ParticipantA while back I bought Infinite Undiscovery and Tales of Vesperia. Those are literally the best RPG games I have ever played this generation so far. I do believe IU, while it could’ve been better/polished off more, contains 10 years of ideas.
And I see more great releases coming, like Valkyria Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles, Dark Cloud 3, The Last Remnant, FFXIII, FF Versus XIII, Star Ocean 4, and much more.

ModeratorI’ve heard good things about Infinite Undiscovery. Not much about Tales of Vesperia.
Have you played the other Tales games, Hua? The Tales of Symphonia sequel is coming out in a month or so (I’m playing the first game through for my first time, but two of my good friends have played it dozens of times).
Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight Story look good. I haven’t heard enough about the rest to say I’m too interested – FFXIII looks too much like XII for me to get excited about it, and I didn’t really like Star Ocean 3.

KeymasterYea Valkryia Chronicles sounds really good. RPG of the year candidate according to one of my good friends who’s opinion I trust. Not sure how much I’d be interested in the other ones unless I found them cheap, other than FFXIII because of it’s inevitable popularity I’ll have to get and put up on lys.com…But yea I think you’re onto something Hua, this generation specifically PS3 is starting to get some decent RPG’s. Xbox360 had some decent ones released earlier…

ModeratorYeah, I’ve heard good things about Lost Odyssey, and Eternal Sonata sounds decent if not great. The latter’s getting ported to PS3, though… at this point it sounds like a toss-up RPG wise.
I’m still waiting, but either is starting to look pretty good.

ParticipantWell, I bought a 360 a few days ago, and I got Infinite Undiscovery as well. I have to say I rather enjoy it, as it’s realtime battles and no random encouters, not to mention the ability to have characters in a second party during certain events fight along side you (and sometimes wind up showing you which direction you need to go in). And being able to create items depending on who was in your party was a nice touch as well.

ParticipantIndeed, as antlan says. One of the most unique RPG’s I’ve played in a while.
I have in fact played other Tales games on PS2 and DS, and I’m waiting for Dawn of the New World on Wii. It should be released in November 11. There’s even talk of a PS3 Tales game, though it’s only rumored.
Most RPG fans were pleased with Lost Odyssee. Not me, since I’m not the biggest RPG fan out there. I found it to be complete garbage.
Eternal Sonata was decent, but IU and ToV are far better in my opinion.
Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight Chronicles look awesome. I really look forward to them most of all.
The Last Remnant, FFXIII, and FF Versus XIII, it would be pretty difficult for Square Enix to screw up an RPG, and I’ve always loved their RPG titles, so I can’t overlook those games. And besides, I’m expecting something grand from Versus since if I’m not mistaken, the game is meant to take advantage of the PS3’s strengths.
I loved the Dark Cloud series, as well as many of Level 5’s other games, and they’re developing WKC at the moment, so Dark Cloud 3 and WKC have lots of potential.
Star Ocean 3 indeed wasn’t the greatest in the series. SO2 was amazing though. And with Square Enix and Tri Ace working on SO4, I see a game with great potential. And so far, I’m impressed with what I see.
There’re also handheld JRPG’s coming, notable ones being Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.
In the way of WRPG’s, I’m getting Fable 2 soon, and I’ll also be picking up Fallout 3 for the 360 since the 360 version has exclusive DLC.
Too many video games to buy, lol. I just hope I have the time for all of them.

ParticipantI bought Fable 2 yesterday, and so far I enjoy it.The Jobs, such as woodcutting and Blacksmithing are a nice break from delivery or item gather quests for money. That said, all jobs involve hitting a when your cursor is in the ‘sweet spot’ but it can be quite challenging once you get up there in the successive chains.

I’ve been thinking of getting tales of vesperia but I’ll wait till it drops price or something.Tales of Destiny 1,2 were both good games so hopefully it follows those lines.
I’ve only played both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon,in terms of next-gen rpgs and I thought they both sucked, but thats my opinion.

ModeratorI saw Fable 2 and Eternal Sonata over the past week (roommate has a 360). I’m more impressed with Eternal Sonata so far, but then when he was playing Fable 2 it was all a really boring looking dungeon crawl. I saw some of the social stuff and it looked interesting, but it’s hard to make "do whatever you want" the core feature of the game and still have a coherent plot.
Eternal Sonata looks really good, sounds really good (high-pitched VAs aside, but you can choose original vocals), and looks fast-paced if nothing else. I’ll probably play that, at least, sometime.

ParticipantI hope Fable 2 will be released on PC next year .
Is there anybody here to play Gears of War 2. I was impressived by this game , guess it will be granted title " Game of The Year " ?

ParticipantWell, you apparently can play after the story finishes, which is neat (still in the story myself), and having 4 Lesbian wives whom apparently, while sounding upset, will nonetheless engage in multi-partner sex with you, even if it is with a man or a whore. The whore is rather cheap too, seeing as she costs 10 gold a lay, and i make +7000 every 5 minutes with my real estate pay. And this is my Good and Pure play through, just think of all the evil things I’ll do in the Evil one! Shop or house too expensive? Kill the owner or Tenents a few times, which will also bring down the towns economy, making property and items cheaper.

ParticipantValkyria Chronicles got a 9.0 on IGN. Impressive start.
Gears of War 2 is a candidate for GOTY, but not for sure. The candidates are: GTA4, MGS4, Fable 2 (I think), Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, and LittleBigPlanet.

KeymasterFable 2 sounds like it has a shitload of bugs. Also I wouldn’t pay 60 dollars for such a short game. I think that’s why a lot of people liked Fable 1 because you could pick it up in the 8 dollar bin at Walmart. Good value if it was that much. Even with the extra stuff not related to the story you’re still looking at like 20-30 hours. And there are too many game breaking elements, like battling is too easy, it’s too easy to farm money, etc. Definitely not my style of game and it sounds terribly flawed too. I watched my friend play for a bit so I know all this stuff :)
Valkyria Chronicles really does sound like a revolutionary TRPG. Looking at the screens it looks like a shooter or something but it’s pretty standard TRPG-fare.

ParticipantIt is a good game nonetheless, but with all the hype it recieved, I was expecting something revolutionary. Peter Molyneux talks too much. He said that LittleBigPlanet will be a defining game for the PS3 while the 360’s defining game would be Fable 2. LBP sure did deliver, for it is THE best game I’ve played this generation. Fable 2…not so much, though it is a good game.
Yeah it looks like Valkyria Chronicles=Infinite Undiscovery of the PS3, though Valkyria Chronicles was pulled off better.
November 3, 2008 at 4:06 pm #36049antlan87
ParticipantIs Valkyria Chronicles a PS3 exclusive, or are there chances of it coming to 360? If not, then FUCKKKK!!!!
