talking about Hilda but the translation must have been mixed up because it was never mentioned, he just mentioned the engagement ring right after he got done talking about gordon :).
Thanks for the comment about Firion, both about the translation and his skill set. I’ve left him just to attack pretty much and giving Guy secondary mage abilities basically (with Maria being the top mage). Is that the smartest way to go about it? Or should I get spells for all three of them and keep them all well rounded (well, with Guy / Firion being more fighters). I’ve been reading the top spells don’t even do that much though…like Flare and Ultima or whatever.

ParticipantSpells are mostly useful at the beginning of the game. Near the end, the only spells you’ll find useful will probably be:
Cure LV16 (Max)
Haste(High level)
Berserk(High Level)
Aura(High Level)
Esuna(That’s the name for heal in the newest versions)(LV16)
Warp LV16 (Huros much less than telepo, and it can also instantly kill enemies!)
Basuna(I think in ther old version it was named PEEP)(LV16 too)
At least, that’s about all the magics I found useful against the few last boss/Hard enemies. You can learn the three basics elements if you want, and only one person can have Ultima, but even at LV16, it’s not that good, unfortunately…
As for the credit instead of editing, I don’t mind at all!

ParticipantHummm… actually, at the part where Josef tries to stop the rock, he’s more than just overran, he dies… Anyway, I think the music changes to tell that he’s dead. (Man, too many people die in this game. Most are spoilerific, so I won’t tell.)

KeymasterYeah I knew he died but sometimes I like to be vague with my writing so that I don’t spoil story stuff.
I like that there is actually a story in this game, especially compared to 1. The fourth member thing is a little annoying having to buy weapons / armor for them each time but it reminds me of FF12 with the rotating guest member (which I did enjoy for the most part especially the infinite items part).
One thing I hate about this game is that they always dick around with the rows and I always have like sword fighters in the back and they can’t switch rows in battle and their attacks are then ineffective…I’ve died a few times because of this.
