Shitty Video aside…
I like this game, it’s a bit too easy though. However, it’s all around decent and boasts a damned good soundtrack.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

September 25, 2007 at 11:06 pm #24824NiahakModeratorMan, I love the music for this game. Tried replaying the game several months ago and I couldn’t get very far. Too repetitive. But I did enjoy the music ;)
September 25, 2007 at 11:08 pm #24825Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI love how you level up in this game – they have spots on the map that you can fight 10 random battles. I think in that way the leveling was kind of fixed so at times it was difficult. PS that review is awesome, I’ve seen it plenty of times.

Good game. Good memories.
It was easy, but it was also a lot of fun.
Final Fantasy for the lighthearted and the young.

I don’t think that really fixed the leveling system, because you could repeat dungeons and such. Though, the weakest thing in the game was that you didn’t have to purchase equipment or really go out of your way to get anything.

June 20, 2008 at 10:44 pm #24829Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea I don’t think this game is as bad as it’s reputation would lead you to believe. It was simple but there were some interesting battles and I love how the enemies change as they get closer to dying.

I have no bad memories of this game.
What was his name? Tristin?
June 21, 2008 at 1:52 pm #24831Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterlol I thought it was "Tristam" maybe I was wrong. The guy in the firey volcano area who attacks with a chain sickle right?

I need to play this game again, it’d be some fun emulated action.

I think a lot of people avoided it because they thought of it as a kiddy game. But that’s a shame, really, because it was a heck of a lot of fun.
June 23, 2008 at 2:53 am #24834NiahakModeratorDang it, you guys have got me playing FFMQ again between you :P
Tristam is awesome. He grabs the claw-thingy from the Sand dungeon, then (IIRC, haven’t gotten to this point in the game) later he says it’s "gotten boring" and gives it to you :)
FFMQ is a good argument for how simplicity can work. I remembered the battles being sort of slow, but compared to P3 (and nearly any PS2-era game for that matter) they run really fast.
Actually, this game is very reminiscent in style of Final Fantasy Legend 3 (random boss battle youtube link).
FFL3 also contained the "jump" mechanic in maps, and the games share a composer (Ryuji Sasai). In addition FFL3 had "guests" similar to the second character of FFMQ. Cool games, both.
June 23, 2008 at 3:02 am #24835Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterhaha yea that treasure huntin Tristam. I thought he used the ball and chain but that is Reuben. Tristam’s ninja stars are even cooler…
I started this up a few days ago too when we started talking about it…just got Reuben and am in the Volcano. The game definitely has a kiddie vibe to it with the short dialogue but one thing I noticed between this Volcano and the Ice Pyramid, is that some of these main dungeons are long. And some of the bosses are damn hard, and thankfully there is the give up or keep trying aspect otherwise I would have been screwed at the Ice Pyramid.
Also I have been stumped a few times going through these dungeons so I’d hardly say the difficulty is novice level. At times it is close but there are enough challenging times.
